"We survived. You and I. And those who survive have a duty. Our duty is to do our best to keep on living. Even if our lives are not perfect." ― Haruki Murakami, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "WHAT THE HELL!!!" He angrily shouted at the man he had just knocked out to the ground. He was just sitting on the ground when out of the sudden, someone attacked him from behind. And out of his shock and defensive instincts, he quickly got up to her feet that made his attacker stumbled and then he throw a straight punch to his nose. His attacker staggered and fall to the ground and into utter oblivion. "JUL!!" He heard someone shouted from his left. He glance at that way. A woman in a disheveled state run to the unconscious man and started shaking him to wake up. "JUL! ! ... " She called, still shaking the unconscious man that from the blow he had received from him, won't wake up till later. The woman continued to shake the man but when no response came, she got to her feet and glared at him with fury in her eyes. "You! Savage man! Why the hell did you do that to Jul??? Are you some animal who would kill every people who will approach you???!" She angrily shouted at him while walking near him and stopped before him. He frowned while looking at her. 'Maybe, she's the girlfriend. How wonderful!' he sarvastically thought. With hands on his hips, he bravely faced the mad woman before him. "For your information Miss, I'm not some animal who would "kill" everyone as you prefer it to say. If you didn't know, he had just attacked me from behind!" he counter-shouted to the mad woman calling him names! Somewhat annoyed by defending her overweight boyfriend. "ATTACKED???!! Are you someone who just came out from war?? That you'll aggressively attack anyone who will touch you?? " She muttered with great fury in her brown eyes, ready to kill him anytime if she will be more provoked. Hearing the word "touch" from her. He scoffed then shook his head, not believing her say that. "Touch me?? " He asked sarcastically before he continued. "And why would you think he would just touch me and not attack me instead??" he continued with crossed arms against his chest while looking at the woman before him with all her hair sticking everywhere on her face. Challenging her to make no nonsense explanation. His brow arched when she crossed her arms as well then out of sudden, came a smirk on her face. "Oh! You should know what the "excited homosexual" would do if he happened to see a man in this isolated island that maybe, the only man possibly existed here." She sarcastically explained, making him furrowed his brows, confused. 'What the homosexual would do to-----' He wasn't able to finish his thought when understanding dawn to him. He heard her chuckled while looking at him with horror on his face. "Oooow....." he muttered while nodding his head. The woman nodding as well with a smirk still pasted on her face. "Ahuh.. Now, d'you still think he was planning to "harm" you back then by attacking you from behind? " she mockingly asked him. Now challenging him in turn to make an assumption that he knows she already knew better than him. The hell with that overweight man! He groaned. "I don't care what evil things he was supposed to do with me, so long as he's away from me then he will be okay." He muttered dismissively. Not liking the thought of this overweight man planning to do evil things on him. The woman shook her head at his comment and about to open her mouth to answer but stopped when she heard the unconscious man moaned. Moaning like he was having a good dream. She hastily got to his side then lightly tapped his plump cheek. "Jul? Are you okay now?" She asked the now conscious man lying on the ground. Seeing the man conscious now, he leave them be with their business then picked his bag and phone on the ground and headed to the huge rock nearby. He had to find a signal if he wanted to go home the soonest possible time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Jul finally awake from being knocked out, she then carefully helped him to stand on his feet since he was still dizzy from the hard blow and his broken nose quite an evidence. She smirked thinking what other horrible things would happen to Jul if he ever make a move towards that man again. By the thought of that man, she quickly looked for him when she realized he was nowhere in sight. She found him on his way to the top of the huge rock where they were hiding before. She frowned, confused with what he was doing. "Hey! Mr. aggressive! What are you doing up there??" She shouted at him but to her annoyance, he didn't answer and just continued whatever he was doing. "OH.... He's really a sight to look at...." She heard Jul muttered that with dreamy voice. She look at his way and found him maliciously looking up at where the man is while hands still nursing his broken nose. She shook her head, not believing Jul still behaving this way. Trust Jul to walk on thin ice if he badly want to flirt with a man. She turned to look at the man again. He was now standing at the top of the rock. She saw him took something in his bag then raised it up in the air. She narrowed her eyes at the rectangular thing in his hand then her eyes widened when recognition finally hit her. 