Moon's Bathe

556 Words
Once a year, the second moon rises. For humans, it's just a normal phenomenon that happens every year but for some special beings, it's worth celebrating for. Just like for witches. My mother once told me when I was young that she happened to see some witches in the middle of the woods, wearing lingerie and nightgowns, and doing some ritual under the moonlight of the second moon. Their bodies were covered with oils to make them glitter while performing the ritual. Mother got curious at what they were doing that she created a noise and caught their attention. She was shocked to see their eyes all white with no pupil at all. She was screaming while running out of the woods. That causes the trauma of my mother and the only reason, she doesn't want me to get out of our house during the yearly night appearance of the second moon in the sky. But I got tired this time. I feel the strong urge to go outside and disobey my mother and see myself if there really are witches in the woods performing rituals. I sneak out from my bedroom window and jump off outside to run all the way to the woods. There's not a hint of being afraid while I'm doing this all alone. I am confident that I will see nothing tonight because I never believed her in the first place. And tonight, I will prove to her that all of it is false. It's past 10 o'clock in the evening and the wood is quite expectedly. I am walking straight, having no idea to where I'm heading. It's been minutes since I'm walking to nowhere inside in this dark woods. I forgot my flashlight so I have to depend on the moonlight escaping from the leaves from these tall trees. I sighed when I feel like I'm wasting my time going here. "I think I should go back." "Darling," I jump out from shock when someone behind my back whispered to my left ear. I turn around and saw my mother. I felt relieved that I heave a deep sigh. "Mom! You shocked me to death. Were you following me all this time?" I asked her but I never received a response. She just stares at me emotionless. Mom really is weird. "I told you, Mom. There's nothing here. Let's go home." I held her hand and tried to take her as I started walking but she didn't move a single bit. Now, she's acting really weird. What's with her? "Mom? I said let's go home." "We're not going home yet, Darling. It's about to start." Mom's voice got cold that it's new to me. She always speaks to me in a soft soothing voice but this time, she feels different. I got nervous when her eyes turned all white. "M-Mom.." "Darling, welcome to the Moon's bathe. Come and join us." She smiles at me and reaches my shoulders. She turns me around and I saw a lot of people with white eyes, wearing lingeries and looking at me. They all smile at me. It's creepy as f**k. "I told you it's true, Darling. Sometimes, curiosity kills the cat." Mom whispered to me while I'm still in the state of shock. I scream when they all started to walk towards me and I can't get off of my Mom's grip to my shoulders. Damn, witches.
