Chapter 24Obviously, that was the point Sylvia and Lucy arrived home. Walter heard the back door bang shut and their indistinct voices in the kitchen.
He exchanged a look with Simon. If he was going to pass out, now would be a good time he supposed, but he thought he was past it and could keep himself upright. He lumbered to his feet and extended a hand to Simon, who took it and got up, but didn’t put any weight on him.
“Sit,” Simon said, taking control firmly, pushing him down into one of the upright chairs near the desk. “Sit your arse down there and let me look at that arm. Take your shirt off.”
Walter sat. It was rather nice not to have to make any decisions for a bit.
“That was a bit dicey there for a minute,” he said, aloud. “You turned up at just the right time.”
