Matthias leaned forward on the coach seat and heard Leighton’s breath quicken. It would take some time for his coachmen to get through the crowded streets, which was probably a good thing, because despite his words and obvious interest, Leighton had not made a single move in Matthias’ direction.
Was Leighton an innocent after all? Matthias couldn’t believe it. Leighton had acknowledged too many hints and hadn’t seemed uncertain about what was happening.
