The consequences of war

**P.O.V Sofia** I thought the Polar Pack couldn't hurt me any more than they did, but I was totally wrong! I thought all that movement in the pack was just a diplomatic setback caused by Alpha Max, but it was actually something very serious. The i***t head of our pack had rejected his predestined mate when he first met her because she was just a wolf of lower rank, the daughter of an omega, but now that the Moon Goddess has gifted her with a new, better and stronger mate, it seems that Alpha Max has gone mad. Alpha Max started chasing his old mate, who was now Luna from another pack - smaller and less powerful than ours, but still strong enough to find allies among the many enemies Alpha Max had made and start a war. Yes, the war was real and I saw the place I called home destroyed before my eyes. Screams of pain, growls and the sounds of things being broken and blown up could be heard everywhere. When the fighting started that late afternoon, I did what I did best, which was to hide. I went into a tiny storeroom that few people knew existed. It was under the kitchen table and was used to store some wines that were made there by the old Luna and it turned out to be the perfect hiding place. After a whole day locked in there, I decided to leave when I didn't hear any more sounds. I walked around Alfa's house and found no one. No high-ranking werewolf fighters or pack members: absolutely no one. I decided to explore the area around the house. I grabbed my coat from behind the door and went out, heading towards the square that was just a few meters away from the pack's main house. Although it was the middle of winter and the wind combined with all the snow covered the ground, making it white, I couldn't help but smell the strong scent of blood that permeated the whole place. Then my eyes met the pile of bodies, ready to be incinerated, and I realized that everything was over. I was in shock. As evil as those people were, war was much crueler. “Take her to the others!” An unknown voice ordered and I barely realized that I was being dragged out of that square. I think I fainted, I don't know. When I woke up, I was chained in a dark, damp cell. I knew I wasn't alone, but I still couldn't identify who or how many people were in there with me. I felt an ache run through my whole body and the longer I stood there, trapped by my arms, the more I thought it would be better to be in the middle of that square, dead, along with the other members of the pack. Time passed very slowly, in fact, I wasn't sure if I'd been there for minutes or days. My only certainty was that if no one came to get me out of here, I would die of dehydration or starvation. I haven't received my she-wolf yet and so I can't heal like the other werewolves, but from the way the people here are grunting in pain, I think this prison has some kind of poison that prevents the werewolves from transforming or even regenerating. In other words, we're all in the same boat. Despite the pain, I wanted to understand what was happening and maybe join forces to get out of there. “Hi, I'm Sofia, from the House of Alpha Max. Are you also from the Polar Pack?” I asked the people I knew were there, although I couldn't identify them because of the dim light. After some time in silence, a female voice grunted and answered me. “Apart from being a weirdo, are you also stupid? Haven't you realized that we're the last survivors of the war and that we'll probably die right here or become slaves?” Despite the chaotic situation we were in, I'd know that contemptuous voice anywhere. I couldn't believe that I would be spending my last moments of life next to Isadora, the person who hates me the most in the whole world and who would soon become Alpha Max's chosen Luna. Before I could even organize my thoughts, I heard a loud noise and a blinding light blinded my eyes, while the sound of metal dragging indicated that the door was being opened and that we would have some news about our future. “Take everyone to the meeting room. Alpha wants to see you.” When the soldiers released us from the chains attached to the top and tied my hands back with a kind of chain, I felt immense relief, despite the discomfort, which was minimal compared to what I was feeling. My condition was pitiful and when we left that prison and started walking towards the house of the Alpha who was going to judge us, I realized from the looks on the faces of those who met us that I was no longer a person. My life had no value to those people and I needed to prepare myself for what lay ahead. As soon as we reached the large round hall, adorned with large columns and a granite floor as red as blood, I allowed myself to rest for a while, trying not to feel sorry for myself for the fate my life was meeting. “I didn't have the pleasure of taking revenge on that coward Alpha Max, who ran away at the slightest sign of a fight, so because of the weakness of your leader, I'm going to kill the men and make slaves of the women. Let this serve as a warning to anyone who dares to disrespect me again.” The Alpha pronounced our sentence while his Beta wrote the message on a special piece of paper, hinting that he would send that document to many other places. Slave! I was horrified at what could happen to me. As hard as I had it in the Polar Pack, it was nothing like becoming a slave. Fear was overwhelming me and the only thing I could do was tremble with dread. I was so scared and when all five of the men who were with us were brutally murdered by a lycan executioner, I bowed my head in total surrender. My life no longer belonged to me and I had to accept my new fate.
