A little girl sang as she flapped her hands around and jumped on her brother's bed to wake him up. The young boy grumbled, as he struggled to rub the sleep off his eyes. “Let me sleep for a little longer, princess!" He hissed, then turned around and pulled the covers over his head. The girl pouted but refused to give up and tried again. “Mama said you'll be late for school." She told him, pulling the covers off his face and kissing his cheek. “And there's pancakes!" Upon hearing the word ‘pancakes’ the young wolf jumped up and tackled his sister with the blanket. His sister screeched and fought until he let her go. She fixed her blond hair and ran downstairs yelling a quick “I'll eat all your pancakes!" “Happy sixteenth birthday, son!" His father said, patting his back as soon as he had gotten downstairs “Happy birthday, baby!" His mother pulled him in for a hug. “You can finally find your mate now!" She winked and the boy rolled his eyes. His family laughed at him, causing him to blush. “Happy birthday!" The youngest daughter of the family wished as she bit into a pancake. The boy smiled and kissed her syrup-covered cheek before sitting down and biting on a Nutella-filled pancake himself. Once he reached his school, he ran to his classroom, being late yet again. “Again, dude?" His friends grumbled as he threw his books on the desk and shrugged. Only a few minutes into the class the most amazing scent hit his nostrils-lavender and eucalyptus. Just then, a girl with purple hair and winged eyeliner entered the classroom. “Class, this is our new student-Raven Varlet. Please, make her feel welcome!" The teacher said. The boy didn't hear him, his wolf was going crazy in his head. His eyes flickered to a deep shade of gold with lust. “Mate!" Both of them said in unison. The girl leapt herself into his arms as they both inhaled each other's scents and took everything about the other in. They studied every feature with great detail until the teacher interrupted their moment. “I know how special mates are, so you two go home and get to know each other, I'll see you both tomorrow!" The students both grinned and walked out hand in hand, ignoring the jealous looks their classmates were throwing at them. Not only because they were leaving school early, but also because Raven's mate was one of the hottest boys in school. All the she-wolves were fuming with jealousy. The boy called his parents and told them the happy news, his mother crying with joy. At dinner time Raven was invited over to meet her mate's family. “Girls, Mom, Dad, this is mate-Raven Varlet." “Varlet?" His father thought quietly, the surname sounding quite familiar. “Oh my, she is beautiful! Welcome to the family sweetheart!" The boy's mother engulfed Raven in a warm embrace. The girl smiled sweetly and bent down to meet her mate's sisters. “Hi girls! I love your dresses! You're both so beautiful!" She smiled. The younger girl smiled back and whispered a shy “Thank you!" while the older one stared at her, observing her every move. “What's wrong, sis?" The teenager asked, taking a protective stance in front of his soulmate. His sister's eyes lingered on Raven for a few more seconds, but she said nothing as she finally looked away. “Honey, don't be rude to our guest!" Their mother scolded. “Sorry, mama! She mumbled. “I like your purple hair!" The young girl finally whispered and took a strand to take a closer look at it. But the little girl never stopped sending glances Raven's way. She felt something was off, but had no idea what. After all, she was only a child. The family talked throughout the night until it got too late for the two young girls to be awake. “Come on girls, time for bed!" Their mother stood up and extended both of her hands out for each daughter to take. “No, I don't wanna!" The younger one protested. “Come on, sis, I can tell you a story if you come with me." The slightly older one suggested. Her sister threw her arms up in surrender, hiding the small smile that had tugged on her lips. “Goodnight!" The girl wished, practically running up the stairs, not even waiting for her mother. “Will I see you again?" The younger sister asked sadly. “Of course, you will, often!" Her brother reassured her. With that, the girl happily skipped over to her mother and took her hand as the woman led her up the stairs. The older sister was already dressed in her pyjamas and was in the bathroom brushing her teeth. When she got out, she found her mother dressing her younger sister. “What was that about?" The mom asked her daughter, not taking her eyes off of the buttons she was fixing. “I don't like her." The girl sighed. “Sweetie, she hasn't done anything to you! You know we don't hate people for no reason." Her daughter nodded with another deep sigh and sat on her bed, waiting to be tucked in. The mom placed her other daughter in bed, kissed her cheek, and tucked her in before moving to the other girl and doing the same. After she was done she mouthed a quick “Goodnight!" turning off the lights and leaving the room. “Do you like her?" The sister sat up and asked the younger girl. She yawned before replying. “Yes, she is pretty and nice!" The eight-year-old nodded to herself in the dark and turned away from her sister. Maybe it was all in her head. After all, she was only a child with a wild imagination. Weeks went by and the mates got to know each other. The boy was head over heels in love with Raven and it seemed that she too was just as in love with him. Within the first week, they were proudly displaying each other's marks. The blonde eight-year-old never came to terms with Raven, especially after her brother started hanging out more and more with his mate. He spent almost all his time with her, leaving none for his sister. The siblings were very close before so the little girl couldn't understand why she was all of a sudden abandoned. “Do you want to play hide and seek?" She asked, feeling hopeful. “Sorry, sis, I'm meeting Raven!" He rubbed the back of his neck. “How about we play tonight when I get back?" “It was our favourite game." She whispered sadly, tears flooding her eyes. He knelt down in front of her, brushing a tear away. “Ok, tell you what, why don't you come over to her house with me and we could hang out together?" The girl wiped her eyes, a thought suddenly popping up. She nodded and quickly put her jacket