Chapter I ~ The first meeting

“I don’t care about any of that. I care about you,” she yelled at him as his hand landed on the door handle. He paused. His back fronted her. She slowly walked closer. “Please Zack. Don’t go.... I love you,” she pleaded with him. He didn’t turn around. He didn’t even move an inch. He was frozen. She reached out for his frozen figure and slowly tangled her arms around his waist trying to warm him up. His hand never left the door handle. Slowly his other hand reached up to where her arms crossed around his stomach. He gently loosened her grip. “I need to go...,” he said in a low husky voice. Her arms fell to her sides and tears fought to run down her sadden face. He opened the door and took a step forward. “Tell me you don’t love me and I will forget about you...,” she said as the first tear ran down her face. He froze again. “Look me straight in the eye and convince me.... Tell me you don’t love me Zack,” she said with newfound confidence, shaking the whole apartment building. He turned around and walked straight up to her and looked her dead in the eye. “I don’t love you Genevieve,” he said with the most careless expression she had ever seen. Tears started running down her cheeks. His expression didn’t change. He turned back to the door and exited the apartment without so much as a second glance at her. She fell to the floor holding herself up with one arm and covering her mouth with the other. The room was filled with sobs as she stared wide-eyed at the floor in disbelief where he had just stood. Her heart broke into nothing, just like how easy it had been for him to say those five words. “I Don’t Love You Genevieve.” Feeling nothing else but the pain in her chest numbing her slowly. Thinking back. This was not how she thought things would turn out. It all started 6 months ago on the day of the announcement. Genevieve’s dad was a Politician and a well known one. He was well known for being a man of the people. Being a socialist, a man on the left side of politics. The announcement, which was published that day, was that Genevieve’s dad, Mr. Wilson, would run for president. Even though Genevieve didn’t care much about politics, she was proud of her father. After her mom had died 6 years prior to this event. Her dad had been in a bad place and was finally better. Genevieve herself was finally better. She hadn’t felt like herself for years. But finally after starting at her dream school CLS (Central Law School) her life felt like living again. Just a stone’s throw away from becoming a defense attorney. A smart, determined, independent and beautiful young lady was what she was becoming. Her father was very proud of her. The upcoming selection had begun to become a dangerous time for Mr. Wilson and his daughter. Dead treats and black mailing had surrounded Mr. Wilson for a few months. A lot of higher ups and wealthy people didn’t like his ideas. ‘Lifting together as one’ didn’t sound needed for these individuals. ‘The one who has more should be able to contribute more to Society, compared to those who have less.’ was a cursed thing to say to those individuals. But that was the idea Mr. Wilson had. But the idea worried some in the upper class who wanted Mr. Wilson gone. A price on his head should do it... Mr. Wilson wasn’t stupid and knew something was up. After he started receiving dead treats, the police advised him to hire a private contractor for protection. Mr. Wilson hired Team seven. The team consists of seven men with different skill sets. The leader, named Ethan Carter aka Q. Age 29. A very clever man with an IQ of 148. Skilled problem solver with a deadly eye for detail and never forgets a thing. The driver, named Isaac Miller aka Mirror. Age 31. Tames any mechanical beast out there. Cars, boats, plans, it doesn't matter. Also a mean mechanic. The hacker, named Noah Scott aka Sugar or Sugs. Age 30. There's nothing he can’t hack into. Silent with a deadly stare there would make anyone hide from his line of sight. The engineer, named Matthew Hope aka Hope. Age 29. The team needs something... he can build it. Doesn’t matter what. The Informants (The 95’ers.) Skyler Adler and Tayden Beckett. Both age 27. Adding them together, they speak over 26 different languages. Professional liars are their profession. Getting into events gathering information is a hard skill to master and yet these two seem to have no problem. Especially not with the ladies. The soldier, named Zachary Hayes Aka Zack or Z. The youngest. Age 25. Second in command and the deadliest. Born out of a military family. His knowledge of martial arts, weapons and explosives is huge. Not a man you want to cross. The job of protecting Mr. Wilson