Chapter 07: Spies and Assassins (1)

“Then I will take my leave, my master” - Czar said and yes I finally know his name. His name is actually quite long but I decided to call him by that nickname.

“Be careful” - I reminded him. He gave me a smile and then he disappeared right in front of me. As if the wind just blew his body away.

We formed the spirit-summoner contract that will last until I leave this world. He finally got his strength back and I can no longer feel the imbalance with his mana. At first I felt shock to know that he is no ordinary high ranking spirit, he is not like Undine or Sphero. He is higher than them, he is the damn Spirit King of the Ice Element.

And because he is the damn Spirit King, he just drained quite a lot of mana from my body. It’s not that I can’t handle him it’s just like I was shocked because Undine and Sphero did not get that much mana. The two high spirits controlled themselves not to drain too much. But Czar was different. I guess it is because it’s been almost a thousand years since he was able to get that mana and he was almost in the mere of disappearing.

He also honestly informed me that if I refused to form a contract with him, his body will immediately fade and the right to guard the forest and protect it will transfer to his relative which he does not trust. Because his relative is quite the greedy spirit also he said that he wants to transfer it to his disciple.

I just listened to his stories and opinions because although I have gained much knowledge regarding spirits, all I learned I believe was how to make a contract with them and how to form bonds and of course the rules.

“We will stop here for our lunch. This spot is definitely safe” - I heard Nox said and suddenly the door of the carriage I am riding opened.

“It’s time to eat Rae” - he said as he lend me his hand. I heave a deep sigh and even though I want to refuse and stay inside the carriage instead because I really feel tired I decided to still accept his hand and go out to have lunch with them.

Alam ko din kasi na kapag hindi ako lumabas ay mag-aalala sila. Pagkalabas na labas ko ng carriage ay akala ko agad kaming didiretso ni Nox sa pwesto kung nasaan sila mom at dad pero he just stood still on that place and his eyes are staring at me.

“What’s wrong? It seems like you are not in the mood.” - he said. See? Just like what I told you! He can easily sense if something’s wrong with me in one way or another.

“I’m fine Nox. This trip is just too long. I’d rather sleep on my bed. Speaking of which I miss my comfy bed” - I made an excuse half true and half lie. I do miss my bed and the trip is indeed long, I am not in the mood because I am tried and I rather rest and that is because my mana has been quite drained.

After a few second we started to walk towards our parents’ position

“Wait Nox” - I cut him off.

“What’s wrong Rae?” - biglang tanong ni Nox and before I could answer him we both heard rustling sounds. “Leaves?” - he asked again and I shook my head

Wind can’t make leaves rustle that way. And it isn’t even Autumn. During Summer winds are not that active that’s why we sweat more than the usual and because of that we wear short sleeve and not too long clothes.

“Spies” - we both said and I can see from my peripheral vision how Nox grit his teeth.

“I’ll get rid of them” - Nox said and I saw how he raised his right hand in attempt to use his magic.

[They mean no harm, they are from that disgusting place and they are just watching you. Tsk annoying bastards. If only I could kick them out or feed them to the goblins. But my time is so precious and they are not worth it] - I heard Czar’s voice on my mind which instantly made me hold the hand of my brother to stop him from killing them.

“They are from the Empire brother. I can sense that they are relaying what they see to the Emperor.” - When I said that, he looked at me with his eyes wide. He was shocked of what I had just said. *sigh* “ I made a contract with another spirit and he informed me that” - rason ko at nakita ko kung paano kumunot ang noo niya.

“Eclipse, Linox, let’s eat! You know how I hate making the food wait” - biglang sigaw ni mom. Napailing nalang kaming dalawa at naglakad na kami papunta sakanila at umupo nadin kami sa telang hinanda ni Alice para aming upuan.

“Let’s Eat” - dad said and before I took a bite of the sandwich Alice prepared, I suddenly heard my brother’s voice

“You better tell me how did you made contract with a spirit tsk.”

Dahil sa sinabi niya ay agad akong napangiwi. He will surely scold me later not to mention that he is way annoying than our mother when he nags at me.

Anyways, I just have to ready my ears. Lahat ng sasabihin niya ipapasok ko sa kanang tenga at ilalabas ko nalang sa kabila.

After a few more minutes we are back on our way towards the exit of the forest. Ashton said that we are only a few steps away so Nox decided to stay inside the carriage since there are no monsters attacking us.

A while back, goblins tried to abduct me. Well one actually pulled my arm. Actually, alam ko naman na naghihintay yun ng tamang pagkakataon para hilahin ang kamay ko. In a more concise term, sinadya kong ipahila ang kamay ko and let myself to be saved by my brother.

Bakit? Because of those damn spies that keeps following us around. I don’t want them to report to the emperor that I can fight and slay monsters. As I have said it will lessen the excitement of seeing the nobles and royals amazed faces.

*yawn*

I am getting sleepy because of this bumpy ride. Since Nox is already here inside our carriage, maybe I could take a nap. I am about to sleep when suddenly an unfamiliar jolt flowed in my body.

“I feel something weird” - Nox said which made me look at him.

“Me too”

“My instincts are telling me that something dangerous is waiting for us outside the forest” - Nox said again in a serious tone. Tumango ako bilang sang-ayon. Isa sa mga natutunan ko sa loob ng ilang taon sa pagtraining kung paano gumamit ng pana ay ang pagtiwala sa ‘instincts’. Instincts are considered to be a premonition so it is always been credible since it has been proven and tested throughout time.

And the Wynknight family has this strong gut feeling. Whenever they feel that they are in danger they will find out a little white that they are indeed in danger.

Nilabas ni Nox ang kanyang kamay and he rang the bell near him. The bell is used to call the knights near.

“Ashton, Alice,Luke stay sharp. There might be danger ahead so close to the carriage of our parents” - my brother said to them. His voice is not loud nor soft it was moderately controlled but when a stranger will hear it he will sound cold and indifferent but for the people who knew him he sounded like a cool serious guy that upholds to the title of the prince and the one next in throne.

“Roger your highness” - the three of them said and in a split second they already went to our parents’ carriage

“Do you want some of my magic Rae? You can use it to protect yourself” - Nox asked and a fire suddenly appeared on his hands.

As siblings, he can share a bit of his magic to me for five minutes. We’ve only done such thing for three times and it was quite effective to fool some of our enemies that I too am a mage and not a summoner.

And right now that too can be a great way in order to fool the spies and the Emperor. But also it can be a way for me to be accused of deceiving the great sun of the empires; the punishment? Well it’s death.

“No thanks Nox. You can perfectly handle all the scums outside so that I will not use my power right?” - nakangiti kong saad. And he too gave me a smile.

“Okay.” - he replied and before I could even start another conversation the carriage suddenly stopped from it’s tracks and when I look outside, we are finally out of the forest. And in a split second my view of the forest was blocked by a figure, the person was wearing black clothes that does not really fit the weather of our kingdom.

I decided to shift my gaze however it is the same. I can’t help myself but to heave a deep sigh of when I realize what is going on.

“We are surrounded by assassins Nox”