'It's a phone!' She exclaimed in her mind. Suddenly got excited with the idea of them finally going home. "Hey! Can I make a call too?? Please?!" She shouted at him, eager to call home. Oh, she forgot she has no home to call by the way. 'So what?' she thought. But to her annoyance, the man just ignored her. 'The hell with that man!!!' she angrily thought. "s**t! Not even here!" She heard him cursed. She saw him clasped his hands on his head, now look so frustrated. "Hey! What do you mean "not even there"? Are you preferring to the signal?" She shouted at him, somewhat saddened with the thought. The man finally looked at her when he heard her asked that. "Yes! Not even a single bar!" He shouted back at her. "Oh-Oh..." She muttered with her shoulders sagged, she felt losing the hopes in her. She saw the man climb down the rock with his bag on his back then headed straight where she and Jul were. "I believe we had no choice but stay here and wait for any rescue to come. I'm gonna find some place or a cave around here for shelter. Are you two coming with me?" He asked while looking at her as he stood before them with hands on his hips. When his eyes turned to look at Jul, who's watching him with batted eyelashes, he grimaced then shook his head. "Never mind. I think going to our separate ways would be better." He grumbled then turned away from them. Hearing him say that, she suddenly felt alarmed. Knowing he could be a great help if they want to survive in this island. "Wait!" She called up at him as she quickly walked up to him while glaring at Jul's way. Jul quickly behaved. The man stopped on his tracks and faced her. "We'll go with you. Don't worry about my friend, he'll behave while we're with you. Right, Jul?" She asked Jul while looking at his way with a big threat in her eyes, telling him she would kill him if he ever say no. Jul getting her message, nodded his head vigorously. She smiled then looked up back at the man before her. "See?? He'll behave. I assure you that." She said while looking at him with hopeful eyes. He stared at her some time before sighing loudly and finally give in. "Fine. Now, you two follow my lead." He said with firm voice then turned around and started walking ahead of them. They quickly followed his tracks quietly. Afraid that if they'll utter any words, he'll shooed them away from him. And that is not what they wanted to happen. By the time they found a small cave for shelter, darkness started to fall around them. It wasn't exactly a cave, it was just a hollow rock not far from the shore but quite hidden because of some bushes covered around it and rocks as tall as her guarded the entrance way of their shelter. She and Jul quickly sat on the right side and started to sit comfortably but before they could do so, the man started to talk to them. "I'll take a look around if I can find something for us to eat. Dark starting to fall outside so it's impossible to catch some fish." He said as he turned to walk out of the cave with his bag still on his back but stopped when he remembered something. "And one more thing, it would be better if you two could gather some dried twigs. And, if you know how to make a fire, much better. I'll go gather some dried twigs as well while finding us something to eat." Then he walked out after saying that. "You'll do both all alone?" She quickly asked him, thinking it's quite a hard task to do that alone. "Yes." He answered without turning back. She quickly ran to his side. "I can go with you. Jul can managed himself here." That made the man turned to look at her, eyeing her as if she had grown two heads in her shoulder. When he just stared at her and no answer came from him. She added, "And besides, I can climb tree..." And when he still doesn't answer, she continued to convince him. "And..... I can help you carry some twigs or even foods if there are any." She convinced him while giving him a sweet smile and a puppy look in her eyes. Not long after, she heard him sighed then shook his head as he turned around. "Okay, you can come." That made her jump with excitement. She heard Jul cleared his throat at her back. She turned to look at his way with an arched brow. "How do I suppose to manage here, Anya? I know nothing about making fire." Jul said in a hushed tone while making a face. She gave him a look then shrugged and take her leave. But before she could finally go outside, she answered him. "Remember what you did in your Boy Scout time Jul. I know you can do it." She said in a tone as if cheering him. Hearing her say that, she heard him groaned loudly. She smiled when thinking what Jul would do all by himself. She was sure it would be epic! That thought made her smile more, not noticing she was nearing the man with all the goofy smiles on her face. "What's with that silly smile on your face?" Hearing him say that in a much closed distance made her jumped out of surprise while hands clutching her chest. She sighed loudly. Feeling relieved that it was only the man and that she has nothing to worry about. "Don't do that again, okay? I could have a heart attack here because of you!" she whisper-yelled at him, hands still clutching her chest. The man just frowned at her and shook his head seeing her acting all jumpy. Well, he better not do that again if he don't want her sweet wrath. "Let's go." "Yeah, let's." She quickly followed him with a half-running and half-walking steps to keep up with his long strides. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