and Genevieve was an odd one for the team to accept. Normally they were in the business of tracking people down. Criminals of different kinds that the police had given up on. Protection wasn’t in their area of expertise. One member in particular didn’t like this new job very much. Zack Hayes. The youngest was sitting in a black SUV with Isaac and Ethan on their way to meet up with Mr. Wilson for the first time. The others were driving right behind them. Zack sat crossed arms in the backseat with an annoyed expression on his face. Ethan looked in the rear view mirror seeing Zack's expression. “Zack, stop that. You look like a teenager being dragged back to school after summer vacation. It’s just another job. It will be over before you know it,” Ethan said in a calm voice. Zack's eyes fell on the rear view mirror and stared straight into Ethan’s eyes. “This is a waste of our time. Protecting a politician... ha. What a joke,” he snapped at his leader. “Zack... it's not up to you. It was a team decision. Besides, it's a good thing to earn the favor of the man who could end up being the next president. It’s a tactical move for us....,” Ethan stated but he was cut off by Isaac. “Besides, it’s gonna be easy. I doubt we’ll need any of your skills. Take it as a paid vacation Zacky,” Zack narrowed his eyes in disbelief. Isaac saw his expression and continued. “After our last job, you need it. Things went pretty sideways,” Zack cut him off. “I am fine! I already told you guys. A broken rib is nothing and I’m a fast healer,” he said in an angry tone. His friends sighed and gave up trying to convince the youngest of the benefits of this new job. “Easy is boring...,” Zack stated and looked out of the window again. The two older ones looked at each other as they shook their heads in disbelief. The rest of the trip was silent. The two cars arrived at the candidate’s office and the seven men stepped out of the cars. They all looked up at the tall building. Skyler stepped closer to Ethan. “How did it go?,” he whispered to Ethan. Ethan just looked at him with an empty expression. “Really?! That bad...,” Skyler let slip out as the rest turned around looking at him. Skyler locked eyes with Zack. Zack knew they were talking about him. His eyes darkened as he stepped closer to Skyler, staring him down in a dangerous way. Skyler grew smaller and stepped back, hiding behind Noah. “Ejs... why are you hiding behind me?!,” Noah said annoyed and stepped to the side to espouse Skyler. Skyler was quick to jump behind Noah again. Noah just sighed and looked up at Zack who was still staring Skyler down. Zack was taller and stronger build which usually intimidated people, but not Noah. “Enough Zack... save it for later. We have a job to do,” Noah said in a stern voice. They all walked inside the building. Tayden hit Skyler in the back of the head. “i***t,” he whispered. Skyler looked up and glared at him. “Idiots,” Matthew said as he walked past in between them, hitting them both as he passed. Genevieve was standing by the panorama window looking outside over the city. She had her back facing the door. Mr. Wilson was sitting at his desk reading through some documents. A knock on the door manages to catch both of their attention. They both looked at the door. “Come in,” Mr. Wilson said, and the door opened. Seven young men walked in. They all lined up and bowed. Mr. Wilson smiled, stood up and walked toward them. “Hello... Hello and welcome. Thank you for coming,” he said with a relieved smile. He shook hands with them all as they introduced themselves. Genevieve looked at them all one by one as they introduced themselves. Ethan the leader was tall, normal body build, short dark brown hair and gentle brown eyes. Isaac was the same height with very brought shoulders, styled black hair and had warm brown eyes. Skyler was the smallest of the group. He was still tall but not as tall as the rest. He had blond hair, blue eyes, a charming rounder face and slim build. Noah was only a little taller than Skyler. He was also slime build. He had slightly longer hair than the rest, sort of a lazy kinda styled mullet of dark brown hair matching his eyes. Matthew was tall and slim build with light brown hair and kind light brown eyes. Tayden was as tall as Isaac and had sort of slightly curly longer brown hair and hazel eyes. His face was very symmetrical. Her eyes stopped when they landed on a man already staring at her. She tilted her head a bit confused. He seemed annoyed. His dark brown eyes left her as Mr. Wilson reached him. They shook hands. “Hayes. Zack, sir,” he said in a deep voice as the young man's eyes fell on Genevieve again. Genevieve couldn’t help but get lost in