The weeks passed slowly and throughout them, Bethany heard nothing from either Michael Rempart or his father. She guessed the haughty housekeeper she’d given her heartfelt letter to hadn’t given it to the father, or the father hadn’t passed it on to his son, or Michael Rempart was an ass who hadn’t thought she was important enough to answer.
Well, she wasn’t one to give up. She still couldn’t locate Rachel, and her parents were growing increasingly irritated at her for not “settling down” with some fellow or deciding what to do as a career. Instead she continued to work part-time at the University library, a job she kept by continuing to take a single class each semester to maintain her student status.
