Chapter 26
Dr. Stephen Helmsworthy stood up to the podium.
“I was in Provo, Utah nine years ago to interview someone for a faculty position here when I had the opportunity to observe a rehearsal of the Provo Symphony. I saw the young woman they’d hired as associate conductor who was conducting that rehearsal. The senior conductor there had bragged about their find and I was moderately interested to see if he was true in his assessment.
“I was amazed. That woman had outstanding skills as a conductor and an exceptional understanding for the music and the musicians. The entire orchestra immediately responded to her leadership and insight. Her manner was professional, yet warm and friendly.
