CHAPTER #2.

I headed to my room and continued reading the book. “It’s difficult to find where they are because they’re hiding from people.” “But if you follow what’s written on the map, you’ll find them.” I looked at the map and checked the end of it. “Evander… Are you dragons there?” I returned my gaze to the book and kept reading the words written there. “They may be fierce and terrifying, but if you gain their trust, they are kind.” I remembered what dragons looked like in the books I read about them, and the wooden statue made by Ezekiel’s father. And I also remembered what Ezekiel said. “Of course Papa will come back, that’s why I’m preparing to travel and look for him.” “You’re leaving?” I asked. “Yes, I’ll look for Papa and prove to them that he’s not crazy he’s just in a place where he’s enjoying himself.” Ezekiel will leave the kingdom to travel. He gets to do that, while I… I looked out the window. The sun was high, and I was sure the soldiers were exhausted and burning from the heat, yet none of them were giving up. They will fight for our kingdom. “For the kingdom.” I grabbed paper and a pen, wrote a letter, and addressed it to Lady Rosalie. Two days passed. I could hardly eat with my family because they were busy. My older brother was also mad at me just earlier I ran into him and he blamed me. “This is your fault.” “Noah, if I leave the kingdom, will you come with me?” I asked as I sat by the veranda drinking tea. “Like before? Because you might do something weird again,” Noah said. I smiled. “Right, I’m going to do something weird again.” I don’t know when the war will happen, but everyone is preparing me included. I’ve already decided what I want to do. I am the reason for this war. Brother was right… many lives will be lost if this continues. “Another message arrived earlier a huge threat from the king of the Loan Kingdom,” Father said. Finally we were all at the dining table together again, and this was my chance. “I told you, Father, they won’t back down,” Dave said. “Why do you keep pushing what you want, Dave?” my sister said irritably. “Why do you insist on hiding Laven? She only has one job to do marry that king,” Kuya said. My fist tightened because he’s right. And it is for the kingdom’s sake. “Dave, she’s our sister we’re talking about.” “That’s enough, Dave, Loren,” Mother intervened. I stood, and they all looked at me. “Kuya is right,” I said. “Wait, Laven. No, that’s not possible. You’re our youngest, and we can win this war,” Mother said. “But many will die.” “And you’d rather go to them?” Ate Loren said. “Enough, it looks like Laven agrees with me because I’m right. There will be no war if you give Laven to that old king,” brother said arrogantly. “But…” Father said. “No innocent people will suffer, and no one will die in the war, because I will fight.” They were shocked by what I said. “Wait, Laven,” Mother said. “Are you out of your mind, Laven? You can’t even kill a mosquito! How will you fight?” my sister said. “I know. You raised me to be a perfect princess. And I’m not fighting alone… I’ll go find them…” They went quiet and listened. “The dragons. I’ll find the dragons and fight in the war,” I said proudly. “Laven,” Mother whispered. “Enough of your nonsense, Laven. Tomorrow, prepare yourself you’ll be sent to the other kingdom to stop this war,” brother said. “No, Dave. Laven stays here.” They argued as if I hadn’t said a word. They didn’t believe me. Of course the dragons are just legends, and they know I’ve always been obsessed with them, so they won’t believe me. I pulled out the scissors I brought and cut my long black hair. “Princess!” a maid screamed. Everyone looked at me, shocked. “Laven, what are you doing?!” Mother said angrily. “I’ll prove to you that they’re real.” I looked at brother. “On the day of the war, or before it even begins, I will return with them and prove to you that they exist.” No one spoke. I simply left and went to my room. I changed clothes, grabbed my prepared things, and left. When I stepped outside, I saw Noah. I smiled. “You said you’d go with me wherever I go, since I always do something weird,” I said. Noah smirked and exhaled sharply. “Just make sure we come back.” My eyes sparkled Noah agreed. We headed out and mounted our horses. I had already sent letters to the two people I wanted to bring with me, so when we reached the main gate of the kingdom, Noah and I waited. “They won’t look for me?” I asked, staring at the palace. “You ran away and you expect them to look for you?” Noah said. Okay, fair point. Noah talked to the guard while we waited for our companions, but after a long time, they still hadn’t arrived. So Noah and I decided— “I’m here anyway,” Noah said. “You’re right, I’m not alone.” The gate opened and we heard a bell from the palace they must have just realized I left, probably because they didn’t believe I could actually do it. “The soldiers move fast let’s go before they catch us,” Noah said. I nodded and we rode out of the gate. When we left, I looked up at the sky. Finally, I was outside the Lander Kingdom, and starting today, I would travel beyond its borders. “Laven!” someone yelled. “This is your fault! Why did it take you so long?!” a man’s voice complained. I looked at them. “Did you think I’d leave without preparation?” The two of them continued riding until they reached us. “The soldiers are coming let’s go!” Rosalie shouted. I looked at Noah. He nodded, and we followed them. A cold breeze met us as we rode farther and farther from the Lander Kingdom. None of us knew what would happen on this journey it was all a sudden decision. And I could already imagine traveling side by side with dragons. ********
