The white ceiling of the hospital room welcomes her eyes as soon as she opens it. From the high and expensive looking ceiling, she tried to move a bit and look around.
Three steps away from the hospital bed where she's lying. Ibixa sees her sister-in-law, sleeping. She's about to lean her back on bed's headrest when she remembers something.
She had a nightmare. She dreamt about her parents—their death to be exact. Ibixa sighed in relief, it's not true. She convinced herself. Even though she tries to shut out all the negative that's lingering in her mind, she couldn't fight them all.
They're torturing her.
"No. That's just a bad dream. My parents are live. They are doing well in Santiago," she whispered to herself, trying to compete with those little voices in her head.
Ibixa covered her ears. She folded her leg. Shaking her head constantly to ignore all the memories that's coming back to her.
"They're not dead!" Ibixa slapped herself and pulls her hair. "They're fine! It's just a bad dream, it's not going to happen---,"
"Oh my God, Ibixa!" Piper came to rescue her. She cages her wrist on her hand just so she could stop Ibixa from hurting herself. Her lips is quivering. Tears started to fall from her eyes. She couldn't control them.
"Ender! f**k it, Ender!" Piper shouted at the top of her lungs. "Help, Ibixa's awake!" briefly, the door opened. Ender shows himself. Piper move out of his way and let her brother do his job on calming her down.
"Ender, there's this voices in my head. They keep on reminding me that my parents were brutally killed." Ibixa tries to hit herself again but with his strength. She managed to stop her. Ender caged his wife on her arms. He carresses the small of her back as he whispered sweet nothings.
"Piper, call the Doctor," he demanded. Still shock, with everything that she just witnessed. Piper failed to move immediately. Ender needed to repeat himself with a louder voice just so he could make her sister move.
"Ender, tell me... Tell me that I'm just imagining things. I will see them again, right? They are safe and sound." Ibixa harshly grabs his coat and then her hands travelled to his face, cupping them.
"Please, let me see my parents one last time. I just wanna make sure that they are fine." Ender try to hush and hug her again but she pushes him away with all of her remaining strength.
"Listen to me---,"
"No! You listen to me, Ender. I want you to let me see my parents. I don't want your hugs. I want my Mommy, please." That silence him. For the first time in his life. He felt a spang of pain as he sees someone else misery.
Ibixa look hopeful and fragile. It seems to him that if he tells her the truth. She won't be able to accept it. She might lose her sanity.
Ender cupped her face and damp a feathery kiss on her forehead that is meant to give her comfort.
"They're dead. I'm sorry..." he whispered. Before she can react. Ender step behind so the Doctor can inject her a tranquilizer. Shortly, as the drug sipped in her system. Ibixa's grasp on his coat loosen and she fell asleep.
The Doctor and nurses quickly check her vitals and do some assessment. After making sure that everything about her is fine, the Doctor asks Ender to came with him outside for talk.
The hospital room closes. With trembling hands. Piper walks near Ibixa. She tucks her in bed and watches her sleep. Ibixa doesn't look peaceful at all. Even in her sleep, she looks sad. A tear slipped from her left eye. Before she could even wipe them away, she heard a creaking noise of the door that leads her eyes there.
Ender amble unto the couch, massaging the side of his head. "You should help your wife find her parents' murderer." Ender removes his hand from his temple then drop it at the sofa's armrest. Slowly, he opens his eyes and met her sister's gaze.
He blew a hard and exasperated air out of his body. "No. The nbi will handle their case. I'm not gonna meddle with their job. It's the authority's call, not mine."
"But, with all the agent and investigator that your organization have, everything will be easier---,"
"Shut up, Piper! This will be the last time we will talk about this and don't you ever tell her about our organization. Don't make me forget that you're blood of my blood," Ender said it like a curse, making the other Mendeleev trembles in fear. Piper licked her lower lips. She watches him with her scrutinizing eyes.
Ender look tense and uncomfortable. It's like he's uncertain about something.
He stood up from the sofa to get himself a glass of wine. When he's about to drink it. Piper gasped violently that garnered his attention. He puts the glass back on the mini table and throw her sister a dagger look.
"Tell me you didn't... you cannot do this to her, right? This is not your doing. Ender, please... tell me." He glances at her wife who's still in her deep slumber, thanks to the tranquilizers.
"I don't have reason to get them killed. And if I ever have one, I wouldn't wait for years. I must have done that the same day I took Ibixa from them. I have nothing to do with their death," he said, denying her sister's unreasonable accusation.
Piper looks relief. She smiles timidly and nodded her head. She took her bag and fix the strap of it. Seconds passed. She couldn't help but glance at Ibixa and Ender simultaneously. Ender is something. He isn't good but he never lies, and now that's the only thing that is keeping her bad thought of Ender away.
He's brutal and ruthless but once he says he didn't, it's the true and she's hoping that it's still the same.
