Once again, I’ve forgotten my duty. I got so caught up in the conversation with Bree, and in the unfamiliar feelings she stirs up in me, that I forgot to keep an eye on my surroundings. What the hell is wrong with me? Carter was understanding when I left him behind at the party, but if my distraction now means that any harm comes to Bree, I will never forgive myself.
A quick glance out the back window confirms there is a car behind us, and switching the scrambler off on my phone, I answer the driver. “How long have they been behind us?”
