The Unexpected Alpha

The hardest thing about being in a pack of other wolves was not belonging. The Alpha of Lotus pack challenged the Alpha of the Estrella pack I had belonged to. I came with my little brother and since we came with the Alpha that challenged our Alpha, we were given rooms in the pack house. We weren’t the only ones to come though. Most of the pack, who didn’t want to become rogues or join other packs with their mates, were given homes here until the property our pack had resided on had gone under renovations. Our Alpha was horrible. He didn’t care about any of us. The Beta and Delta turned their eyes to how he had treated his whole pack. Once the Elders had found out that some of us were slaves and others were prisoners, they stepped in and gave him warnings. Unfortunately, the Elders weren’t able to fix the problem and Alphas of other packs were more than welcome to band together and challenge our prior Alpha.  Our new Alpha was going to be holding a ceremony for us to join them. Most of the pack members that came are able to shift and mind link with other pack members as long as they are an actual part of the pack. This ceremony would allow us to fully be part of the pack and become one with them. The Lotus pack has been nothing but welcoming to us. In fact, as we started arriving, some of them found their mates. Housing assignments were getting short and the Alpha was at a loss on what to do. “Alpha Herrera, I may have a solution to the increase that the pack has had on such a short notice.” I was walking with the Alpha like I did every morning after training. “Celeste, you have been a great addition to the pack. And you are now how old?” I looked up Alpha Herrera. “I’m 23, Sir. And before you ask, no I have not found my mate. Yes, I do have my wolf. Her name is Abigail, and no we do not intend to leave this pack with the information you have at your finger tips.” I turned to fully face him. Shock was written all over his face. “You see, Sir, these are things that I am asked on a daily basis and as much as I would love to find my mate and find my true place, I am still am architect major and since you have given me the responsibility to ensure that each member of this pack has a home without having to stay with families, I believe it is time we sit down and discuss expanding the land because as you can see, your pack is growing.” My little brother had found his mate almost immediately after we had arrived here almost a year ago. I was quite flustered with the amount of pack members here. I believe Alpha Herrera was able to sense it. “Let’s go to my office. There is something we need to discuss and with the information I have, it is best that we go where no one can hear.” He started walking to his office and I followed behind him. For a pack as small as the Lotus pack, the pack house was quite large. Ten stories tall, with the entire 10th floor being dedicated to the Alpha and Luna. The ground floor was dedicated to the pack; it had everything we needed with a huge kitchen, dining room, library and recreational room. The second floor was more dedicated to the hospital wing, spa and gym. Other floors were dedicated for ranked pack members and pack members with the pack house responsibilities. I walked over to the elevator and waited for the Alpha. As the doors opened, the Alpha stepped in and shortly after the Luna came rushing to the elevator. “Is it time for the talk?” she asked eagerly. Now I am confused. The Alpha and Luna, both wanted to speak to me? “You are just in time my love. Celeste, are you coming?” He asked me as I stood there frozen. I walked into the elevator and hit the button for the 10th floor. It was a quiet ride. But I was used to them. The amount of time I have spent in my office that the Luna prepared for me was questionable. But with my history, being alone was my go to. We got to the 10th floor and I stepped out of the elevator and waited for the Luna and Alpha to exit. The Alpha walked right to his door and opened it for his Luna and myself. “Have a seat Celeste. This may take some time. Love, will you mind link and let everyone know that we are unavailable as we are discussing plans with Celeste?” Luna Sky nodded her head and he looked back at me. “When were you going to tell me that you are that natural heir to the Estrella pack?” He looked up at me and I was lost. “What do you mean, Sir?” 8I was not the heir to the pack. My parents were ordinary pack members. “Let’s start with your history darling.” The Luna came and sat next to me on the couch. “What is the earliest memory you have?” I started to think about it. Then I realized, the earliest memory I had was when my brother was born. That is five years of my life that was gone. “I don’t remember anything prior to Austin’s birth.” I stated. “That will explain why you don’t remember us or your true identity.” Luna Sky reached for my hand. “There is so much you need to know and we don’t have much time to tell you. Jonah will be home in the next a few days and if we are correct it will explain why you haven’t found your mate.” “I’m sorry Luna, but did you say that I didn’t know my true identity?” I questioned her. What in the hell did she mean by true identity. “Celeste, your family history is the only thing you are missing from your identity. Everything about you is correct except for whom your father is. You, my dear, are the natural heir to the Estrella pack. One reason that it is undergoing renovations is because, the Elders and other Alphas have decided to give you the pack in full which is why we have not undergone the ceremony adding you all into the pack. My Dear, Alpha Martinez is your biological father. When he met your mother and found out they were mates, he gave into the pull of the bond he had from your mother and she ended up pregnant with you. Unfortunately, later the next day he formally rejected her. She didn’t realize that the one night was going to wind up with her pregnant.” I sat there in shock. My previous Alpha was my father? That means that yes; I am the next Alpha in line. I looked at