I'm so happy while we are inside the huge chariot. I don't think anything could spoil my mood right now. It's been an hour since we left the White Dragons House, and I am starting to see houses instead of trees.
I look out of the window once more. I think huge houses are around here so there are no people around.
Gosh, I'm looking forward to new faces!
Good thing, half an hour later, we arrive at the central, Shane told me that it is the busiest place around here and there were a lot of people outside.
When Sir Betram opened the door for me, I come out of the chariot right away.
I roam my eyes around and I see girls wearing pretty dresses, there are boys looking so fine, and the stores are so inviting too! I saw some stalls selling delicious foods, I wanted to try those!
But I noticed how some look in our direction, was it because of the exceptionally huge chariot?
Anyways, that's not my concern now! I have to look around and enjoy this day!
"Shane! Tour me around!" I said full of glee.
Shane shakes her head, but she just goes with whatever I'm asking.
While we were walking, I observed that the knights were not following us.
"Shane, where are Sir Betram and the others?" I asked her while my eyes are roaming around.
"They are just around and following us, they are like that because they wanted to let you enjoy this day like a normal person."
Oh. Then, I will really really make sure to enjoy this day!
I saw the stall that I was eyeing the moment I went out of the chariot, I pointed it to Shane because I wanted to try that food.
"Let's go there, Shane! Please!"
I could see in his eyes that she was not willing to do what I wanted to happen, "But, my lady—"
"I just wanted to try it, for sure it's not poisoned, look," I turn my head towards the direction of the stall while pointing it, "the kid is even eating the food from that, it's impossible that it will cause me harm!"
I can't help but smile widely when I saw Shane nodded.
Yes!
I walk towards the stall happily, I am even hopping because of gladness!
"Good day, Sir! Can you give me one of those?"
He gave me a genuine smile, "Here is for you because Miss!"
I gladly accepted the food. It is in different colors, it was like small round rice cakes on a stick.
"Wow! It looks delicious!" I said as I give him one coin.
"Oh, lady, that is only two silver coins!"
I blink two times when he said that. That's cheap! I remembered Sir Adalius's lessons, as far as I know, foods in this world are cozy. But anyways, his lessons must be for the elites.
"Just keep it, Sir."
I smiled as I took a bite of the food.
"It's delicious, so it deserves one gold coin!"
He smiled at me and was about to speak when someone buy from him.
"Give me one too."
That's a very familiar voice...
I look up and I saw the side profile of Donovan, he is wearing a semi-transparent veil from the middle of his nose towards his neck, the fabric is smooth, it was actually good for laces. But that's not the point, why is the Crown Prince of Vanzelion here?
"Sure, young Lord. Here is one for you."
The vendor gave him the food, and he gave him one gold coin like what I did.
"Keep it," Donovan said using his deep voice.
He looks at my eyes after that.
"You can recognize me."
I can't help but roll my eyes, of course! Who wouldn't! That only happens in dramas! I mean, seriously, I can clearly notice his thick eyebrows and deep dark eyes. His features are that noticeable.
"What are you doing here, Crown—"
"Call me Gaige."
That's his second name. Even in this world, his face and name are alike.
His eyes went towards mine and I couldn't look away from his intense stares.
But why does fate seems to let their path cross? The very little chance to meet him here, of all places, of all time, but look how fate erases the tiniest probability...
"My lady, should we go to other places?"
Lovely! Good thing, Shane interrupted our stares towards each other.
Several times I blinked consciously at what I had done. Seriously, Elora Ember, I thought you wanted to ignore him, why are you suddenly having a staring contest with the person who hurt you the most?
I sighed as I walk with Shane.
Alright! No one should spoil this day!
"Let's try to go to that shop, Shane!"
I pointed to the bookstore.
"Oh, our pumpkin, you never really change," she held my face after saying that.
Oh. I remember, Elora is a bookish person, just like me in my last life. But I tried hard to change because a boring personality won't really help me survive. However, I'm happy with who I am now, happy and finally trying things outside my comfort zone.
When we enter the bookstore. The acoustic music greeted us. When I look around, I saw that there is a little stage for the guitarist, it's kind of soothing so it elevate the ambiance of the place.
I think nothing is more heaven than a place full of books.
Like wow! It's beautiful! I think, if Papa allows me to go out occasionally, I will visit this place again and again. Books are just a haven.
