Book 2 After My Forbidden Human Mate: The story of Ember, the daughter of Rowan and Tessa. "Stop it!" I shouted, stamping my foot. My mama had taught me to stand up for myself and for others. I didn't like how James was teasing me. He'd taken my doll, the special one my nana had given me. He was taller and older than me and I'd had enough! "Or what," he sneered. "Whatcha gonna do about it princess?" I balled my fists and felt the anger rising in me. Mama didn't like it when I felt so angry. Bad things tended to happen, but I couldn't care less right now! The wind began to whip fiercely, tossing my auburn curls every which way. I smiled as James's smug grin faded, morphing into fear. His eyes widened as he noticed my hands begin to emit a violet glow. "H-H-Here!" he stammered throwing my doll at my feet. I raised my palms up about to unleash my wrath on him when someone yelled my name. "Ember!" It was my daddy. I felt his hand on my shoulder and I lost my stream. I whirled around and buried my face in his stomach. "Get out of here James. Now!" my dad said sternly. James didn't think twice and sprinted off, the leaves loudly crunching under his feet. My dad picked me up and I clung to him tightly, burying my face in his neck. My daddy was like me. Powerful. Although he'd always tell me I was more amazing in every way. He didn't make me talk, nor did he lecture me. He just let me feel safe in his arms. He was headed through the town square when the ground shook. Daddy froze and I peeked my head up. "What was that daddy?" I asked him with a sniffle. "I don't know baby," he answered. I could hear the concern in his voice. The ground shook again and Daddy took off running the pack house. I clung to him tighter. Daddy was able to keep his balance despite the rumbling ground. When Daddy burst through the pack house doors I looked up. Papa was right there, and his face was etched with worry. With him was auntie Rachel. "What was that?" Papa asked aloud. "I don't know," daddy answered, "But I feel something coming.... or someone. And it feels.... dark." "Spread the message for the pack to stay indoors. Get some of the guard to go to the boundaries to keep watch," papa told Rachel. Suddenly, in my head I heard a lady's voice. I was used to hearing my mama and Daddy's voice when they'd mind link me but I did not know this lady, 'We've been waiting a long time for you Ember my dear. Can't wait to meet you.' I scrunched up my nose. I didn't like her voice. She sounded mean. I didn't answer her. Daddy sensed my unease and his eyes, my same aqua violets, met mine, "What is it baby?" he asked. "I don't like the mean lady," I told him. "She says she's been waiting for me and can't wait to meet me." Daddy's face paled and he looked at Papa, "Dad I think we have company." Suddenly the ground shook so violently that daddy and papa nearly fell. Then the first scream rang out...
