Chapter 3 - Scandalous

“W-Who are you? What...” I asked in shock and fear. I looked around the entire room but as I slowly got my senses back, I just grabbed my head when it throbbed and closed my eyes firmly. Oh, damn. I feel like my entire world is spinning! “What?” I looked at the man again when he spoke in a voice that had just woken up. He looked like he had just come from a deep sleep! Our eyes immediately met when he looked at my direction. “W-Where is Matt? Who are you?!” I approached the bed and searched for something. My things if I brought them! But all I can find are torn foils that almost make me curse under my breath. It felt like I was being hit in the chest. It was pounding non-stop. Matt’s my crush, my suitor... he will be my future boyfriend. But what is this... This is a mistake. This is a big mistake. Worse than all the mistakes I’ve made in my entire life. The corners of my eyes started to heat in fear and in anger... anger at myself for doing such a stupid thing! The man on the bed remained silent. He sat up, and the comforter slid down and his topless body was exposed. I was in a hurry and shouldn’t have noticed his well-built body with the muscles in the right places, or even the fact that he already looked tall even without standing yet. I could just easily tell. He ran a hand through his hair and leaned back on his hands for support, flaunting his abs! He stared at me with his sleepy yet serious eyes. “What are you saying... you came here, Sabrina,” he says. Oh, dear. That just made me run my palms across my face! If this is a dream, I need to wake up! I need somebody to wake the hell out of me! But no... I’m not dreaming. The face of the man in front of me was clear, now putting on his clothes. He faced me as he buttoned them. His hair is slightly messy, probably because of... I just wanted to get eaten by the floor as the thoughts that had happened all night flooded my mind one after another. How I gripped onto him tightly as he claimed me his, and how I pulled his hair... maybe that’s why it’s messy right now! His eyes were as cold as his voice. It was only hidden by his playful smirk and the gaze that was now focused on me. “S-Sabrina? Who’s that?!” I asked. What Sabrina is he talking about?! Wow, I wasn’t informed that my name had changed! He was also stunned and while earlier he seemed to not care, now he was staring at me for a long time. Oh, I really can’t believe him! Don’t tell me that I look like whoever Sabrina is! “I’m sorry, Angel, or was it Monica?” He casually put on his own robe while mentioning some girl’s name. “I am not Angel nor Monica, and I am definitely not Sabrina!” I said firmly. The man stopped putting on his long sleeves. He looked at me again, who was a few steps away from him. “Oh… is that so? Then how about ‘darling’? I probably won’t get that wrong, right?” I almost gaped at what he said. Just how many women has he been with for their names to mix up in his head?! I was naked underneath the sheet. I couldn’t even care longer. I could barely put my clothes on properly. I need to know why I woke up with this man instead of Matt! In my mind, Matt was with me all night! So how could... “I’m none of the women you mentioned. And you are clearly not Matt... who are you, then? And why are we together?!” I asked, and my eyes widened as I looked at the messy bed and the condom wrappers. “D-Did we have s*x? Did we...” “Yeah?” A playful smirk played on his lips as he buttoned the last button of his shirt. “You think you can f*ck yourself and use all these condoms alone?” The pounding on my chest continued. I couldn’t even pay attention to his sarcasm. I explained to him that I didn’t know him, but he said I was Sabrina. And he told me not to play with him! I clutched my hair in frustration. I told him I was not Sabrina! “This is... this is a mistake,” I said out of nowhere. The man’s eyebrows furrowed at what I said. He slowly walked closer to me and I stepped back. “What do you mean you’re not Sabrina? You were with my friends at the nightclub. They told you to come to my hotel room, and you did...” He was absolutely certain. I swallowed. I have to remember! I need to think and resolve this immediately! “Look, Mister, t-there’s... there’s a misunderstanding here! All I remember is that I was with someone else last night. I was with someone I know! I was with my friends when they took me to his room!” His eyebrows furrowed even more. I was already consumed by fear and nervousness because of this man’s presence, adding to all the thoughts playing in my mind. “You showed up in front of my door. Drunk and with a packet of condoms.” I just ran my hands through my hair. “I need to leave. Please, let’s just... let’s just forget about this. Let’s say this never happened!” I turned my back on him to leave, but he pulled me and faced me. He stared at me for a long time with his jaw clenched and his gaze piercing. “Who are you, then? If you’re not Sabrina, why are you here? What are you doing in my hotel room?” I pulled my hand back and looked at him bravely. I’m just a victim here too! I just made a mistake, too! I didn’t mean it and I didn’t know. “I told you… t-there’s a misunderstanding here. I didn’t mean to end up in front of your door...” All I know is that I was really drunk last night and I felt something strange… was I drugged? Did someone spike my drink at the nightclub? I looked at the man when he stopped me from leaving. He said I couldn’t just leave and we would talk. He went to the bathroom for a while, and I used that opportunity to escape. I couldn’t stay. His presence is enough to send me to the other side of this world! I couldn’t deny he was intimidating. I didn’t mind my aching body and head. I felt like everything in me was throbbing! I headed to the elevator room and collapsed weakly against the wall. