My mother is going to celebrate her birthday this coming Wednesday, I need to prepare for the present that I know she will really like. I take a last look at the mirror to make sure that I look presentable in the meeting later. I heard a knock from the door but I know it was just my mom. “Son, can I come in?” She shouted so I can hear her clearly. I rapidly opened the door to let her in. I noticed that she is holding a small box but I did not ask her what’s inside. “What can I do for you, Mom?” I questioned her but she just smirked at me and handed me the box. “What is this for?” “Do not ask, just open it so you’ll know.” I do what she said and when I opened the box saw a golden key. My forehead creased and I look at her, wondering why’d she gave me a key. “I will promote you as the CEO of the company and I will give you the penthouse, but!” She lifted her finger and wiggle it. “But what, Mom?” I impatiently asked her. “But you have to call off the wedding,” she casually said like it was nothing. How can I do that to Ivien? “Why? You wanted to have your own penthouse and you want to be the CEO. I am giving it you and you will inherit all of my fortune, you just have to call off the wedding and leave her.” I saw fury in her eyes as we speak but I remained silent. I don’t want to open my mouth because I will only hurt her feelings. I don’t have a heart to leave Ivien. I need her, she is my comfort and she is the one who is keeping me sane. “Son, listen to me. She’s no good. What will she offer? She was just nothing but a public school teacher, she doesn’t have a company and her family does not make enough money.” I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth. The anger was building inside my chest. “Mom! I have my own mind! I know what is best for me! Why are you against my girlfriend? Why do you want me to leave her? Because she is not from a wealthy family? I don’t want the people to call her The Jilted Bride, so please. Stop controlling my life.” I breath heavily before of anger. My mom glared at me and I think I made her angrier. “Yes! She’s not rich! So why waste time! I can set you up with the daughters of my friends just don’t settle with that girl.” She almost cried while begging me but I really can’t. “No, Mom. Enough of this. Here is your key and stop meddling with my life if you don’t wanted to lose your only son,” I threatened her a bit and I think it’s effective because she stopped nagging me. “I need to go, I will see you at dinner.” I kissed her forehead and left her inside my room. I descended and when I reached the last the door I heard her shout frustratedly. “Sorry, Mom, but I cannot do what you want. Just ask me anythinh but do not tell me to leave her,” I whispered and hoping that she can hear me even though it’s impossible to happen. I TRIED to stop myself from screaming but I can’t contain myself. I am fuming mad and I wanted to hurt that Ivien with my own hands. If my son don’t want to leave her then I’ll be the one to break them apart. My son deserves the best and it’s not Ivien, she was nothing but gold digger, social climber and a user. I may sound too harsh but I am just describing what I saw in her. “Ahhh! I hate you!” I shouted on the top of my lungs and went out of his room. I searched for my driver and told him to ready the Lamborghini that I owned. I am going to see that woman to make her disappear in my son’s life. I changed my clothes into something fancy and elegant, a clothes that screams power and wealth. I want her to see that she doesn’t belong in my world, she should focus on brightening those retarded kids. After changing my clothes I went outside and I smiled when I saw that my car and my driver is already ready. “Let’s go, Alfonso.” He quickly opened the door for me and drive me to Ivien's apartment. I will throw her out of that place. I didn’t realized that I am staring at the rearview mirror for the whole time. I met Alfonso’s eyes and a smile automatically appeared on my lips. Alfonso is young and has a nice body. He is working to me as a part time job, his father is my original driver but he took his father’s place coz’ he is sick. Such a loving son. "We are already here, Madame Margarita," he informed me and went out of the car to open the door for me. He even assisted me and stayed by my side as I walk towards her apartment's door. Alfonso knocked the door thrice and after a few seconds I already saw her, her face paled and i noticed her lips started to shake a little bit. She is scared by me and that's a good thing. "Can I come in?" I asked her, she quickly nodded her head and open the door widely so I can enter her house. I covered my nose when I smell the stinking smell of alcohol and I was horrified to see a lot of beer cans and bottles littering on the floor. "Don't you know how to clean your place?" I asked her with disgust, she lowered her head and didn't answer me. "Clean this place, no one will buy this if it has a smelly odor and dirty." "Buy?" she asked in confusion, I crossed ny arms and raised my left brow. "Why? Do you have a problem with that?" I raised my voice at her but I noticed that she didn’t even flinched. “Why would you do that? This is the only place that I have, I worked hard to have this apartment but you are just threatening me that you will sell this?” she cried. I ignored her and picked up the vase in the center table and throw it to the wall. “No!” she shouted so loud and hurriedly kneeled on the floor to picked up the broken pieces. “My father gave this to me.” “Stop being dramatic, Ivien. Fixed your things and leave this apartment.” She look at me with full of hatred and torment. “Why do you hate me so much? I didn’t do anything to you,” she asked me with a trembling voice. I lifted my chin and crossed my arms. “If you only listened to me then maybe I’ll be nicer to you but you disappoint me. You just proved to me that you aren’t good for my only son.” I diverted my gaze to Alfonso and signaled him to take her things. He started to move and he picked up the items and furniture that Ivien owned and throw it outside. “W-what are you doing?” she panicked and tried to stop Alfonso. She take her things away but Alfonso continued to throw he things. I picked up some valuable glasses and throw it on the wall. “Stop! What are you doing! Stop throwing my stuffs! No! Not my laptop!” she tried to take her laptop from me but I pushed her to the ground. I smacked her laptop to the center table several times. She hugged my legs to stop me, she’s crying so hard but I didn’t listen to her. “S-stop it, Ma’am Margarita. Pleaseee… stop it, it’s important to me. Stop it, I beg you. Stop