CHAPTER 3 & 4
3
Angel’s POV
Habang nilalandas naming ang daan papunta sa apartment nila, I cannot help but feel yet again the sensation of being observed. I am no master telepath but I know when someone is trying to invade my mind. It is not uncommon for a practitioner to manisfest multiple gifts. That’s why I know a thing or two about the Flairs.
“So, malapit na tayo. May gusto ka ba munang kainin? I mean, p’wede naman tayong bumaba muna sa Gaisano. My treat.”
You know, the basics. Habang bumibili kami ng kanyang mga kagamitan, I cannot help but ask him something.
“Oo, bakit?”
“So, bakit ka naka-apartment kung gan’on?”
“Ahh. ‘Yon ba? Kasi kay Lola ang apartment na ‘yon. D’on n’ya ako pinatira. Well, she didn’t disagree.”
“Sure ka ha? Baka naman merong homophobe d’on.”
“Bakit?”
“Well…”
He chuckled before placing the items he bought on the cashiers’ stand. Napansin kong medyo OC sya kasi inilalagay n’ya nang by pairs or shapes ang mga binili n’ya. Patahitahimik lang ako pero marunong ako mag-observe.
“Don’t you think homophobia is outdated? I mean, really? People use bible verses to prove someone is a sinner? Eh ano naman ngayon? They shouldn’t use the sacred words of God just dehumanize and demonize a select group of people. Shouldn’t they be left alone?”
I just smiled at him and offered to help him with the bags pero ayaw n’ya. Kaya nya daw magisa.
He told me to wait dahil may kailangan daw syang kausapin.
Sumenyas sya sa akin wherein I took it as a sign para bumaba na and so I did.
She said and gave me a quick peck on the cheecks. Well, para s’yang sniff kiss.
Did you know that the sniff kiss is the sweetest form of affection in the Thai culture?
“Opo. Magandang hapon po.”
“Halika!
She was very gracious to offer someone refreshments and snacks. Ayoko sanang magpabuhat ng gamit. Eh kaso mapilit ang ibang boarders. Let me introduce you to the following boarders:
Si Kuya Adam, isang BS – Nursing student, second year, 19, gwapong moreno na medyo daddy bod; si Kuya Andrew, BS – Criminology student, first year, 18, gwapong payat, mukhang suplado; si Kuya Sandro, Secondary Education (Major in MAPEH), 22, graduating, kamukha ni Bright from 2gether the Series at si Kuya Marcus, isang lisensyadong pulis, daddy material, 25.
“Apo, mura lang ang singil ko. Limang libo kasama renta, bahay, at tubig. Libre ang pagkain. Toka-toka nga lang sa pagbayad sa WiFi. Ayos lang ba?” Lola Arida said.
“Opo.
I got the chance to bond with the other tenants.
Shutaaaa! Hindi ba ang sexy n’ya? Did I forget to mention na para syang bodybuilder?
I just smiled at him and went inside our room. The room has two beds. Spacious ang room. Parehas merong study table.
So, to be productive this rainy afternoon, nagsimula na akong magayos ng mga gamit ko. Mukhang nasa baba pa si John Vic. So, I decided to strip down to my usual garments. A simple sando shirt and my boxer briefs: comfort before style.
After making sure that my side of the room is prepped, naisipan kong kalikutin ang paborito kong app sa phone: Dreame. Favorite author ko si @Iamkenth, SPG ang content nya pero it’ll take you to a rollercoaster ride. Reading has become my addiction and I don’t regret it kasi kaya ko pa rin namang i-prioritize ang mga dapat i-prioritize.
“Angel tapos ka na bang---’’
Nang tumingin ako sa pinanggalingan ng boses, I saw John Vic at the door and with his eyes fixated on me. I snapped my fingers to get his attention, which worked, and got up out of bed.
“Ano ‘yon?”
“A-ah. M-m-may merienda sa baba. Baka gusto mo.”
“Sige. Susunod ako.”
