Once we were all settled into our seats at the table I felt a wave of anxiousness flood over me. Surrounded by these other rulers of the other races made me feel so small. August sensed this and reassuringly placed a hand on my shoulder. I gave him a small smile, a silent “thank you” before turning back to the table. The enormous table was filled with representatives. Two of each race. That’s why August was forced to stand behind me while the rest of us sat. It felt wrong that he was forced to stand. I felt like scooching over to the edge of my seat to make just enough room for him to sit beside me, but I felt that wasn’t very appropriate in this setting.
