Chapter 2: The Moment I Fell for Her

1348 Words
"Hey, Win! Don’t be late today, alright? It’s a big day for me!" Din Dan said to me as we were about to take the elevator down after class. "Win is never late, man. It’s you who’s always late, Din," Rachane quipped, throwing a teasing look at Din Dan. Rachane and Din Dan are my best friends. The three of us have known each other since we were kids because our parents are friends. But Din Dan also holds the additional title of being my brother-in-law since he’s dating my younger sister, May. As we stood in the elevator, I listened to the two of them banter back and forth. If anyone else were with us, they’d probably think these two were having a real fight. But I’ve gotten used to it; they’re like this all the time. Despite their constant teasing, they get along well. When the elevator stopped at the 7th floor, the doors opened, revealing a young woman. The moment I saw her face, it was as if she looked a little startled before glancing back at me. I’m not full of myself, but I swear she made eye contact with me too. She had fair skin with a pinkish hue, a face that leaned towards Chinese features, and she was wearing a student uniform with a long skirt that reached her knees. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail. I couldn’t stop staring; all I could think was, How could someone be this cute? "Are you coming in?" Rachane’s voice broke through my daze, snapping me back to reality. I immediately put on a neutral expression and looked away. The young woman didn’t reply but quickly stepped into the elevator. She didn’t press any buttons, so it seemed like she was heading to the first floor, same as us. I couldn’t help but watch her from behind, my gaze fixed on her until Din Dan nudged my arm with a teasing smirk. He must have figured out that I was interested in this girl. When the elevator reached the 5th floor, the doors opened, and a group of juniors from our faculty got in, pushing the young woman back until she ended up standing close to me. She was so short that the top of her head barely reached my shoulder. I have to say, besides her adorable face, she smelled amazing. "Sorry," she said, turning slightly to apologize. The moment our eyes met again, I felt like I could die from a heart attack—but obviously, I didn’t. My heart was pounding uncontrollably, and the more I looked at her, the stranger I felt. Out of nowhere, I had this absurd urge to grab her and kiss her right there. After apologizing, she turned away when I didn’t respond, probably because I was too stunned, staring at her face like an i***t. I’d never felt anything like this before—my heart racing, this overwhelming desire to kiss her. And to top it off, my body was reacting in ways I couldn’t control. Normally, I’m great at managing my emotions. Even when my ex-girlfriend stripped in front of me, I rejected her without feeling conflicted at all. My body didn’t even respond back then. But with this girl, just seeing her face and smelling her sweet scent—despite her showing no intention of flirting with me—was enough to completely throw me off balance. Who is she? I thought to myself. If she makes me this crazy, she has to take responsibility. With that thought, I smiled slightly. End of Part: Mawin Phlengkwan stood frozen, wishing the elevator would reach the first floor quickly. She felt uneasy being surrounded by so many men in such a cramped space. Normally, she never had to be this close to any man, and the situation left her feeling out of place. "Excuse me, what faculty are you from? You don’t look like an engineering student," asked a guy who had entered the elevator on the 5th floor. He smiled warmly as he spoke to her. "I’m in the Faculty of Education," Phlengkwan replied briefly, returning a polite smile out of courtesy. "Wow, what a lovely smile! You’ve completely melted my heart," another guy chimed in from the front, drawing the attention of his friends. They all turned to look at Phlengkwan, making her even more uncomfortable. "Are you single? Interested in dating an engineering guy? We’re great at taking care of everything, even… in bed," another man added smugly, looking her up and down with a flirtatious expression. Phlengkwan felt a surge of anger and wanted to snap at him, but she held herself back. She was alone in this situation and didn’t want to risk provoking a group of guys when she wasn’t sure how they’d react. "Stay in your place, or do you want me to add some color to that mouth of yours?" A deep, menacing voice came from behind her, startling her. The tone was sharp and angry, making her feel a pang of fear. Mawin, who had been silently observing, couldn’t hold back anymore after hearing his juniors harass the girl he had taken a liking to. His outburst shocked both Rachane and Din Dan, who stood frozen. Mawin was typically aloof, never involving himself in other people’s affairs. Yet here he was, defending a girl he didn’t even know, and doing so with uncharacteristic intensity. "Don’t push your luck. Now press the button and get out before I lose my patience," Mawin barked, his voice firm and commanding. The group of juniors turned pale, realizing they had crossed the line. They had been too focused on the girl to notice the third-year senior standing behind them—none other than Mawin, one of the faculty’s infamous discipline enforcers. His reputation for being strict and intimidating was well-known. "Sorry, senior! We didn’t know she was… your girl. We’re really sorry," one of the juniors stammered, bowing his head apologetically, too scared to meet Mawin’s gaze. "Leave now. You’re annoying me," Mawin growled, his words sharp as knives. Without hesitation, the group of juniors quickly pressed the button and exited on the 3rd floor, even though they had originally intended to go to the 1st. They were too afraid of what might happen if they stayed. As the elevator doors closed, Phlengkwan decided to follow them, thinking it was her presence that had caused Mawin’s annoyance. She also wanted to avoid being near someone whose voice had frightened her so much. "Where are you going?" Mawin asked, grabbing her arm before she could step out of the elevator. His brows furrowed as he questioned why she was trying to leave. "I was going to take the stairs. I thought you were annoyed by me and wanted me out. I’m sorry if I upset you," Phlengkwan replied, her gaze lowered, too nervous to look him in the eye. She heard him sigh heavily. "I wasn’t kicking you out—I was kicking out those juniors from my faculty. And why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything wrong. Just stay here and go down with me, alright?" Mawin’s voice softened, his tone so gentle and kind that it took her by surprise. It was a stark contrast to his earlier anger. Phlengkwan hesitated but eventually looked up, her eyes meeting his. "Do you understand?" Mawin asked again when she didn’t respond right away. "Yes, I understand. But… can you let go of my arm now?" she asked, her voice soft but steady. Phlengkwan usually wouldn’t let any man touch her so casually, but with this man, she had unknowingly allowed it. Mawin smiled faintly, releasing her arm as she requested. "Thank you for what you did earlier," Phlengkwan said. When the elevator finally reached the first floor, she turned to him, bowed in gratitude, and quickly ran out. Mawin stood there, watching her retreating figure, a smile lingering on his lips. Her innocence and sweetness were unlike anything he had ever encountered before, and they left him completely captivated.