I just wanted to be comfortable in my own skin kaya sumabay na ako ng pagbaba sa kanya. Lola Arida prepared for us a tasty dish called ‘ginataang mais’. While dining at the table, the other boarders started to talk about topics like politics, sports, the economic status ansd such. John Vic and I just focused our attention and energy on eating the delicious snack prepared by Lola Arida.
“Asan po ang Lola?”
“Nagsi-siesta. Ganitong oras ay natutulog s’ya. Kaya bawal kaming magingay kung kaya’t di kami masyadong nagsasalita.” Sabi ni Kuya Andrew.
“So, Angel, kaklse mo si John Vic?” tanong ni Kuya Sandro.
“Opo, Kuya.”
– Kuya Sandro
“Una, hanggang 7:30 PM lang ang curfew. Kapag hindi ka pa nakauwi, by then. Matulog ka sa labas. Dahil walang magbubukas ng pinto para sayo.” – Kuya Adam
– Kuya Marcus
“Pangatlo, sabay-sabay kami kumain dito. Bawal ang nahuhuli. Kung ayaw mong magalitan ni Kuya Marcus, be on time.” – Kuya Andrew
– John Vic.
It took me a while to digest the rules, I just responded with a smile and a simple ‘opo’.
As the day went by, I again had that eerie feeling.
I went outside and opened my inner and ear. Basically, I tried to invoke the Sight. Please, do not view me as an aspiring candidate for the Prime Supremacy. I just want to be a skilled sorcerer. I need to know the history of this place before I could conjure some protective enchantments and erect an aura shield.
“praeter veritatem videam (let me see the truthful past)”.
I touched the ground and started to see things. I am not expert in using this but I could sense the magic that once protected this place.
It has faded, but it’s still present.
Fifty years ago, an esteemed witch died protecting this house against a rival witch. The spirits and elementals that she befriended placed a powerful spiritus sphaeram on this house. Their bond maintained the power of this place.
I sense the immense power of the barrier pero ang hindi ko inasahan ay hindi man lang ako nakaramdam nang kakaiba. The barrier felt pure to me.
“Magandang gabi sa’yo, Batang Salamangkero.”
I turned and saw a Kapre above the tree. He’s roughly about eight-feet tall, bulky, and is enjoying his tabacco. I cannot afford to be afraid so I maintained a stoic expression as he slowly descended down from the tree and bowed to me to which I returned the bow.
With that he vanished, I gathered enough mana from the energy around and proceeded to enchant the house with an aura shield.
“praesidio haec domus, haec patria defendat, custodiat corda et de hoc in animabus covina (protect this house, protect this home, protect the hearts of the souls under this coven).”
After chanting that, I felt weak and started to feel woozy.
“Angel, halika na sa loob.”
My legs wobbled with the amount of energy I lost from that spell. John Vic say how I had difficulty in walking, as if on cue, agad nya akong inalalayan. He sounded worried when he asked me if I was okay pero I just smiled and asked to be laid in bed.
“Ano bang nangyari sayo?”
“Effect kasi to kapag namamahay ako.”
He stared at me like I had grown two heads. He just shrugged and helped me to bed.
Kinabukasan, abala na ang lahat dahil back to normal na ang setting. An advisory from the school was sent and it said that classes will resume once the flood waters receded. All activities will be posted in the google classrooms at yun daw ang gawin until further notice.
While the others were busy with their assigned work, I decided to cook for everyone. And when I told you na he’s like a bodybuilder, yes. Ang aga-aga nagkaroon agad ako ng kasalanan.
“Good morning, bunso. Ang aga mo ah?”
“A-ah. Magluluto po sana. May duty ka po?”
“Ay! Oo, medyo maraming gawain sa office eh. Bihis lang ako.”
My gosh. Para talaga s’yang si Gab Lagman. So, nagproceed ako sa magluluto. A simple pinoy breakfast came to mind ng maisipan ko to. Sinangag, hotdogs, ham, bacons, sunny-side ups, and fresh calamnsi juice were the thing that I was able to prepare under forty minutes.
“Kuya, kumain ka muna bago ka umalis. Masama daw ang papasok ng walang kain.”
