“How deep is your love? Is it like the ocean?”
Instantly when he asks that question I feel my heart stop. I feel a mix of emotions mostly surprise and love. I don’t think I should be feeling that though.
He pushes back his unruly hair and looks at me with hope in his eyes as I close my mouth and try to have a normal face.
“Sure.” I say in a squeaky voice and I flinch. The unfairness of it all. Do I have to humiliate myself in front of the person whom I have had feelings for? I can feel his smirk penetrate through my skull.
“It’s not like you’re that pretty or someone would have asked you out already.” Colton jokes and I shake my head.
“And I’m sure no other smart girl would go with you.” I tease back. I eat my Chipotle Chicken Wrap and I feel something warm press onto my hand. I look up skeptically to find Colton’s hand on mine. If he was looking at me right, he would notice me resembling to a beetroot.
We spend the rest of the evening in light conversation. When I reach home, I notice myself feeling dreamy and light-headed.
I see terrifying blue eyes and the ocean in my dream which is not usual. I have many dresses to choose from in my closet but I don’t know which one would be perfect so I feel panicky in the morning.
In the rush of being late again, when I pick Skylar up I can see how angry she is.
“I’m so sorry, I took way too long in the shower.” I apologize quickly before she starts her lecture again. She calms down.
“Why were you freaking out on the phone in the morning when you called?” Skylar asks while eating a sandwich.
“So basically last night Colton asked me out on the dance. The only problem is I have nothing to wear, and there is no time for going shopping. I think I’ll have a mental breakdown.” I answer speedily and stop my car on the red light.
“No way! I’m so damn happy for you!” Skylar screeches and I laugh. I feel something strange in my stomach as if something bad is about to happen.
“Yeah, but now the only problem is what will I wear because I obviously can’t go naked.” I mumble and drive straight.
“If you went naked, I swear to god he’ll go mad over you! And chill, don’t worry I’ll help you with your clothes.” She reassures me while putting on some gloss.
“Okay. you’re coming over today at my place.” I say and pull into the parking lot. Like always a huge crowd stands there in a circle and they’re all chanting something.
I won’t be surprised if someone sneaked a beer keg into our school. Our management is s**t. I walk over to the crowd and push some people out of the way to see what is going on.
Uh, I see two teenagers eating their faces off. I gag and walk into school. Students are chattering and entering their classes.
Everyone is excited for the dance today so when the bell rings, students stamped out of the buildings to leave the school.
“Okay, so the color everyone looks good in is black. So if you have any dresses in that color, we saved major time.” Skylar tells me while grabbing her dress out of her closet. We run down the stairs of her house and quickly drive away.
After we reach my house, we go into my gigantic closet.
“Normal people don’t have these many clothes.” She says bewildered. This takes us a good one hour to pick out a dress and another for my makeup.
I pick out a black strappy dress with some black heels.
Finally, I’m ready. The limo I rented comes to pick us up and then makes its way towards the school. I feel anxious and my palms turns sweaty when I think about him.
We get off and enter the school. The entrance has a big banner saying, “Spring Fling 2019!” Many blue and white balloons are tied onto the door.
I can hear the music blasting in the hallways. I step into the auditorium and instantly the loud music which seemed to be dull in the corridors hits me.
The room is lit up with neon blue lights and couples are dancing and there is a whole table lined up with treats.
“Well, where is your date?” Skylar asks me. Matthew finds her and they hug. I feel a soft tap on my shoulder and look back to find Colton.
“You look pretty.” He compliments me as I slightly blush. He takes my hand and leads me to his friends. The weird feeling in my stomach doubles when our skin brushes against each other's.
After a few minutes of introductions he takes me towards the dance floor, I spot Skylar and Matthew making out. Uh.
He holds my waist and I place my hands on his shoulders. We dance slowly and I can feel his hot breath on my neck.
“I can’t explain how lucky I am to be dancing with you.” Colton suddenly whispers me and I smile. I notice that something is wrong. Tension filled the air. Behind Colton Jacob dances with Catherine but he seems to concentrate hardly on something. I can’t place my finger on it but the same frown is visible on Colton’s face.
Suddenly a large crash erupts from somewhere in the school. Many people gasp and the music is turned off after sometime.
Students talk in a low tone and our principal steps out on the stage. He looks terrified like he saw something which scared the f**k out of him.
“Students, you need to leave the building right now for safety purposes. Something unidentified but dangerous is roaming the hallways right now. We found our janitor dead near the swimming pools.” He finishes, and the panic fills the air.
Colton’s hand tightens around mine. I glance at him from the corner of my eyes and he looks scared.
The door is opened and the students rush out of the auditorium. I can hear screams in the corridors and students run in different ways.
I run towards the right end of the school where there is an emergency exit when I’m suddenly pushed into the wall hardly. Black dots fill my vision and I hit the floor unconscious.
