The next day, Crius placed me in a wheelchair to take me to the NICU so I could see our baby. He hadn’t named her yet because he wanted to wait for me to wake up. He said he didn’t want to decide without me, and he wanted me to be the one to name our baby girl.
He pushed me out of the room, accompanied by a nurse. I didn’t really want to use a wheelchair, but he was worried I might hurt myself more if I walked. I felt restless because I was so excited to see her.
I saw the NICU sign, and we entered that hallway. We stopped at a nurse’s station, and our accompanying nurse explained our purpose there. Crius helped me stand, and we were given gowns, hair caps, and masks. He helped me wear them, and then we were finally allowed inside.