“Salamat, bunso. Sige.”
“Good morning, Lola. Kain po.”
“Good morning din.
Ngek…
“Opo, Lola. Sorry po.”
“Ayos lang, hijo. Namamahay ka?”
“Opo, eh.”
After having a small chat with Lola, nakaramdam ako ng antok.
He’s simply wearing a sando shirt and may be boxers? How should I know?
Kahit saang anggulo talaga, gwapo sya. His eyebrows are thick, a well-chisled jaw, pouty lips, a high-pointed nose, eyes that suck your very soul, and his scent… well, that’s just being observant.
“Ang aga aga tinitignan mo ko.”
He said in a sleepy tone: a sexy, sleepy tone.
“Makapal din pala ang mukha mo, ‘no?”
“Hindi naman. Kilay lang.”
He said as he slowly opened his eyes and smirked at me.
“I woke up early eh. Sorry. Kumain kana sa baba.”
Tumayo ito sa kama at nag-unat. My eyes widened like saucers when I saw the tent in this boxer. Well, his little fellow is up and about. Little? Hypocrite. Namula ako ng makita kong nakatingin sya sa akin while smirking.
Shutaaa!
I should be used to it na daw kasi parehas naman kaming lalaki at puros lalaki naman daw kami dito sa boarding house.
As the day went by, John Vic and I just focused our attention and energies on the tasks assigned to us. As we were doing our activities, Sir Dan telepathically told me to meet with him later this afternoon. He’ll come and get me daw. I told him where I lived and I was shocked to find out that he was our neighbor.
Nagpaalam ako kay Lola na may kailangan akong kitaing tao. You know naman the typical lola, sermon muna. To ease her, I told him that I have John Vic’s cellphone number (which I do) and said that I’ll update him about me whereabouts.
May session tayo ngayon.”
“An aura shield was placed there. I couldn’t get in.”
He couldn’t? how?
You could’ve dissolve my barrier with ease.”
He looked at me as if I grew two heads.
“You placed it there?”
“Yes, sir.”
I wasn’t able to pass through.”
I smiled at that. He wanted to train me in using one of the sacred flairs, psycho-kinesis. Apparently, he mastered it. He placed me in a rigorous training. The mental training was really out of the context.
After completing his tasks, I decided to sit down and breathe for a while.
He asked out of the blue.
“Opo. Paano mo po nalaman?”
“Psycho-kinesis isn’t just used to read minds, it also used view memories and if properly trained, you can unhinge one’s mind. It was the reason why she was also the first to be burned at the stake.”
“Wasn’t she the second Prime?”
“Yes, she was. She tried to control her successor’s mind and forced the poor girl into committing suicide. Almost.”
“What stopped her?”
“The man that loved the third Prime. The man stabbed Morgana with a silver stick which was blessed by the most powerful white witch, Schahath.”
The truth was, Morgana became jealous of the third Prime. Because she had the man he longed for. So, she put into action a great many desperate attempts. But, Schahath intervened.
Third Prime, Olivia Skeeter gave birth to the first lesbian Prime. Starting the inclusivity of all genders and sexes.
Sa College of the Spiritus Verba, meron din. Occidental Mindoro has four candidates. One of the Sages gave a prophecy na nasa Pilipinas daw ang sampu pang susunod na magiging mga Prime. Claudia Seraphim never makes a mistake about prophecies.”
“Am I candidate?”
“No, pero isa ka sa mga nakikitaan ng potensyal bilang kandidato and the bad thing is… Slyvia will be here to watch the candidates perform the Assessment.”
Wow.
It’s the very first time I’ll be watching an Assessment. According to scholars, it is test wherein the candidates will perform each of the sacred flairs in three hours to a day. After successfully performing the most important one, the Resurgence Flair, the one who does it will be unanimously proclaimed as the Prime.
Pero, sobrang delikado nito. There have been instances of death according to the records. Lalo na sa Transmutation. Kasi, may isang bagay na dapat kunin sa Spirit Dimension tapos dapat makabalik agad. Most attempts lead to death.
“Ayoko po. Natatakot ako.”
