I jump out of the car, my boots hitting the asphalt with a sharp sound that echoes through the silence of the night. The engine is still hot, but I don’t care. I inhale deeply, and my brow furrows instantly. The smell is unmistakable, thick, rancid, embedded in every corner of this abandoned place.
Death.
Old blood.
