They didn’t ask me.
The Elders gathered early in the council chamber, surrounded by polished stone and flickering crystal light. Their decision came wrapped in ceremony, sealed with sigils and scented wax, and delivered as if it were a gift instead of a sentence.
“You are to be relocated,” the lead Elder said, “to the Crowned Court in the eastern province. The Alpha King’s fortress is better suited to guard… gifted wolves.”
Gifted.
Like I was a weapon to be locked away before I went off in someone’s hands.
Lucian stood beside me as they spoke. His face was stone.
When the Elder finished, he looked at me.
And for the first time since the ritual, he looked… guilty.
“They made this decision without me,” he said quietly.
I nodded. “Of course they did.”
“You don’t have to go.”