“You have no choice. If you suppress your power, lalo lamang itong lalakas at hindi mo makokontrol.
Could he be talking about Witch Hunters? We haven’t had any witch hunting-related problems in decades. I thought they were extinct already. I haven’t heard any news about it in years.
“How I wish they were. Pero hindi eh. They’re still propagating. They’re just waiting for the right opportunity.
Our lesson ended with snacks made by Sir Dan. I got to know him slightly as we talked about a few things. Tinatamad daw sya. Well, the struggle is real.
With each step, the feeling of being watched became evident. It became more powerful.
I erected an aura shield around me.
I made a sharp turn.
The feeling still lurked. I am being followed.
Nang makarating ako sa isang malawak na lugar at matapos kong masiguro na walang makaririnig or makakikita sa akin, I turned around.
And there was no one.
“I know you’re here. Magpakita ka!”
A powerful surge of energy blasted me from the back.
“Ignis!”
I shot a firebolt to where the energy blast came from and I saw that it was deflected.
I am not accustomed to fighting but now is not the time to be fully of doubt and worry.
My aura shield was bombarded with continuous combative spells such as ignis (fire) and tierra (earth) shots. The barrier I put up withstood the shots with ease. But I notice something crucial.
My watch.
Time wasn’t moving.
It can only mean one thing.
I was in an illusion.
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
“Very good, Angel. Nakawala ka sa aking hawak. In such a short notice.”
I heard Sir Dan said. I found myself in the middle of his living room, on the floor and weak.
One thing I learned from the books is that time doesn’t flow in an illusion.
“How did you know that you weren’t in reality?”
“The hands of my watch weren’t moving. Time doesn’t exist in an illusion.”
Sir Dan chuckled at what I said. I felt weak and exhausted because of the time I spent in the illusion. Breaking from it takes a toll on someone.
I went inside our room and saw that John Vic wasn’t here. Baka lumabas.
Since I still felt woozy and tired, natulog ako ng maaga.
CHAPTER FOUR
Author’s POV
Dan was being called to make an appearance in front of the Sages.
Transmutation is something he greatly dislikes.
To be summoned by Orpheus, the Grand Sage, is something that one cannot simply ignore. Orpheus and Claudia are two of the most powerful mystical practioners who have ever lived. They were the novitiates during the time of MiMi Doloree and Shiva Sen (First Asian Prime).
As he walked along the halls of the Castle of Mirrors, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy as most that inhabit the castle wear long robes. Figures he view as ‘creepy’.
“Finally. I expected you to arrive a few minutes later. How was your transmutation here?”
Asked the Oracle, she looks as she was only thirty years of age. She wore a simple, vintage dress, white hair tied in an elegant knot, and her jewelry that befits her status. One couldn’t deny the raging power emanating from her.
“Fairly, Your Highness. Why have you summoned me, Lord Orpheus?”
The teacher asked politely as he averted his eyes somewhere else. He showed respect to the Grand Sage. Only a fool would question the power of Orpheus.
“My beloved wife has seen you training a potential candidate for the Prime Supremacy.”
The Master wizard became cautioius. The three of them are well-aware of Slyvia’s capabilities. Especially, Claudia.
“I know for a fact that you’re doing it for a reason…”
“Yes, my Lord. If you please, let me have this one.”
Every one on the Council knows about the existing rivalry between the two: Sylvia and Claudia. Rumour has it that Slyvia was jealous of Claudia’s vast and incomprehensible mastery of the Sight at dahil doon, nagkaroon ng isang malaking alitan ang dal’wa.
“You have to hide him, Daniel. You know how wicked Slyvia is.” Said the Grand Sage.
“I can keep Sylvia at bay. She won’t be able get pass through my psychic blocker. I have placed them on all of the candidates, including your student.”
Claudia’s psychic barrier is impenetrable. Not even the pass Primes were able to get through it. She was thought to be the successor of Prime Mariposa because she manifested all the Sacred Flairs at the age of nineteen. But, before the Assessment could commence. Prime Mari went missing. It was everyone’s surprise that Sylvia got the Prime Supremacy and Claudia was appointed as the Novice Foreseer (speaker of prophecies).
