The vampire’s screams wore at her nerves until she felt raw and jumpy. And the dungeon was supposed to be soundproof. That’s what Jesse had told her their first day in the penthouse. The screaming wasn’t only loud, it was constant. She wanted to stake the vampire herself, but Gideon hadn’t said anything about staking his captive, so she resolved to ignore it.
But apparently vampires with holes in their ribs and guts would not be ignored. Not for long, at any rate. When she realized she was grinding her teeth together, and the resulting headache was spreading down her neck to her back, she knew she needed to get out. Emma closed the laptop. Air.