My smile will never leave my face when I'm at this place.
"Shane, I'll just look around..." I whispered and she nodded as a reply while looking at the books in front of her.
I walk silently to look for an interesting book. I was just about to pass one of the rows when I saw a child struggling to reach one of the books. She's around five or six.
I approached her and picked up the book she wanted to reach. I gave it to her with a smile, she smiled back at me and her eyes immediately turn to the book for children.
I noticed that her breathing is shallow and rapid, must be because she's been reaching that book miserably.
She coughs slightly while reading the book.
I leave the kid there to look for a good book to read for myself. When I saw an old-looking book at the corner, I read its blurb and it was about the death of a very beautiful lady, but the man she was once in love with never moved on so he seeks revenge and became the worst person he can become just to give justice to her death.
I read the first three pages, and surprisingly, I enjoyed it. I am not a romantic person but the book is very interesting.
"Luisa! Oh my goodness! My daughter!"
I let go of the book in shock, it fell at my feet and it cause a loud thud because the cover is hard.
My feet move on their own and I run towards where the cry is coming from.
I saw a mother sitting on the floor beside the child she was with a few minutes ago.
The child is sweating badly and as I observe her more, I can see that she is having difficulty breathing. I sit in front of them to touch the child and she is really cold.
"What happened?" I asked the mother.
Confused and scared she answered me, "I-I don't know, Luisa suddenly experience nausea and she started vomiting," she cried.
I look at where the child is facing and there is really vomit there. Luisa's back is on me so I didn't see that right away.
Oh gosh...
"Please let her face me."
The Mother, even though she is baffled, carries the child and lets her sit facing me.
I held her fingers, and I saw that it's turning bluish, when I look at her lips, it's bluish too.
I tried to feel her temperature and it's really high!
What symptoms is this...
Think Elora Ember!
"My lady! What happened!"
My concentration became worse when Shane suddenly appeared.
Bluish fingertips, bluish lips...
high fever...
cough...
I look at the child once more.
She's vomiting and experiencing difficulty in breathing and nausea...
OH!
Oh gosh! I don't have any medicines with me, even first aid! She needs to see a healer right away!
It's very hard to identify if she has influenza, a cold, or pneumonia, but clearly, if it's one of those, this can become a life-threatening situation.
"Shane, call Sir Betram. We need to go to the nearest hospital."
"E-Eh? But I can't leave you—"
"This is an emergency, Shane!"
I felt so sorry that I shouted but the kids' life is in danger right now.
"Lady... we don't have money for the bills, maybe herbal plants will help my daughter..."
"I'm so sorry but we need a healer for you daughter, Mother. Don't worry, I will pay the bills for you."
She cried and thanked me.
When Sir Betram arrived, I explained the situation and he quickly carry the child and we run towards where we left the chariot.
Losing my poise, I run fastly so I can catch up, I swear Shane almost fainted as she saw me running around, unladylike.
"Slow down, my lady!" she shouted but she as well is running fastly like me.
I almost screamed when someone grab my arm but when I saw who it was my eyes widened.
"What was that, Do— Gaige!"
My irritation is hitting the heavens.
"I'm sorry, but why are you in hurry?"
"We have to go to the nearest hospital, can you please let me go now?"
"Are you hurt?" his thick eyebrows furrowed.
I take away his hand that was holding my arm.
"No, a child fell ill."
I run away after that. Shane is eyeing me suspiciously, it's because she witnesses my encounters with that guy. I wonder why she didn't even recognize him, it's clear that he is the crown prince.
When we were inside the chariot with the mother and the child, I asked Shane.
"Where is the nearest hospital around? I told Sir Betram to go there."
Shane thought for a moment.
"Oh, the hospital for the common people. It's the nearest around here. But my lady," she suddenly showed concern, "They only have few healers, I hope they aren't busy with other ill patients."
I studied about that, usually, they only have two.
When we arrived at the hospital, it looks like a huge building but with Victorian architecture.
When we got inside, sir Betram was carrying the child. The moment hospital staff saw us, they took care of us immediately.
"This way, Lords and Ladies."
I think I can finally breathe in relief when Luisa had her own bed. I walk towards one of the staff to ask.
"Lady, where is the healer here?"