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t remember what happened and why Matt wasn’t with me this morning! I immediately hailed a taxi and told the driver to hurry up and leave. As soon as I got away from that hotel, I leaned my head against the headrest and closed my eyes tiredly. My hands and knees were still shaking with nervousness, as were my lips. I bit my thumb as I stared out the window of the taxi driving away from that place, repeatedly wishing that my path with that man would never cross again. This is just a mistake. A mistake I committed at one wild college party... “Nathalia! What?” Esekia and my girl classmates excitedly sat down in front of me, at my table during our vacant time. “What happened last night after the party, huh? What happened between you and Matt? Come on, tell us!” They even pulled up a chair to move it over to me and listen to what I had to say. They’re waiting for the details I’ve shared with... well, not Matt, but the wrong guy I was in the wrong room with. I have no one to blame but myself, and I’m annoyed by that fact. If I hadn’t given in to alcohol. If I hadn’t accepted a drink from someone. If I… if I hadn’t given in to my feelings, none of this would have happened. “Uh, it was a... a great night,” I said with a forced smile as I set up my things. We had just finished our last subject. “Come on, tell us the details! Was he rough? Did he go gentle on you? Oh, I doubt that! They say Matteo is a beast in bed! Maybe he was rough to you! Look, you still have a bruise on your thigh and a fever,” Esekia said with a wide, goofy smile. I just answered them with smiles. My thigh did have a small bruise. Maybe, the man held onto my thigh so hard while he was… I cleared my throat. I can’t tell them what happened. I don’t know how I’m going to tell them that Matt wasn’t really the one I was with last night but a guy I didn’t know. “Why don’t you seem happy? What happened, huh? Was he not good? Were you disappointed?” Esekia asked curiously. “N-No, Esek… it’s just that, I’m not feeling well right now. I think I still have a hangover,” I said just to avoid explaining and telling stories. “Maybe he was so rough on you! That’s why you’re so tired.” They laughed. They were teasing me about how Matt and I had a long night. Maybe they wouldn’t confront it. Matt doesn't know what Esekia and Charri know. Charri is just quiet. That whole day, I just kept quiet. I don't feel good at all. My whole body's still aching. My mind is flying everywhere. Especially that afternoon when my older half-brother Cielo picked me up. “Have you gone mad?” That was his first angry question. When I got out of university, he just let me get in his car. After that, he pulled over to the side and let me get out just to scold me! He’s really annoying most of the time! Kuya Cielo is my half-brother. Mama’s son when she was still a maiden, but my father adopted him. Kuya Cielo basically grew up with my dad’s help. Daddy sent him to a prestigious medical school in the country. He loves him more than me. Always Cielo. Always Kuya Cielo! He’s always the only one who's good, responsible, and promising. And me? I have no importance. A display. I got out of his car. “What is it, Kuya Cielo? Why are you dragging me here?” “What the f*ck do you think you’re doing?” he asked angrily, eyebrows furrowed and really seething with anger. “You went to a nightclub last night!” I couldn’t answer. I was annoyed with Kuya Cielo. If it weren’t for him being a parent-stealer, then this would never have happened... “Do you know that i***t? No, you don’t? You slept with someone you don’t even know for f*ck’s sake, Nathalia Amaris!” It was like I was doused with cold water. I was stunned. I almost took a step back. W-What… how did he know? Why does Kuya Cielo know? Only Esekia, Charri, and our other classmates know about this! No one else would know if they didn’t tell anyone! “W-What are you saying, Kuya? I don’t know what you’re talking about...” He took a deep breath. He looked up and brushed his hair back. When he looked at me again, I was already hunched over like a lost puppy. I couldn’t look up. I don’t know what to do! “Fix yourself. Your father will not let this one pass,” Kuya Cielo said seriously and ordered me to get back in the car. “What do you mean? Dad won’t let this one pass? He doesn’t know anything about this!” I chased after Kuya Cielo. I felt scared by what he said. Did someone tell my father?! Have I been exposed for all the stupid things I’ve done? “Kuya!” I shouted because he didn’t want to answer me and instead sped the car away towards the mansion. “He f*cking knows. Someone sent your photos that night. If it hadn’t been acted upon immediately, your stupidity would have spread on social media.” Kuya Cielo’s voice was as cold as ice, and he wasn’t joking. I just kept looking at him as my heart rate slowly slowed down at what I heard. “And of all the choices you made to include in your stupidity, Nathalia, you really chose that f*cker?” he added, shaking his head and getting lost in thought. Does Kuya Cielo know... that man? And wait, what... am I having a scandal?!
