Chapter 6

1088 Words
I found my mother in the kitchen and busy baking. I approached her and kissed her cheek. She liked baking homemade cakes. That was why Therese loved staying here. She loved my mother's baking. "I'll help you out, Mom." "How was the party? You must be very happy because you saw Brent again," she said teasingly. My hand that was holding an egg stopped in midair. I immediately turned to her and she looked at me with teasing eyes. "Mom..." This was what I liked about my parents. I could talk to them like that. A type of parent that was just like my best friend. I could tell them how I felt personally. I didn't kept a secret from them. "Except for the part where you died and came back to life." I dropped the egg I was holding. It went straight on the floor and broke. I just close my eyes to keep from cussing. I was alive again but I might die again because of nervousness! "You don't seem to be on yourself, Alliyah?" I immediately sat down to clean up the egg that was now scattered on the floor but Mom stopped me. "You go now upstairs. It looks like something's going on in your mind." It was your fault, Nicole! "Wow! Be thankful and I even revived you." Thank you? Maybe you would be the reason for my nervousness! Could you just speak slowly and not scared me out? "Alliyah?" "Yes!" Mom and I were both startled by my sudden answer. I even heard Nicole whistling away from where we were. "Are you all right, Alliyah?" Mom was now obviously worried. "I'm-It's okay, Mom." I immediately took a tissue and was ready to clean the egg, but she had already snatched the tissue from my hand. "Go up to your room and rest first. You'll have another party later on, won't you?" This was why I didn't want to leave them. They loved me so much and they were so kind. They were the perfect parents for me. Mom gently pushed me out of the kitchen. So I could do nothing but go up to my room. I found Nicole lying on my bed. "Feel at home, ah?" I sarcastically told her. I suddenly leaned against my bedroom door when I closed it. Memories of the night I was mercilessly killed flashed through my mind. I looked around my room. "Oh? You have a problem?" I ignored her and continued to observe my room. The killer broke into my room. I meant, I knew her and I was sure of it. I was thinking right now who had already entered my room. Other than Therese, I have no other in mind. But, I was sure Therese wasn’t the only one who got into this room of mine. All I knew was that we had classmates who were also close to me. But why couldn't I remember? Why didn't I remember any memories when I was still studying? I immediately turned my gaze to Nicole, who was already staring at me. I went to my bed and sat down next to her. "Why can't I remember the time when I was still studying?" She looked at me curiously. "Are you sure?" I nodded. "All I know is that apart from Therese, I have other friends who have entered my room before." "Why do you want to remember?" "I was murdered here in my room... she got here in my room. I mean, she's been here before." I was shocked when she applauded. "You have a brain, too!" "Come on! Just answer my question." She was now quiet. Because I didn't know what her reaction was because until now she didn't have a face at all. I just didn't look at her, it was useless anyway. "I also do not know." When she told me that, I turned to her immediately. "What do you mean you know nothing? You gave me my life again so it's impossible that you know nothing." She turned to me. That was why I could see her literally blank face. "Actually... you were the first to last over an hour." "What—" "They all failed in the mission to find out who killed them." I remained silent. I felt a mixture of shock and fear at the same time. Shocked because of what I had found out, and fear because I might ended like them who never had a chance to know who killed them. "Even I... I can't remember why I died." That was probably the most shocking thing I had ever heard from her. "I was cursed by a soul reaper or what we call a grim reaper. He said, as long as no one succeeds in those who have died and the ones I have gave their lives back... I will remain like this for the rest of my life. I will not know why I die." I looked at the floor immediately upon hearing to what she just hay. What she was going through was worse. "I thought maybe I was bad when I was still alive. I won't be cursed if I was kind." "H-How old have you been in that situation?" "I also do not know." "Hmm, how many people have you given their lives back again?" "Thousands ..." That much? "So I change their behavior. I make them brave so that what happened to them won't happen again. But... still nothing. They're still scared. You're the only one who's different." I didn't know if I would be happy and thought that I even still had the hope to find out who killed me. "So I'll help you as much as I can. Even if we both can't remember what happened, I'll try to help." "It's already a big help that you gave my life back." "I can't help but remind you from time to time that you must not trust the people around you. First, I can't read their thoughts as quickly as I can read your minds. Second, I'm not allowed to interfere. Third, this is your battle to fight." I nodded. Yes, this was my battle. "I won't waste the second chance you gave me. And maybe if I can win this, your memories will also be given back to you." I would never let everything come to an end without knowing the idiôt who killed me. Just you wait. Whoever you were, I would catch you no matter what.
