4. Fight Back

"Is someone in there?" I blinked, hearing a male voice from the other side of the door. I didn't know if Karla was still out there goofing up with me. But I chose to answer back to that voice, nevertheless. "Um... y-yes. I'm still in here, trapped." Shortly, the knob clicked and the door was shoved open, revealing a tall figure of a male with broad shoulders. He had a flashlight in his hand but I couldn't see his face properly since it was quite dark. "What are you doing in the library at this time of the night?" he asked, looking down at me. When I didn't answer, he moved forward and walked through the bookshelves. I followed him with my eyes. "What are you searching for?" I called out. "Checking the breakers!" After seconds of creaking sound of metal, the lights came back. It blinded me that I had to close my eyes for a while. "You okay?" Slowly, I cleared my eyes and looked up at the man. Now, it was so bright, I could totally identify him - warm brown eyes, dark curly hair, sharp jawline. He was frowning yet still very handsome. "Mr. Modino?" He tilted his head at me. "Now what are you doing here? The library is closed for the students about four hours ago." I opened my mouth but no words came out. What would I tell him? That I went to the library because I had a scheduled chess match? Would he believe me? Of course, no. Especially that Karla was nowhere to be found. That stinker. I swear, I wouldn't allow her to bully me again! "I'm sorry, Mr. Modino. I'm here to make a research about my lesson and didn't notice the time," I sighed. He studied me for a while and exhaled. "Okay. Next time keep track of the time. What if I didn't climb here on the fourth floor? You'll stay here all night!" "Yes. Promise." I nodded and walked out of the study room. He locked the door and followed me as I stepped down the stairs. "What's your name? You are unfamiliar to me." I know you very well. You were all around when I attended the chess try-out! "I'm Quinn Alcantara. Transferee. Grade twelve. Section two." He raised his brows. "Oh, you're a new student. That's the reason why you are not familiar with the library rules." "Yes. I think so." Fighting the urge to smile, I stared at my feet when we arrived at the ground floor. Now I realized, I was still lucky because he found me. Mr. Modino was my crush since the first time I saw him in the audition. Now my madness towards Karla was gone eventually because of him. Though that didn't mean I would let Karla go under my nerves again. "I'll go ahead, sir. Again, thank you." He was texting while standing on the front door. When I said goodbye, he paused and raised his head. "Okay. Be careful outside the school. Are you going home alone?" I nodded and looked down at my empty phone. "I think my driver left already. He didn't know I went into the library." His dark brows contacted. "Meaning you are alone." I didn't answer. If he could just let me borrow his phone, then I would call my driver. But unexpectedly, he said, "You don't have to call him." He put his phone into his satchel bag. "I'll drive you to your home." _______ GOING to school the next day was never been so exciting. After Mr. Modino brought me to my house, it seemed like the school I was attending became a fantasy land, heaven even. His thoughtfulness was a big turn on. He said, it was dangerous for such a young and pretty lady like me to stroll down the streets. When will I'm going to see him again? Or do I have to visit the library just to make that happen? I giggled to the thought of his warm eyes gleaming with delight as I got out of his car last night until I went inside my gate. Oh, my! Does he like me too? "Quinn!" I startled when somebody called my name. I swiveled to its direction and my eyes narrowed to the sight of Karla and her friends strolling towards me. Great. Back to reality. I scanned around and realized I was in the lobby already. I wanted to ignore Karla and just march directly to my classroom. But hell, it was too late because Karla poked me. "Yo, Quinny!" Not looking back at her, I mumbled, "You know what, how I wish I will not be able to see you. Even just for a day." "Oh, too bad. Our classroom is just next to your classroom." "Yeah, unfortunately, " I sighed. Karla smiled sweetly, walking around me. "So, how was your stay in the library suite?" I glared at her. It seemed like she wanted to start the fire again. Fine, I would play her game. But this time, I would win. I soften my gaze. "It's good in there... like in the five-star hotel. And you know what? I can't wait to sleep there again." I mentally grinned as her eyes widened in amazement. However, my blood was starting to boil. Don't she dare touch me. One hit from her again and I swear, I would fight her! "Wow, Quinny, I really don't know where that valor is coming from. Are you really not scared of us? You are alone. You don't have friends. While I am respected. And my angels got my back," she proudly said, looking at her group. "Then the crown is all yours since you are the ultimate winner. No complaints," I rolled my eyes and turned to my back. "Don't you dare turn your back on me or else I'll pull your hair one by one!" "Bring it on!" I snorted and continued to stomp away. "What?" "Blah, blah!" I waved my hand. When I stepped into my classroom, I felt a painful burning sensation on my scalp. Before I knew it, I was being yanked out of the door by my hair. I was confused, but then the hurt that prickling in my head just made my blood boiled and explode like lava when I realized the hand on my hair belonged to Karla. "You think you can get away with this, ragdoll? No one disrespects me ever!" I was too stunned to even know that we were already inside the comfort room while Karla continued to grasp my hair. Her friends locked the door and snickered... like they were watching a comedy movie. I've had enough of this s**t, Karla. Now you're dead! "The hell with you, Karla!" I'd got the chance to grab her arm. I didn't waste any chances so I bit her hand. That made her scream and let go of my hair. "How dare you bite my hand!" She almost cried, squeezing her hand where I imprinted my set of teeth. "That's nothing compared to what you do to students, bull!" I hissed. She glared at her friends and pointed at me. "Why are you just staring at her like dumb potatoes. Avenge me!" Before they could make a move, I pulled the head of a hose connected to the faucet next to my knees and aimed at them. "You don't have to beg, sweethearts. Because I'll ruin your clothes anyway!" I shouted at them then twisted the hose head and the water from it drizzled to them as if it was killing a fire. "This is for locking me in the library!"
