Chapter Fourteen Christel felt the heaviness of her throbbing head the next morning. She’d woken up later than usual, yet her sleepy eyes still wanted to remain shut for an hour more or so. The memory of last night was vivid, but she knew the alcohol was still in her system. She sat and rested her back on the bed’s headboard before she rubbed her eyes. The tray of food was already on the table, and a few folded clothes were lying on the couch next to it. Jemimah must have walked in to bring her newly washed clothes and her food without waking her up. Her fingers massaged her aching temples.
