The Immortal Alpha

ARTHUR DRACO My legs weakened as I slumped on my knees by her side. My wolf howled scratching at anything to ease the overwhelming ache that consumed my soul. “You said you will wait for me. I have come back safe and alive, Maria. But why…” I surveyed her pale face, glared at the bites of the wolves all over her body, and lost it all when I saw her legs bleeding with the blood of our unborn twin children. They drained her of her blood. Made sure survival is not possible for them. And on top of that, they defiled her. My precious pure luna was tainted by those f*****g wolves! “Maria…” I collapsed kneeling beside her corpse, my clenched hands on my lap that can’t seem to reach for her body. “My luna…” My trembling hand caressed her cold face that was once full of warm smiles for me. Her dead blue empty eyes stared back, sending me back to the moment I found her dancing and laughing around with the other girls in the ceremony beside the lake under the full moon. To the blissful moment when I saw her beautiful face for the first time. I vowed to protect her, to offer her my life but look what happened. Look what I let happen! “No!” I howled into the dead of the night clutching her lifeless body into my arms. “I can't survive without you. You know I can’t live without you, Maria.” Wolves rarely cry. Alphas cannot afford to cry. It’s unheard of in the entire history of werewolves. But at that moment, I shed tears. I’m hurting all over and yet, I don’t know where. Everything is pulsating, gnawing at my being. I felt numb but I am aching. I caressed her face and kissed her cold lips that were once warm for the very last time. I only want peace for me, for my pack, for my Maria, and our unborn kids. But they decided to take it all from me. Violently. In the cruellest way possible. And for the first time since I founded my pack, I felt a great sense of bloodlust for revenge that no one can quench. I buried Maria’s remains in her garden in the yard of the castle where she used to knit mittens for our twins. “You’re as beautiful as the first time I laid my eyes on you,” I kissed her icy lips for the last time and closed her coffin before lowering it to the ground. Emman put a hand on my shoulder knowing that my anguish is beyond reprehensible anymore. “Alpha, just say the word and we will be with you whatever you intend to do.” My eyes glinted in callous murder when I passed my order to my legion of wolves who were as devastated as me. “We are going to the temple.” Emman looked confused. “Are you going to pray, Alpha Arthur?” Prayers? f**k that! That did not save my luna and my pups! “They will have to pray for their god to save them from my wrath,” I muttered in gritting teeth. I marched with my pack into the heart of the forest where the temple of the goddess is lodged. It's a safe place for every werewolf in the plains but they should pay the ultimate price because they just committed the greatest crime of heist in history. They took my luna away from me. “Set fire to the temple and kill all the priestesses of the moon goddess!” I growled at them passing the torches that crackled against the blood moon. “Kill all of them!” “Kill all the priestesses!” They shifted into their wolves, unleashing a siege to the temple burning the altars and killing every priestess they saw. “What are you doing?!” Alma, the head priestess of the moon goddess dashed to me. “Alpha Arthur, this is the holy place for the moon goddess. Any form of fight is f*******n here. Order your army to stop this murderous act now!” Instead of obeying, I grabbed her neck and pinned her to the wall, my eyes flaming in fury. “You told me that the moon goddess blesses me. You gave me hope that if I go to that war, we will finally have peace after. Why did you lie to me?! My luna is now dead because of you and because of your f*****g god!” Her face hardened as if it’s not her fault. “It’s the moon goddess’ will. You have no right to question her.” I clenched my jaws, tightening my grip around her neck. “But I have the power to break your neck now.” “This is blasphemy! Leave while you are still not being cursed!” “Cursed?” I grinned bitterly. “I am not just cursed! I’m already dead! Your f*****g god took everything from me. The only reason for my existence is already gone! Your f*****g moon goddess took her from me!” I looked at the chaos I made in the place and took a deep breath. My luna is a believer, always praying to the moon goddess in this temple but her devotion didn’t do anything to her. Her god didn’t protect her. “Tell your f*****g moon goddess that I want my luna back! I want my mate back!” Alma struggled against my steely hold. “I’m sorry but that is not possible, Alpha Arthur.” The light in my eyes died again. “Then it’s also not possible for you to live anymore,” I said as I plunged the silver sword right into her heart and watched life escape her eyes. “Burn everything and kill everyone!” Flames ravaged the temple drowning the wails of pain while my wolves were massacring every living thing they encountered. “f**k you!” I screamed at the melting altar of the moon goddess. “I will hunt all of your priests and kill each one of them until you bring my luna back to me!” The rain suddenly poured out and a powerful lightning struck me and caught my body consuming every nerve inside me. I crawled into the mud and closed my eyes letting out a bright smile while seeing Maria in my head. When I woke up, the temple was already burned down to the ground as well as my entire pack who had perished under the lightning storms. Dragging myself back into the castle, I curled beside the grave of Maria and wept. “My existence is nothing without you, Maria.” I hugged her tombstone and kissed the soil on top of it. I lost everything now. I lost her, our pups, and my whole pack members. My life has no meaning anymore without her. Everything I see is black and white. There were no colors in my world without her in it. I took out a dagger laced with wolfsbane, a known poison lethal to wolves, and stabbed it straight into my heart. I retched out blood, saw the stars dancing before my very eyes, and smiled to myself. “My love, I’m coming to see you,” I whispered and plunged the knife deeper into my heart. Only to wake up an hour after very much alive. I took the silver dagger again and killed myself over and over again but I always surged back to life after losing consciousness for a while. For someone like me, death is the greatest gift. But the heavens failed to hear my pleas. “Is this how you punish me?!” I roared into the sky when I woke up alive next to my mate’s grave that is now covered with snow. Seasons changed but my wretched heart is still grieving for my dead luna and I don’t think I will be over her. Not at all. Not in millenia. Not in forever. “After all I've been through?!” I raked the knife against my chest full of scars and marks. “I protected your kind! I accepted your rogue children and fed them as much as I could! I did everything your priestess told me in exchange for peace! In exchange for the safety of my luna!” “Please, just bring her back to me!” I knelt on my knees desperate to be given my wish. “Give me back my luna that you mercilessly took from me!” But no one answered me. No one, not even death. That is how I existed for months and years. I will close my eyes, pierce my chest with the knife hoping it would end everything only for me to wake up the next morning. But in every attempt I made to free myself from the insurmountable sadness of being alone in the world, I always ended up disappointed. Until I accepted the fact that I can never be forgiven. One day, I sniffed her scent again and I rushed into her grave imagining she would come out from it. Which didn’t happen but that single sign gave me hope. Historically, wolves do not co-exist with humans. For them, we are cursed and designed to live closer to animals than to men. But with the humans dominating the world, my kind dwindled and the wolves retreated into the darkness as just mere myth. But I refused to give up, not when immortality is nothing but an empty lonely path without my Luna Maria Victoria. And so I spent centuries amassing wealth, putting up companies, adapting to the ways of the humans, traveling the world, searching for my luna. I waited and searched and waited and searched in vain. But I did not stop and I won’t stop until my luna comes back to me. Not until that scent still lingers in the air. Even if it takes forever. She will come back to me. I’m sure of that. No amount of fate or god can stop me. I will find her and we will be reunited together.
