CHAPTER TWENTY THREE He leaned in, his lips subtly pecking my forehead as he smiled, “I’ll show you that it was worth it,”   “I hope so,” I said.   I watched him walk away, a smile and a bounce on his gait. Kaden was mine; finally, mine and yet as I stood in the elevator going up my floor with two other women busy on their phones, something undefinable felt amiss at a far distance. I had no idea what it was or what it was supposed to mean and so I pushed the idea in the far back of my mind. Humming, I took out my copy of key card that I’d picked at the front desk down at the lobby, swiping it.   The suite was empty when I walked in and so I proceeded to the shower, knowing that I was probably going to sleep alone tonight.
