CHAPTER THREE

727 Words
The board in Svetlana’s home was now a complete map for her revenge. Every note and photo led back to one person. But to get to the king, she had to trick the prince first. Svetlana looked at herself in the mirror. The scared little girl was gone. Now, she was a dangerous woman with cold eyes. She picked up a folder about the man she was targeting: Hunter Solis. "Hunter," she said quietly. To her, his name tasted like dirt. "The boy who has everything but cares about nothing." She looked at his details. Hunter was twenty-eight. He was the son of the powerful Theron Solis, but his father kept him on a short leash with money. Because of this, Hunter acted out. He spent his nights at expensive clubs, spending money and chasing women who only liked him for his name. "He’s bored," Svetlana noticed. She saw that his past girlfriends were all the same—they were too easy to win over. "He wants a challenge. He wants something he can't just buy." Svetlana got ready. She didn't just want to meet him; she wanted him to be unable to stop thinking about her. She used her savings to buy a beautiful, dark blue silk dress. It looked elegant and very expensive. As she put it on, she practiced her plan. She knew his favorite drink, his hobbies, and that he secretly wanted his father to be proud of him. She planned to use all of this against him. "You are his way to win," she told herself, "And he is yours." She sent a secret message to a worker at the Diamond Club, the fanciest place in the city. Is he there tonight? The answer came back: Table 4. 11 PM. He’s drinking and celebrating. It's the perfect time. Svetlana wasn't scared. She had already lost everything years ago. Now, she was just a ghost taking back what was hers. She practiced acting like a rich woman. She had spent years learning how to move and speak like someone from a wealthy family. She created a fake identity: Svetlana Vance, a mysterious woman with a secret past. She took a taxi to the club and walked past the guards. They worked for Solis, but she stayed calm. Inside, the music was loud and the air was full of expensive perfume. She moved through the room like a shark. People stopped to look at her because she looked so different and striking. She sat at the bar where she could see Hunter in the mirror. There he was. Hunter looked just like his father but more wild. He was surrounded by fake friends who laughed at his jokes and gave him more drinks. "Another round!" Hunter yelled. "The Solis family always wins!" Svetlana watched him. He was loud and messy. He was perfect for her plan. She didn't go to him. That would be too simple. Instead, she ordered a strong drink and sat by herself, reading a book of poetry. She ignored everyone else. In a loud room, she was the only one who was quiet and alone. Finally, Hunter noticed her. He was confused. Usually, every woman tried to get his attention, but this woman hadn't even looked at him. He walked over to the bar and leaned in next to her. "That’s a serious book for such a beautiful woman," Hunter said, trying to be charming. Svetlana waited. She finished her page, slowly closed the book, and looked at him. She didn't smile. She looked annoyed that he was talking to her. "It’s a book for people who don't need to shout to be noticed," she said in a low voice. Hunter was surprised. He wasn't used to being ignored. He smiled, feeling like he had found a fun new game. "I’m Hunter," he said, holding out his hand. "People usually listen when I talk." "I’m sure they do," she replied with a cold, tiny smile. "But I’m not like other people. And I’m not interested in you." She stood up, left her drink, and walked away. She didn't look back. Behind her, she heard him hurry to follow her. "Wait! I didn't get your name!" Svetlana kept walking, smiling to herself. She had him hooked. Soon, he would take her home, and she would finally be face-to-face with his father.