his presence. He was so handsome. Very strongly build body and tall. His facial features were sharp. Eyes dark, mysterious and deep. His lips parted a bit as she looked at them. So kissable pink lips. She snapped out of her trance when her dad introduced her. “This is my daughter Genevieve. She is a defense attorney law student at CLS. The top of her class,” he said proudly. “It is very nice to meet you Genevieve,” Ethan said as he bowed to the young lady. The rest of the team followed and bowed. Her eyes fell on Zack again as his face became visible again coming up from bowing. Their eyes met yet again and she panicked and looked away. He smirked, amused by her reaction. It’s nothing new to him that girls found him attractive. He had to admit he never minded the attention. All of the men sat down on the couch except for Zack as Mr. Wilson started to speak. “I already explained our situation. There have been more dead treats recently. I was hoping you could provide protection as well as find out who is behind the Anti Wilson Campaign. Nothing has happened yet. No one has approached us physically... but I worry that it is only a matter of time. The comments are only getting worse and fear for me and especially my daughters safety. I would like to know what I’m up against,” he said with a worried expression. Zack wasn’t really listening as he walked to Genevieve. Her eyes widened as he walked closer. He stopped beside her looking out of the window. He looked down at the street below and at the building across. Genevieve observed him as he looked around. He was so close. Even more handsome up close. He was tall and mysterious. He had this sexy, dangerous aura around him. She was lost yet again in his presence. He turned and looked at her. She snapped back to reality as his strong gaze landed on her and they locked eyes. “Miss Genevieve, you should step away from the window,” he said coldly as he stared her down. The rest of the guy’s and Mr. Wilson all looked at them. “W-why?,” she stuttered, struggling under his intense gaze. “Just do it!,” Zack snapped, raising his voice a bit in annoyance. She lost all the attraction she felt towards him. A burning anger raised inside of her instead. “How rude... It wouldn’t hurt to explain nicely!,” she snapped back at him. His eyes widened in surprise for a second before his expression changed to annoyance again. He was about to say something when he was cut off by Ethan. “Zack. Enough...,” he said calmly with a stern voice. Genevieve looked away from Zack as he still stared her down. She turned her back to the window. “I’m sorry about that. Zack can be a bit... well intense,” Ethan apologizes to Mr. Wilson and Genevieve. Mr. Wilson lifted a hand and shook his head, signaling Ethan to stop. “No need for an apology. Mr. Hayes must know what he is talking about,” he said and bowed his head slightly at Zack. Zack didn’t react and kept his eyes on Genevieve instead. To him she was very small. She was more than a head smaller than him. Slime build but still some curves around the hips, thighs and chest. She had long wavy cool toned blond hair, green eyes and a round face only reshaped by her cheek bones. Mr. Wilson looked at Genevieve.“Please Genevieve just step away from the...,” Mr. Wilson didn’t get to finish his sentence before Zack cut him off. “Everyone get down!,” he yelled as he grabbed Genevieve’s arm and pulled her closer to him. He stepped back with Genevieve to his chest. Seconds later, a little hole appeared in the glass as a bullet flew through it. The bullet thankfully didn’t hit its target. Mr. Wilson. Right as Zack had warned the others, Skyler and Tayden quickly moved to Mr. Wilson's side and flipped over his desk, hiding themselves and Mr. Wilson behind it. The rest of the guys were hiding behind the furniture. A second hole appeared in the glass with no gunshots to be heard. “Sniper!,” Isaac yelled. Zack pulled Genevieve with him behind a commode as they fell to the floor. Genevieve landed on top of Zack. He groaned in pain as his rib hadn’t healed from their last job yet. Genevieve noticed and forgot about the snipper, she lifted her body a bit up and was about to get up completely. “What are you doing... stay low,” Zack whispered angrily. She lowered herself down to his chest again as he groaned in pain yet again. She looked up at him apologetically. “Sorry. I didn’t know I was this heavy...,” He cut her off even more annoyed. “You are not heavy... “ He snapped as if she had questioned how much of a man he really was. She just stayed quiet. “Zack, how do we proceed?!,” Ethan yelled from behind the couch. Another hole appeared in the glass as it shattered the whole panorama window