Pandora's Box

I am so excited right now because tomorrow we will go to one of the places that I only dreamt of going. To the Prism State where all aspiring biologists like me are geeking out just thinking about it. Thanks to my friend Alexander, I had the chance of a lifetime to go there. By the way I am Jennifer Guevarra and I am only one year away before finishing my masteral in biology. Prism state is a country isolated from the rest of the world by a barrier that’s never been closing, because of an asteroid that contains a foreign parasitic bacterium that mutates its host forming a new life form, and we are calling them Astro Formers, and there is so much little information about them which makes us wonder. The nature of human kind, always curious to the unknown, such as I am. It’s like a dream come true when I read Alexander’s text to me that night that I am invited on a one-month trip to that place, his sister, Dr. Sarah is a head researcher in one of the labs inside the said country. That’s why he has the privilege to go there. I wish that’s my sister. Because of that asteroid the economy of the whole world, especially in the electricity department, has dropped significantly and the world government decided to let all of the countries to contribute to electric supply so that they can power up that barrier and prevent any future outbreaks from happening. With that, countries are forced to adapt and develop a way to supply the demands between theirs and Prism State and that’s why High-Tech Hydro Power Plant were created or HTHP, only powered by the running ocean, and to conserve the planet’s health, this revolutionary innovation by the world made the human life much more efficient and better. Electric fees went down significantly and that’s why even the poorest people in the world have lights in their home. Although, that does not change the fact that other human activities that harmed the planet also stopped. It’s always there, and I am sad to see that there are still species enlisted in endangered species and so on. One week from now we are finally going to Prism State, boarding the Private Jet owned by Leon, thanks to that that I can have a comfortable flight. I have so many plans going to that place, what new species created by that Parasitic Bacteria has been already contained and studied, and so much more information. The news said that the bacterium doesn’t interact with human body and I don’t believe that lie. It’s obviously to ease the panic of the masses but for me and people like me, thinks that there is something more into it, and that is my main goal when I get there. I will get as much information as I can and study it. I don’t intend on showing it to the public. I just want to know about life more. That’s why I became a biologist in the first place, life fascinates me and that’s pretty much it. When I was a kid, I always enjoyed species interacting with each other. How plants benefit us and other animals, and animals that hunt other animals to survive. Life is full of wonders. Foreign species from our planet, is just only a theory until that asteroid hit Russia. That’s why I can’t help it but to wonder. How does foreign species behave? And how they will interact with our biome? There are so many wonders that is waiting for me to be untold. Person like me that is living outside that country only gets limited information from the officials and data coming from that place is always labeled as highly classified information. One month is more than enough for me, as my friend Jose, has prepared the tools that I will be needing when I get there. Also, my sister Cheryl will be coming along with us since we can invite as much people as we want. Well, Cheryl only wanted to come because she knew that Leon is coming too. I know that my sister and Leon has something going on between them, and both of them are already in their legal age. That’s why I am letting them and I believe that my sister has to learn in life on her own instead of continuously depending on me for advices. I do give her advice sometimes. Even the flight is one week from now, I am preparing all my art materials, since I want to draw the creatures there, I am confident with my skills after all, and all the utilities that I am going to need. I can’t help it but to wonder, does all the Astro Formers infected creatures behave the same? I only have a glimpse of the creatures from the news but no further information. All that I know right is that they come in many forms. Now time to call this a day and text Alexander about the flight this coming weekend. After texting him, I continue on packing my clothes and I waited for Alexander’s reply for more information. Like what time we are going to leave or the meet up in the airport. That’s why. I waited for a couple of minutes and now I am packing all my notebooks inside the bag. I put in one by one carefully organizing it inside and at least it may look presentable to others who dare open my bag. That’s how kind I am. I am so thoughtful. There I saw a familiar notebook and I grab it to have a closer look on that notebook. Oh, I remember this, this is the one that made me passionate about biology, well, you see I aspire to be an artist once but I one time, it’s just plain boring day and I am in the middle of a field waiting for my dad to finish his business. All that he left with me is a pencil and this notebook. I remember how I drew the animals on that field and at the same time I was entertained just by watching them. After that I watched documentaries in science channels which led me to this path. I felt my phone vibrated and saw Alexander texted me back. “6 am, all in. Be ready for our new journey.”
