"Really, these two." Someone muttered and I ignored it. Who would come here this early? And nobody knew the passcode of this unit. Except for . . .
"Nate, Nat, wake up! You are all late!"
Kuya Mike?
Nate sat abruptly from his sweet sleep. "What?" he blurted out. "Why you didn't wake me up, Hime?"
"I don't know," I spoke lazily while rubbing my eyes. "I was also asleep."
"You two are not going to school?" asked Kuya Mike.
I sleepily faced Nate. "You want to go to school?"
"Nah, I don’t wanna," he replied with an equal tone as mine. I smiled instantly. Yay, no one will go to school today! "Oh? You seem so happy, Hime?" Nate noticed.
I nodded as a response and my grin grew wider. "No class."
"Well, generally, there's a class today."
"Eh?" I irked in confusion. "I know, but we're not going to attend school."
"So, that's it, huh?" Nate grinned back and then tucked some loosened hair to my ears.
"Yup," I answered. "However, it'll be boring if we're going to stay here."
"Well, yeah," Nate said. "Do you have plans for this day?" I made a face. Right, I had no plans. I shook my head, telling Nate that I didn't have one. "As I expected," he muttered. "But I have."
"What's it? What's it?" I smiled an excited smile on my face.
"In my home," he told me with a kind of cool smile. "You know, Hime, we can talk forever in my house. Then, we'll watch our favorite movies together. We can play games, we can cuddle on my bed, or maybe—"
"Shut it," I said obnoxiously. Plans? In his home? Oh, please. For I knew, he'd just going to bully me.
"You guys, I'm gonna leave."
Nate and I gazed where the voice came from.
"Oh, Kuya Mike, you’re here," I said.
"Yo, Kuya! You really lack presence, don’ya?" Nate greeted him as well. "I honestly didn't notice yah."
"Oh, don't worry." Kuya Mike replied with a sarcastic tone. "I don't mind. I have a similarity to shadow, y'know."
"Blah." I almost rolled my eyes. "Just get a date, Kuya, it will help you."
He scoffed. "That's . . . comforting, thank you."
Ugh. He was about to leave, but I quickly stood up and chased him. Grabbing his one arm, I made him halt on his pace. "Kuya Mike, wait."
He turned his head to my direction with his creased brows, "Yeah?"
"Well, on the other side . . . Let's have a date." I smiled sweetly.
"Date?"
"Yes." I shrugged. "The big brother and little sister date."
I saw a small grin lined across his face. "Sure, little girl, why not?"
"So, where?"
"How 'bout to our childhood house?" he suggested.
Hoh, good idea. "I'm in."
"Uh, guys, excuse me, but I'm still here." I heard Nate complain in a dull and sardonic voice. Ah, right. He was still here.
Later that moment, we started preparing. I went to the bathroom and took a bath, while Kuya Mike presented that he would cook for breakfast. As for Nate, he left to go to his own house. Soon after, we finished. I was wearing a black dress, white cardigan, a pair of thigh-high socks, and black platform boots. We climbed inside Kuya Mike's car (he was on the driver seat), Nate on the passenger seat, and I, on the backseat.
"Hime, you owe me an explanation," Nate demanded out of the blue. It got me thinking. What did he mean? Then an imaginary light bulb gleamed on my mind. Ah, right.
"You have some crumbs, Nate?" Kuya Mike notified himself.
“Not just the crumbs, Kuya, but the whole damn cake,” Nate mused while smirking.
Kuya Mike laughed aloud and it sounded so annoying for me. “Mind to give me a slice?”
"Well, it looks like our little princess found her prince already."
And my eyebrow automatically raised. Really?
"It's that true, baby girl?" Even Kuya Mike was smirking.
"It's not. And I am not," I said gruffly while averting my eyes outside.
"Well, beat me, Hime. You do," Nate retorted while sensing his meaningful gazes at me.
"Do I need to tell Dad about this?" Kuya said while driving.
"Nah, don't bother, it's nothing."
"Okay," he answered. "So, how did you meet him?"
"Who?" I asked innocently to Kuya.
"Chance." Nate reminded me.
"Feh," I muttered while sighing.
Later that day, these two guys were mocking me after I told them what happened between us Chance. There was no really a highlight, but it seemed like it was a big deal to them. I told them all. Yes, when I said all, it meant everything.
"So, in school, you guys are strangers?" Kuya Mike questioned.
"No. Not really like that. We're talking but it's restricted to tell them that we're twins." Nate explained and I nodded, agreeing with him.
We kept on talking and talking about random things until we reached the place. We all exited the car as we looked at our old mansion here.
"Aww! I miss the fresh air in this place," Nate declared, stretching his arms.
"Yeah. It has no changes," Kuya Mike seconded.
The caretakers here were still serving the White Nation. I was twelve when we left this home. I breathed in the air. This place was so memorable for me. This place was also my training ground before they moved me to Japan.
"Can I stroll for a bit?" I asked my two brothers.
"Okay," it was Kuya Mike who responded. "Just come back early. We'll prepare our lunch."
"Got that." I smiled at Kuya Mike before leaving.
The place was full of trees. Layers of dried leaves were on the ground, creating some noise of the crisps. The wind blew and the trees created a peaceful but eerie sound. It was the sound of the forest. This forest was located on the foot of a mountain. Ordinary people were not welcome here.
I grinned as I closed my eyes, savoring the moment with nature.
But immediately opened my eyes once hearing a strange rustle sounds on the ground.
"Who's there?" I declaimed, activating my battle instincts.