shortly after making a lot of noise. “Zack?!,” Isaac yelled. “Shut up old man... I’m thinking,” Zack snapped. “You little...,” Isaac yelled before he was cut off by Matthew and Noah. “Not the right time!,” they yelled at Isaac in perfect sync. “Let it slide, Isaac,” Tayden yelled from the desk beside Mr. Wilson. Zack looked around a bit frustrated but couldn't see much. He couldn’t move to see more with Genevieve on top of him. He looked down at her and was about to yell at her to get off. But something stopped him. She was hiding her face in his chest, shaking in fear. He sighed and decided on a different approach, trying not to freak her even more out. Scared desperate people do stupid things. Besides, it would probably be bad to have the daughter of his new boss killed on their first day, he thought to himself. He gently took her hand in his, causing her to look up at him. “Listen carefully Genevieve. I need you to move off me slowly and carefully. Stay low and close beside me. Do you understand?,” he said in a softer tone and ran his thumb over the back of her hand trying to calm her down. He didn’t know why he caressed her hand like that but it seemed to work. She nodded and moved slowly to his side, earning a groan of pain yet again from his rib injury. Her hand slipped a bit at the sound of him in pain and her face came close to his. They looked into each other’s eyes. “Sorry,” she whispered almost against his lips. He parted his lips a bit and looked at hers so close to his. She was attractive. He wouldn’t deny that. Beautiful face with small lips, a perfect little cute nose touching his..... and her eyes. Beautiful green eyes. Her cheeks blushed from embarrassment. He hadn’t noticed her looks that much before being focused on his job, but she was stunning. She moved her face away and sat beside him. He shook his head and snapped back to reality. He denied all of the thoughts he had just had and suppressed the feeling of attraction towards her. ‘I have been with more attractive women than her’ he thought and focused on the situation instead. He sat up slightly and looked behind the commode and around in the room. His eyes fell on the fire extinguisher and an idea popped up in his head. He took out his gun from his belt around his thigh. “Guys I have an idea. It’ll give us around a 30 second window to get out. So you better move quickly,” he said and looked around the room making a plan in his head on who should move first. “Sky and Tay when I count down from 3 I’ll shoot the fire extinguisher. It will provide some cover. You two move first with Mr. Wilson,” Zack was cut off. “No, my daughter goes first,” Mr. Wilson said. Zack looked at Genevieve. She looked scared but tried to control her breathing to calm down. She was braver than he thought. Controlling your breathing and staying calm was good. Not bad, he thought. “Mr. Wilson. As you said yourself. Zack knows what he is doing,” Skyler said beside him, calming him down. “I got your daughter Mr. Wilson. I won’t let anything happen to her. She is safe with me,” Zack said as he looked into Genevieve's eyes, assuring her of her safety as well. She nodded and gave Zack a little thankful smile. His gaze softened seeing her smile in a situation like this. “I’m okay dad. Trust him,” Genevieve said with a gentle soft voice. Zack couldn’t believe how brave she was. She was so fragile and yet so strong at the same time. “What now?,” she asked Zack in a soft voice. He could tell she was scared. They needed to get out of here. “Okay. As soon as I shoot Skyler, Tayden and Wilson move to the door. As soon as they're out, Noah and Ethan then move, as they are closest to the door. Then Hope and Isaac,” Zack paused and looked at Genevieve as she looked more scared and nervous. “That just leaves me and Genevieve.... there should be enough time for all of us to get out,” he said as he moved his eyes away from Genevieve and aimed his gun at the fire extinguisher. “Ready?!,” he asked everyone. They all confirmed they were ready. Zack looked at Genevieve. She hesitantly nodded. He took a deep breath and counted down. “3... 2... 1,” he counted down and fired his gun. The fire extinguisher sent out white powder-like substance into the room making it hard to see. Everything went so quickly and before Genevieve knew it, it was hers and Zack's turn to make a break for the door. “Let’s go,” he said and took her hand in his. They stood up. He pushed her in front of him, covering her with his own body. The sniper fired shots but missed because of the low visibility in the room. They made it out of the room and all of them moved further into the building to safety. Mr. Wilson hugged Genevieve in relief.