"I'm sorry, lady, but our healers are currently treating some of the patients on the above floor, those who are on this floor are already in the fifth batch.
Fifth batch...
I look at Sir Betram who was also looking at me. He walks towards me when he saw the worry in my eyes.
"Is there anything we could do, the child really needs a healer right now."
The staff sighed, "I'm sorry, lord, lady, but we can only give her some medicines for now."
Is this serious...
"Maybe I can help the healers above? I am also knowledgeable about medicine, please..."
The staffs are doubtful and I am not sure how to convince them either.
"She is Elora Ember Fleyr, the daughter of Duke Dallas Caspian Fleyr. You can trust her."
We all look at the newcomer. What is Donovan doing here again? He is really following me!
He is still wearing the veil, but I can see his eyes clearly, it is full of curiosity.
"Duke Fleyr?" the staffs look at each other.
Suddenly, one of them nodded to me.
"Let's go above, Lady Fleyr. We will see if we can do something."
I look at Donovan's side, I caught him looking at me, I gave him a smile to show my gratitude and I turn my body to walk after the staff of the hospital.
When we reach the upper floor. I saw the situation there, two of the healers are trying to do something to a patient who looks like was stabbed by a knife, the other is unknown since I don't know which symptoms she had.
"How many hours does it take curing that?" I asked the staff as I pointed the one with a stab.
"It will take another two hours when he's being healed straight, but since our healer will exhaust his power, it will take another hour. The situation is very bad here, to be honest, Lady Fleyr. Healer Halo is just a new sprout healer and he's still trying to get used to his power so he's taking too long. The other one is already a veteran but her healer power is not as strong as the others."
That's really bad. What should I do...
I look at Healer Halo, that's what the staff called him, he is trying his best to heal the stab wound.
"Do you have any materials or tools here whenever there's really an emergency and the healers are busy?"
Forehead crease, the staff nodded.
"Please bring it to me."
Confused and doubtful, the other staff still walk away from my request. And when he came back, he already have the tools they are talking about.
When I look at it, and the victim that was a stab, I think I can have an operation here with these...
"Please allow me to operate that stabbed patient instead."
"What?! No, Lady Fleyr! Life is at stake here, I'm sorry but this is not a child's play."
My eyebrows almost curl up when he said that but I remain my composure.
"Then, you two watch me and assist me while I'm doing it. I swear, trust me with this, I am confident with my skills."
"But—"
"Please, I will take responsibility for this."
Sighing, they nod their head. One of the staff walk towards Healer Halo. I only noticed it now, but the healers' uniform here is weird but unique. They are wearing a hooded cape.
The staff whisper something to Healer Halo that made him stop from what he was doing. He look on my side and our eyes met.
Oh. He is handsome. I purse my lips. He looks strict and serious too.
My eyes widened when he started to walk towards me.
"Kid, you need to go down and wait, this place is not a playground."
Feeling so offended, my eyebrows almost meet each other, "I am not a kid and I'm already fifteen, Sir."
"Someone five years younger is a child in front of my eyes. Go down and don't disturb us, I'm busy working."
My mouth gape because of how rude he is!
OH GOSH, I WANTED TO PULL HIS HAIR!
"Wait!" I grab his arm.
He turns his body, facing me, his eyebrows are furrowed.
"Please trust me on this one, I can really operate a person. Do you know asthma? Heart attack? I named those things, I even provided the diagnosis, symptoms, anything related to that. You see? I am knowledgeable in this field."
Oh gosh, I felt really bad for the physicians that explained asthma. I swear, the Greek physician who was called Aretaeus of Cappadocia, please don't hate me for doing this, I am just trying to save a life. Also for Hippocrates, I'm so sorry.
To all the physicians who explained heart attack, I hope they won't stand up from their grave because of the rubbishes I'm saying. I'm really guilty!
"You are Elora Ember Fleyr?"
I nodded my head, hoping I convinced him somehow.
"Make sure you do a good job, if something goes wrong, its means you killed the victim."
Killed?! My eyes widened. But I calm down as I realized that he just wanted to scare me. Maybe, he wanted me to take responsibility if anything happens.
"Fine! But please, you will see someone downstairs, she's at the last bed, heal her."
He stares at me for a while.
"Fine."
And that is my first ever operation in this world, with no proper tools and materials, but still a success.