No one answered. I followed where the sounds were coming from. Pushing some branches away, I found a puppy. A puppy? The puppy couldn’t move. Its leash was tangled on a certain branch.
I walked closer, but the puppy was a feisty one. Is there something wrong with me?
I inhaled and exhaled. Maybe I unleashed my foreboding aura. I calmed myself and changed my aura into a sweet one.
"Shh, it's fine." I went near the puppy and squatted down. Then I untied its leash to set the dog free and picked her up while smiling. I noticed her collar and read the name written on it. "Anami. You're a girl, huh?" I chuckled, patting her head.
"Anami!!" A sudden little girl's voice resounded and Anami barked upon hearing it.
"Oh? I think your owner's looking for you," I spoke to her. "Let's search for her, aye?" Anami barked again, agreeing with me.
I started to walk, locating where the voice came from. After a long search, I found the girl. Anami jumped down from my grasps and ran towards her owner.
"Wah! Anami!" The little girl was surprised, seeing her pet was already in front of her. "I thought I couldn't find you!" Once she perceived me, she smiled a very angelically. "Ate, did you find her for me?
“Yes, it happened that I saw her.” I returned the smile. "You're alone here?"
"Ah!" she uttered as her eyes widened, emphasizing her innocent eyes. Her eyes were grey. "I'm with Kuya Ancy!"
I blinked how many times as I got stupefied just because of staring at her eyes. "Really?" I exclaimed, erasing some of my thoughts. "Let me accompany you to your house then."
"You'll do?"
I nodded and she gave me a hearty smile. "Let's go," I invited and we started walking together. I couldn't help but wonder. Why they were here? Their home was built nearby? Then she was the daughter of some of our retainers guarding our old home? That was a possibility, though.
"Do you know where your brother is?" I asked her and she only sheepishly shook her head. “All right, we’ll look for him.” She nodded dutifully.
"Airelle!"
Again, a random male voice shouted out of the blue.
"Oh, oh! That was Kuya Ancy!"
"Eh?" I flabbergasted. Her name was Airelle? And she was missing? "Oh, come on, then!"
"Okie!" Airelle saluted while beaming brightly.
I silently tracked the voice. I could only feel his voice, but I couldn't feel his presence. I made my presence visible so that he could follow us instead.
"Kuya Ancy!" Airelle shouted for her brother.
"Airelle!" he returned.
I hastily followed where the soundwaves came from. "He's here. Come."
Almost, I could find him. I could feel it.
A little bit more . . .
"Ack!——" I yelled all of a sudden yet furiously when I got tripped on a root!
Stupidity is the cause!
I was actually falling!
Shutting my eyes tight, I was waiting for the pain to hit me.
But someone hoisted my waist, pulling me back to my stance.
I felt safe with this person's strong arms were hugging me from behind.
It's a he!
And the most cliché moment.
I could feel his breathing in my right ear. His warm breaths tingled down to my neck that made my body stiffened. "A beautiful lady like you is actually a deceiving idiot."
I could appreciate his fast reflexes for saving me, but no thanks.
Turning my body to face him, I had just got the loudest and most dramatic gasp on my mind!
Gray eyes.
He was looking to my eyes coldly, without showing any emotions. I can't see life in it.
He let out a silent sigh and simply looked sideways, pushing me away from him.
"You're Ancy," I uttered.
Yes, I indeed was surprised that he was the person that the little girl was referring to.
He never responded and only focused his attention on his little sister.
"Kuya Ancy, Kuya Ancy!" Airelle giddily called her brother. "She helped me to find Anami!"
"Really?" Chance questioned still unfazed.
"Hmn! She even helped me to find you."
"You should thank Natsumi, then."
Airelle gazed at me and went to me. "Thank you, Ate Natsumi!" she giggled. "Your name is so pretty!"
That made me chuckle. "Yours too, Airelle."
“But, Airelle,” Chance spoke. “You shouldn’t trust strangers easily.”
That had just offended me! “Without me, you ungrateful stranger, your sister will be lost in this vast forest.” I snarled at him.
He only went to deadpanned mode. “I can still find her, otherwise.”
“Blah, just admit that you’re reckless enough that you let your sister got lost.”
"Just shut up," he snapped.
“Loser,” I snapped back. Why can’t he just be thankful?
I heard him groan in irritation. I looked at him, he was silently gritting his teeth.
"Heh," I smirked and he saw me. That made him more annoyed.
Well, it was really fun pissing someone off.
Suddenly, my phone rang—inside the sling bag I carried. I excused myself and went to a distant place, a few meters away to them.
"Yo," I answered.
"Where are you?" It was Nate on the line.
"Where am I?" I looked around the place. "Ah, I’m in the forest~!" I stated the obvious with pure sarcasm and feigned enthusiasm.
I sensed his facepalm. "Sarcastic little brat. Come back here already. We’re waiting for fo you."
I chuckled. "Okay, bye." Then I pressed the end button. "I need to go," I told them when I reached the siblings.
"You're going already?" Airelle said in a pouty face.
I only nodded. "It’s so nice meeting you." I brushed her hair and bent down to kiss her forehead. "Goodbye, Airelle."
"Bye!!" She beamed while waving a hand.
I turned my back. But before I left, I gave Chance a sidelong glance. I saw how his eyes dilated a bit—seemed surprised that I gazed at him—but returned into a cold look immediately. "Bye, Ancy."
He cleared his throat and looked sideways again. "Be careful, Natsumi."
A small sideward grin formed on my lips then I looked away. I started walking without looking back. And like the wind, I disappeared out from their sights.
I neither didn't know how did they get here nor why they were here, but it was still a fateful incident.