on. Her brother shifted into his wolf and ran with her on his back to his girlfriend's house. Raven happily greeted the little girl and pecked her mate's lips. “Why don't you go check out the house while we figure out what to do?" She suggested. The child agreed, curiously walking around the house. It wasn't very interesting, resembling any other house she's ever been to until she reached a particular room that caught her attention. The door was black, unlike the rest of the doors, which were white. She cautiously turned the knob and was met with purple walls full of posters and black furniture. She looked around, hoping no one would see her as she was aware that snooping was naughty. Once she was inside, she couldn't help but open drawer after drawer. She thought that if she found Raven's makeup she could put it on and become pretty. Maybe then her brother would love her again. She snooped around the drawers, finding some underwear in the process. She grimaced and giggled to herself before going back to searching. Soon enough, she found something interesting, but it wasn't makeup. It was a very pretty book with words she couldn't quite understand, which was weird because she knew how to read. The book was also purple and had pictures of different herbs and flowers. The little girl flipped page after page until she heard her brother calling for her. Putting her hands behind her back, she crept down the stairs and made sure there wasn't anybody who could catch her before bolting the rest of the way downstairs and hiding the book under her jacket. When she and her brother were getting ready to leave she put the book behind her back, shoving it in under her shirt, and made sure that her brother walked in front of her. Later that night, she showed her mother her treasure, but she didn't have the reaction the girl expected. Instead, the colour drained from her mother's face and she frantically called for her husband. ,,Is this what I think it is?" She asked with trembling hands and passed him the book. “Where did you get that?" He asked through gritted teeth. “Honey?" Her mother turned to her as her father tried to gather himself from the shock that his young daughter was carrying a forbidden item around. Witches were forbidden and sentenced to death almost a century ago. The Elders of the werewolf council believed witches were evil beings, too powerful to roam freely. A very small amount of them managed to avoid their fate, but if they were ever found they were immediately burned to ashes. “I took it from Raven's room." Their daughter looked at her feet, ashamed. “Sorry!" She mumbled, more to herself than anyone in particular. Her parents gasped in shock, both of them running up the stairs and bolting into their son's room, almost knocking the door off its hinges. “Did you know?" Their father's roars shook the house. The shocked boy looked at the faces of his angry parents, wondering what he did wrong. “That your mate is a witch! Did you know?" He jumped from the bed, trying to rein his wolf from taking control at the insult of his mate. “My mate is not a witch, father, and I would appreciate it if you were careful with how you spoke about her!" He growled lowly. The conversation was long and hard, ending up with both mother and son in tears. “I can't lose her!" The boy cried into his mother's shoulder. She whispered soothing words in his ear until exhaustion caught up with his body and he fell asleep. His father immediately ran to the packhouse and explained the situation to their alpha, pleading for mercy over their son. The evil alpha wasted no time in preparing a fire and ordering for Raven to be burned. “Why didn't you tell me?" The boy asked angrily. “I didn't want to lose you!" Raven cried. “I love you so much!" She managed to scream as her body was forcefully thrown into the fire. Screams of agony filled the air, right in front of the eyes of her devastated mate. The teenager stood frozen until the pain of the breaking bond hit him and he collapsed to his knees. The two teenagers' screams mixed together, piercing the pack members' ears. He cursed the Alpha as tears streamed down his face. His mother fell to the floor with him and held him as he beat his fists on the ground until they bled. His father helped him get home and carried him up the stairs as he had no strength. His sisters stood next to their bedroom door, crying as they saw their brother's state. The eight-year-old girl walked over and caressed his large, bleeding hand with her small one. “Are you ok?" She asked, genuinely concerned. Her brother gripped her hand, almost breaking it.“This is all your fault! I hate you! One day I'll kill your mate the same way you killed mine!" He screamed at the now shaking child. His father slapped him across the face and he let go of the little girl as her mother held her small, shaking frame. “It's ok, you're ok!" She cooed into her daughter's ear. The boy pushed his father back and shifted. As soon as he was out the door, he ran straight for the woods. No one tried to stop him, they knew he needed time to heal, and so they let him have it. Little did they know he wouldn't grieve, but he would make the biggest mistake of his life, succumbing to the dark side. Someone big and powerful approached him in the woods. At first, he protected himself, growing scared of the large wolf. “So you're my Raven’s mate." He said with no emotion in his voice. “She's alive. Follow me!" His Raven? He turned around and ran through the forest. The devastated mate didn't think clearly. All he wanted was a glimpse of hope. A possibility of seeing his soulmate again, so he followed the man without giving it a second thought. Much to his words, Raven was there. Alive and ok. They leapt into each other's arms, as if they had been separated for eternity. “But how?" He asked, inhaling her scent, reassuring himself that it was really his mate, who he had just watched burn. “My ashes came back. A spell I put on myself because of the dangers of being a witch." She explained. “If you fight with us to take revenge, on those who hurt her, you can come to see her here. If not, say goodbye." The creepy man explained. The boy didn't even think about it. “My family, especially my sister, will pay dearly!'' He spat, his eyes flickering to black with anger. “I'm in! Who are you again?" “They call me The Lord."
