CHAPTER 1
In the quiet of the evening, the corridor lay cloaked in darkness, illuminated only by the soft glow of lamplight. Shadows danced against the walls, mimicking the hurried footsteps that echoed through the stillness. Felix Yeats burst into the room, his presence commanding attention. "Check the kitchen. And you, the living room. Leave no corner unturned; I want her found!" His voice dripped with desperation and fury as his subordinates sprang into action. One subordinate crashed through the kitchen while another struggled with a heavy couch in the living room, oblivious to the inadequate hiding spot beneath it. Felix's anger boiled over as he confronted the struggling subordinate. "What are you doing?" he demanded, incredulous at the oversight. The subordinate stammered, his fear palpable. "Looking for Ms. Nash, sir," he replied, his breath ragged from exertion. Felix's frustration erupted. "Under the damn couch!" he thundered, his disbelief cutting through the tension like a knife. As the other subordinate returned empty-handed from the kitchen, the room fell silent, save for Felix's unwavering gaze fixed on the subordinate by the couch. In a moment of revelation, the subordinate confessed, "Ms. Nash is not in there, sir," breaking the heavy oppressive silence in the room. Felix's response was swift and unforgiving. "Lift that couch and get him under it. He's staying there until we find her," he commanded, his tone brooking no dissent. With trembling hands, both subordinates complied, their fear palpable as they pressed their colleague beneath the couch, his cries for help ignored in the relentless pursuit of their elusive target. "Check the bedroom!" Felix's authoritative voice sliced through the air, driving the subordinate forward with a haphazard nod as they stumbled towards the next target, nerves frayed and adrenaline coursing through their veins. Felix trailed behind them, a silent force propelling them deeper into the heart of the search. In the suffocating darkness of the closet, Selina's breaths came in shallow gasps, her chest tightening with anxiety. She pressed her trembling hands firmly over her ears, trying to drown out the approaching danger. Every creak of the floorboards outside sent shivers down her spine, amplifying her helplessness. Desperate for escape, Selina's mind raced with frantic thoughts, fear, and uncertainty swirling within her. Despite her efforts to steel herself against rising panic, the closet walls seemed to close around her, trapping her in a suffocating embrace. In the darkness, Selina's senses heightened, every rustle and whisper magnified to deafening proportions. She felt like she stood on the edge of a precipice, teetering dangerously close to plunging into the abyss of Felix's madness. With each passing moment, Selina's fear threatened to overwhelm her, her pulse pounding in her ears like a drumbeat of impending doom. She knew she was trapped, entangled in a deadly game with a predator who would stop at nothing to claim his prize. Her heart pounded in her chest like a caged bird, its frantic rhythm echoing the fear that consumed her. The suffocating weight of Felix's obsession pressed down on her, threatening to crush her spirit with its relentless intensity. As footsteps drew nearer, a glimmer of hope flickered within her, only to be extinguished as they abruptly halted. In the dimly lit closet, Selina's heart raced as she heard the trembling voice of Felix's subordinate, his words hanging heavily in the air. "We have searched everywhere, sir. She's not here," he said, his tone tinged with fear and calculation. Felix's gaze remained fixed on the closed closet, his eyes piercing through the darkness. "Are you sure?" he questioned, his voice edged with danger. "Yes, sir. I'm sure," the subordinate replied, his voice betraying a hint of nervousness. "Okay, let's go," Felix conceded, but his focus remained on the closet as if daring it to reveal its hidden occupant. As the footsteps receded, Selina found herself enveloped in suffocating silence. Relief washed over her momentarily but was quickly replaced by a creeping sense of dread as she realized the gravity of her situation. With trembling hands, she clutched the closet door, her mind racing with fear and uncertainty. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to remain hidden, but a desperate hope flickered within her, urging her to seize the opportunity for escape. With a shaky breath, Selina pushed open the closet door, her movements slow and deliberate. Every creak of the hinges reverberated through the room, signaling her betrayal to the shadows that concealed her. Emerging from the darkness, Selina's legs trembled beneath her as she stepped into the dimly lit room. Her eyes darted around, searching for any glimmer of hope, any avenue of escape, but found none. There, Felix Yeats sat, his smile a harbinger of impending doom. As Felix's gaze fell upon Selina emerging from the closet, something unexpected caught his attention. Amidst the palpable tension and impending confrontation, a small detail stood out to him—the mismatched socks adorning Selina's feet. One sock was striped with vibrant colors, while the other sported a whimsical polka dot pattern. For a fleeting moment, Felix's stern facade wavered as he took in the sight, his brow furrowing in bemusement. Here was a woman, poised on the brink of defiance yet adorned with a playful quirkiness that seemed out of place. Despite himself, a ghost of a smile tugged at the corners of Felix's lips, momentarily softening the hard lines of his features. "You really have a way of making even the most dire situations... colorful," he remarked, his voice laced with possessive amusement. "But remember, Selina, you can't hide from me. Not now, not ever." "Please, just let me go," Selina pleaded, her voice quivering, the words barely escaping her trembling lips. Her eyes, wide and brimming with tears, met his with a desperate plea for mercy. "I didn't bring you to my villa just to let you go," he replied, his voice deep and resonant. Tears streaming down her face, Selina choked out, "I hate you; you've made my life a living hell." Felix's jaw tightened, his expression twisted in anger. "Oh dear," he said coldly, "you've dug yourself a grave, and now I must ensure you face the consequences." Felix took a few measured strides towards her, and Selina retreated until her back hit the closet. She swallowed hard and pleaded, "I'm sorry, let's talk about this. Please, forgive me." "In my world, forgiveness isn't something I practice. I believe in punishing those who defy me," Felix said, his words slicing through the air like a knife. "I'm sorry, Felix," Selina pleaded, her voice trembling as Felix closed the gap between them. "You know, I hate doing this, but you've forced my hand," Felix said, his voice low and resolute. "But I haven't done anything wrong," Selina's voice trembled as she spoke. "I know," Felix replied, his tone softening slightly. "But I have to."