Alpha Herrera and tears began to pool in my eyes. “How can someone harm their child in such ways that he did to me? I spent most of my life hiding from him. He is the one that gave me the scars on my back.” I let the tears fall as the Luna hugged my shoulders. “It is our understanding that he didn’t realize that he was harming his own child. Rather he thought that you were the product of your mothers’ second chance mate. Which, happens to be the man that raised you. “I’m so sorry Alpha and Luna Sky, but this is so much information for me to take in right now. And what does this have to do with Jonah?” I love Jonah. He isn’t my mate but he has become a great friend to me since we have arrived. He actually left a few weeks ago and had gone to another packs home to bring some help back with him. With the project I have drawn up for the expansion, we were going to need the help of some of the other packs. Jonah, volunteered to go and gather some of the other pack members for assistance on the project. “Jonah believes he may know who your mate might actually be. And he is bringing a few of his friends’ home with him. No he did not intend to go searching for your mate. He went to get help with the project. Which before we continue this topic can we review what you have so when they get here they can get right to work?” The Alpha halted the conversation. I grabbed my portfolio and flipped through some of the sketches I had drawn up and went for the one I did specifically for the Lotus pack. “It is a rough draft, but since you have turned down the last six drawings I’ve done, I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t spending so much time sketching and did a rough draft.” I showed the Luna first and she gasped. “Darling, this is it. This is the plans that I had visualized.” The Luna had approved it on the spot. The Alpha set the plans on his desk and looked through them. “Did you see how much more land we would need to purchase?” He went over the sketch. “You actually won’t need to purchase any more land. That is actually why I was gone the other day. I pulled up the deeds for the property surrounding the border and it looks like you have the pack on only a portion of the land that is rightfully yours. Technically, your land ends where the Estrella Pack land begins.” I pulled out the property lines on a map and put them on the whiteboard that was sitting empty. “The only cost will be materials and labor. I suggest breaking the border down at this wall and expanding out here. It’s further from the humans while still keeping distance. In the end with materials you are probably looking at around fifty thousand dollars.” I finished my presentation and sat there in silence. “Did you say $50,000? That is so low. How did you come across the materials?” “Well sir, being a female, unmated wolf has its perks. As long as my name is the main name on the project, it won’t go over that.” The Luna started laughing. “What did you promise the poor fellow?” She asked me as she was laughing. “A date and I already went on it. He was a gentlemen but still not my mate. I have a few others to go on with him but he said that they are to just make his true mate jealous so she will accept him.” The Alpha gasped. “The lengths of what mates will do to get each other to accept the other.” He shook his head. “The project is yours. And you can add an additional twenty grand for yourself. I’m not going to not pay you. But you will need to oversee this project and make sure it goes smoothly.” I squealed with excitement.  I dug through my folder and grabbed out the contract. “Alpha, I will need you to sign this. And Luna can you act as a witness?” She nodded her head and signed after the Alpha. “I plan on having this project done in the next year. Unfortunately, with some of the property being habitats to other animals, I want to make sure we move them at a slower pace rather then move them so suddenly. Now, Alpha, what if I don’t accept my position as Alpha of The Estrella Pack?” “Right back to business, I like it. The pack will be erased from the books and only the past will be known. It is a lot to take in, but you have a few days to decide. Is there any other questions you have for us?” “Not really sir. I’m kind of torn about Alpha Martinez being my father. Especially, with what he did. Not only to me, but the pack as well.” Suddenly there was a knock at the door. I started packing the proposal up as the Alpha had gone to answer the door. Once the door opened, the most amazing smell hit me. Fresh falling rain on crisp linen sheets. I stood up straight and went to turn but felt myself being picked up and pushed into the wall. I opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful set of green eyes. “Looks like you are my mate.” His voice was deep and made me melt. “My name is Celeste, and you are?” “You are going to put her down and introduce yourself the proper way.” I heard Jonah say. “Jonah, you’re home!” The man put me down and I walked over to give Jonah a hug. I heard him growl behind me. “She is my best friend man. I’ve gotten her through the toughest time in her life. I am allowed to hug her. Celeste, this is Jake or Jacob. Whichever you prefer since he is your mate.” Jonah introduced us. “Jacob, huh. Nice to meet you.” “And you Angel.” Abigail was starting to purr now that we have actually had a chance to look at him. Jacob is six foot eight inches tall. Muscular, but not overly muscular. Short, black hair styled with a fade. He had jeans and a black shirt on. The calluses on his hands showed that he was a hard worker. I’m not going to lie, he was really good looking. “Jake here is the lead trainer at the Sunset Pack down south. He will only be able to be with us for a short period of time, although I’m beginning to think that might actually change now. He has to get back to make sure the training is going smoothly.” Just as I find my mate I only get to keep him for a short period of time until he must return to the pack that he belongs to. I took a deep breath and decided that I was going to have to play this safe.
