She looked so peaceful when I awoke in the early hours, to leave for this stupid Alpha 'convention'. It may have been important, but whenever I went to this bloody thing, I was made to feel like I needed to prove a point. The history of my ancestor and his devouring of all our pack's assets to revenge his mate had left a black mark against our name, and my family had spent years trying to scrub it clean. I had to go, but Rex was anxious, and I could feel this overwhelming sense that I just shouldn't go this year. But, we both knew that it was because I didn't want to leave Elizabeth so heavily pregnant, alone, when the pups could arrive any minute.