“Ten Primes. We will have Ten Primes in this decade if Slyvia founds out who her successor will be.” said Claudia.
The two wizards were dumbfounded with what the witch just said.
“What do you mean, my dear?”
“She will kill all of her successors. Once she finds out who the next Prime will be, she will not hestitate to slit the throat of that successor.”
This thought placed all the candidates in jeopardy. The three of them understood the gravity that would befall them if Slyvia does kill those unfortunate souls.
“What do you want us to do then?” Daniel asked.
Both wizards watched the foreseer walk towards a window where the silver rays of the moon pass through. As the Novice Foreseer, she could only see the indefinite future. Five decades maximum. She needed the help of the one they call the Janus… the Prime whose raw strength and undoubted mastery of the Sight cemented him as one of the most powerful soul readers in the world of Mystical Practitioners…
. . .Kenja Evangelista. . .
The only Prime who didn’t die after identifying his successor. He who is the only living master of tempus circuitum. He could see in four directions. The future, the past, the present, and the probable circumstances. The gods believed that he was needed on earth and that’s why Death didn’t take him.
Meanwhile. . .
“Ahhh. Right there. Suck me good, Mommy.”
“Let me f**k you, please.”
“Why? Are you a good boy?”
“Yes, I am Mommy. Let me eat your juicy p***y. I want it.”
“Ahhhh. Shiiiiit! Right there, baby boy. Make Mommy proud.”
The Dark Prime.
She was gifted with the most foul type of magic.
Privatio vita – the exact opposite of vitalis sacrificium. It takes the life of others draining them: pulversizing them into dust.
“You were good. But, not good enough.”
This is the real Sylvia Ordoveza.
She did not care for anyone but her self. She rained for more than forty years but her face resembled that of a teenager. Despite the fact that she’s about sixty years of age. She stood from the bed walking towards the comfort room before turning around, facing the pile of dust that was formerly the young man she just had s*x with.
With a flick of her hand, the dust on her bed vanished into thin air. With the use of privation vita, she was able to add the years of the young boy to herself. But since Slyvia was destined to die, she was only able to take half of those years.
“Well, well. If it isn’t the baddest b***h in the planet.”
Slyvia recognized the voice and knew the emanating power all too well.
She saw Claudia dressed in her outfit and was standing right behind her.
“To what do I owe the pleasure of having the Novice Foreseer here in my condo unit?”
“Just thought of dropping by, is all. How have you been? Still sucking the life from someone’s d**k I see.”
She just smirked at that and sat down with a chuckle as she was brushing her hair. Despite their rivalry, they know when to be civil.
“Well, I can help it if my skills in f******o are unparalled.”
Claudia walked towards the mirror, poured herself a glass of wine, and sat at the tub facing her rival. They bought raised their glasses and drank it slowly.
“Anong masamang hangin ang nagdala sayo dito? You wouldn’t risk your life coming here for nothing.”
“The candidates are prepared.”
Hmmm. Sylvia was struck with fear, knowing all too well what that signifies: the rise of a new Prime causes the former Prime to wither. Her immenent death is upon her.
“And you’re telling me this because?”
“Nothing. I just want to remind you of your immenent death. No matter how much life you suck out of other people, you will still die a slow and excrutiating death!”
At a blink of an eye, Sylvia shot one of her most deadly spells at Claudia, it’s known as the Plague. A swarm of dark magic and flesh-eating athropods came out of her hand and went straight to Claudia who was blasted with the shot directly.
What angered Sylvia is the fact that it was just an illusion.
“You actually believe that I’d risk my life to be in the presence of vain, vindictive b***h like you? I’ll see you in a place you rightfully deserve.”
With an insulting chuckle, Claudia’s apparition vanished; leaving her to be with her thoughts.
As she sat on the stool in her bathroom, she couldn’t help but feel and think about the fear of losing all that she worked hard for. She had to make a move.
“Mamamatay ang susunod na Prime.”
