Chapter 12

1024 Words
It's been two days since Herdon and Cassandra moved to their house. They already have a maid whose name is Fatima. "I'm really happy that we're home now," Herdon said while sitting on a couch with Cassandra. They are watching TV while having a coffee. It is their second night there. "Me, I'm still worried," Cassandra replied. "About the guys?" he pointed out. "Yeah..." Cassandra exhaled, "what are we going to do now? I mean... This is a plan, going home, right?" she faced Herdon, "but seems not right. Because honestly, how the hell they'll get here without being monitored or suspected? You sad that Inspector Clay was really into our case so before those guys made the exchange, Inspector Clay will interrupt," she explained, while her eyes were on the TV. Herdon turned off the TV before answering Cassandra, "We don't have anything to do but to wait for them to show up. It's the plan," he said in a calm voice, "and Inspector Clay was not calling me anymore. Maybe he found out something and that he was trying to solve it all. So let's not worry about him in the meantime," he said while holding Cassandra's hands. "I'll just go take a bath," Cassandra did not comment on Herdon's answer. It looks like she's not contented with his answer. She pulled her hand on Herdon's. Herdon just nodded without looking at her. When Cassandra went upstairs, he called on Fatima who was in the kitchen, "Fatima," his low voice was enough for Fatima to hear him. Fatima is older than him and Cassandra and it's what they requested. They wanted a maid older than them. Fatima came out from the kitchen holding a spatula, "Yes sir?" smiling at Herdon. "I don't think my wife is in a mood to eat dinner. Prepare food only for me. I'll be right there," he demanded. Given Cassandra's reaction before going upstairs, he knew that she won't be eating again just like the other night. The only reason they keep on talking was about the guys. He's pressured also but he's trying to be patient. It is for their own good so he will do anything even if it cost his life. "Okay sir, I understand," Fatima walked back into the kitchen. Herdon let out a sigh after then stood up. He unplugs the TV cord before going into the kitchen. "You can rest now, Fatima. Just wash the dishes tomorrow. I know you were tired for the past two days of cleaning the house," he said in a very kind manner. Fatima smiled. "I would love to, sir. But let me wait for you so I can clean the table before we all sleep," she replied. "It's okay, Fatima. I can help myself out," Herdon insisted. Fatima did not persist anymore. She just thanked Herdon after excusing herself. Herdon ate alone and did not try to call Cassandra for he believes that she will just say no. Cassandra was still in the bathroom. She wanted to tell Herdon not to continue with their little plan. But as she observed, Herdon wanted to pursue it. Aside from that, there was a feeling that she doesn't want to stay here anymore. She feels like their house is something to avoid. She was thinking too much when she heard the door slammed. "Hey, is that you?" most damn question she thinks. Fatima always knocks, so it means that Herdon is the one who slammed the door. But it's unusual. Herdon won't do that. Not without a good reason. "Hon?" she called again. When no one answered, she felt uncomfortable or scared. She pulled her towel and hurriedly wrapped it in her body. There are still bubbles in her body and on her hair too. She takes a deep breath before opening the shower door. When she stepped out, she saw that their bed is still empty. "Hon..." Cassandra called again. But still, no answer. Her feet are wet so she slowly walks to their bed. As she looks around, she can tell that Herdon is not there. And when he turned to the door, it was closed. She left it open and now it is closed. Meaning, she really heard the door slammed while she's in the bathroom. Cassandra held her towel tightly. She doesn't know what to do. She wanted to run but she feels like her feet is not cooperating. She can hardly hear her heartbeats. The windows are already closed but she can feel the wind from outside and she's having goosebumps because of it. 'What is this...' she told herself. She's still standing there when the door suddenly opens... She was uneasy. She's sweating. She thinks she will pass out anytime. "Hey..." Her knees were shaking when she saw Herdon at the door. She felt relieved but she almost cried. How she wished Herdon bluffed her or pranked her. "What happened?" Herdon hurriedly went to her. He was worried and wondering at the same time. Cassandra's tears fell. It just means that Herdon has nothing to do with what she experienced. "I-I don't know..." Cassandra sobs. She doesn't know what to say to her husband. She doesn't know if he will believe it. Herdon hugged her, comforting her. He helped her get to their bed. "Hon, please... Tell me what happened?" Herdon tried to ask her again, "I am worried. So please, tell me so I know what to do," he declared. "C-can you help m-me finish my shower..." Cassandra said instead. Herdon noticed that she was shivering. He thought that it was because she's still wet. Looks like she just runs out of the bathroom. "Okay..." he smiled trying to calm her. Herdon took care of her inside the bathroom. He keeps on asking but Cassandra remains silent. "You want to visit your parents tomorrow?" Herdon asks, suggesting. Cassandra nodded before lying down. Herdon decided not to talk anymore especially that Cassandra won't tell a thing. All he knows is she was having difficulty moving in there. He was thinking that she just misses her parents so he suggested visiting them tomorrow.
