Chapter 26
Gavin’s afraid the first thing Evie will say when she sees Brody is that her daddy has a secret and it involves him. He can almost hear the words in her singsong voice, but as much as he wants to remind her to stay quiet, he doesn’t want to say anything to bring it back up again if she’s already forgotten about it. So he holds his breath as he unlocks the door to their condo, Evie dancing from foot to foot beside him because she has to use the bathroom.
Before Gavin can turn the key, though, the door opens and Brody’s there, sweeping Evie up in his arms and twirling her around. “Hello, princess,” he says, giving her a kiss on the forehead.
“Brody!” She hugs him tight, then wriggles to be put down. “I gotta pee!”
Quickly he sets her on her feet. “First door on the right.”
