Chapter Eight
Emma found Suzie in the kitchen preparing canapés, wearing her uniform of short, flared skirt and low-cut blouse. Suzie soon had her setting out glasses and opening wine bottles. The guests were to be served not cocktails exactly, but white and red wine or soft drinks.
Despite Master’s words Emma grew increasingly nervous as the time of the party arrived. Under Suzie’s instruction she poured wine into some glasses on a tray and was told to take them into the library and offer them to the guests. As she approached she could hear the murmur of voices.