it, no… no…noooo!” I dropped her laptop on the floor and stomped on it until it is totally ruined. “Go to her room and throw away her clothes outside!” I ordered Alfonso. Ivien hurriedly went upstairs and blocked Alfonso but he pushed her, she fell from the staircase and I saw her head hit the floor. I walked to her side and kicked her stomach. “Get up! Leave this apartment and don’t ever show your face to my son again. Do you understand that?!” She was just looking at me and not saying anything, but her eyes has a lot of words to express. Hate, torment, disappointment and pity. Alfonso finished what I told him to do so we left Ivien in her messy apartment. I hope this time she will just run away because of humiliation or she should kill herself. I WIPED my tears and picked up all my stuffs one by one. My eyes are blurry and whole body won’t stop from trembling. I am shaking not because of what happened earlier, but because of anger. Margarita is belittling me, if she doesn’t want me to be Kenji’s wife, she should’ve talk to me nicely. Not to do things like this. I know how much she hates me but why? I don’t understand why it ended up like this. It’s almost midnight when I finished fixing and tidying everything. I don’t have tears left to cry and my heart is already numb from experiencing all of the negative emotions. My heart has been broken into pieces and I can’t fixed it. I am tired from the people who don’t like me. I don’t give a damn anymore. I will focus on Kenji and our wedding, if his mother act up again I will fight fairly. I sit still on the floor and problematically put my hand under my chin. I sighed and blew a deep breath then sigh again. I stared at the broken piece of the vase. This is the only memory that I have from my father. We may not have the same blood but he is the only one who treat me well. My phone started beeping in my pocket, I lazily get it and picked up the call. “Yeah?” “Did something happened, Love?” Kenji asked from the other line. I smiled because his voice sounded so sweet. Suddenly all of my worries and fear washed away. “Nothing… I am just tired from cleaning my whole apartment. Why did you call by the way, you should rest. It’s already past midnight.” He chuckled softly and sighed with contentment. “I am just missing my soon to be bride that is why I called.” My smile became bigger and I can feel the butterflies in my tummy. Silence fell between us and I was about to speak when he interrupted me. “I am going to invite you to my mother’s birthday. Don’t worry about the dress, I’ll be the one to provide it.” “I don’t think your mom would love to see me on her special day,” I said while playing with my lower lip. I did not tell him about the things that happened between me and his mother. I don’t want to give him a problem. “Oh, she wouldn’t mind, after all you’re going to be my wife. And my cousins are going home so it’s a good opportunity for you to meet them.” I think deeply about it but I am really worried that his mother will humiliate and bad-mouth me in front of many people. “Love? Can you please attend? I’ll be waiting for you,” he pleaded hopefully that I don’t have a heart to decline. “Okay,” I whispered and bit my lower lip with my eyes shut closed tightly. I’m clutching the hem of my shirt. I just hope that the heaven will be good to me. Days had passed and today is Margarita's birthday. Kenji already sent me the dress yesterday with a new pair of black stilettos and a box that contains a set of expensive jewelries. He just texted me that he's going to fetch me before seven in the evening because the party wi start at exactly eight. I took a quick shower and fixed myself. I wore the dress, it is long and colored in pastel. The dress is very simple but it is screaming elegance and sophistication. I put the jewelry on my body and put on the five inches tall stiletto. Then I put a light make up on my bare face and let my hair fall perfectly on my shoulder. I sprayed the perfume in my whole body and plastered a smile on my face. I'm going to see her again and I don't know what will be her reaction. I bet she has no idea that I am coming. But whatever happens, I will face her with courage, confidence and intelligence. My father raised me to be a strong woman and I will show it to her. I am going to change her mind, I will make her like me at any cost. The doorbell rang and I know that it was Kenji. He is the only one who uses the doorbell thrice. I hurriedly walk down the stairs to open the door for him. Kenji showed me his manly and attractive smile. He leaned and kissed the tip of my nose before pulling me closer to him. "You look more beautiful than Aphrodite," he joked that almost made me laugh. "Don't flatter me too much, Love. I might believe you," I teased him but he just pinched my cheeks. "You really look beautiful to me and I'll bet that you will be the most pretty lady at the party. The dress I bought suits well and that necklace gives emphasis to your sexy collarbone." My cheeks heated up because of his praises. I am really lucky to have this kind of mind. "Let's go?" he asked politely and I nodded my head as a response. I locked up the door before linking arms with him. He carefully assisted me thru the car and made me sit comfortably inside the limousine. He sat beside me and snaked his left arm around my waist, he clinged to my body. After a few minutes of travelling, we already arrived at their mansion. I observed the place and everything looks expensive, it screams money and power. The whole place was lighted up with colorful lights and there's a classical music playing. All the guests look respectable in their suits and dresses, even the food are decorated with elegance. I was ashamed all of the sudden. I am overthinking again and I hate it. I hate that everyone slaps to my face that I do not belong here, I don't belong in their society. "What are you thinking? You're frowning," Kenji whispered to my ears. I immediately put a smile on my face and showed it to him. "I'm just intimidated by what I dee around me." He laughed happily and caressed my bare back. "Don't be, you are beautiful." We suddenly stop so I wondered what happened and when I look in front of me I saw his mother. Shock is written all over her face and I think every minute she will snapped out. "Good evening, Tita Margarita," I greeted her and let go of Kenji's arm before stepping forward so I can give her a hug. "What are you doing here?" she whispered to me with a smile on her lips. I let go of her immediately and put distance between us. "Kenji invited me," I said with a smirk on my face. Her eyes grew bigger and showed us her fake smile.
