The Monster Machine

When the world was new and the truth about the Earth was being discoverd, a dominat species known as Humans rose to power. Their ingenuity and intelligence could not be matched. As time progressed, they made many inventions in technology, engineering, science, medicine, entertainment, and many other things. Their goal was to make life worth living. To be happy and prosporous, and the purpose of their invention where to make their complicated lives easier to live, so they could be safe, find peace, and explore everything the Earth had to offer. And although those things seemed great in their minds, humans weren't perfect. They never were. As time progressed with their inventions, so did their ignorance and lack of empathy. There were more problems than there were solutions, and it seemed the more they tried to fix things, everything else got worse. Overpopulation, international conflicts, famine, drought, sickness, natural disasters, war, misinformation, neglect, deforestation, rising sea levels, excessive amounts of trash and waste, exploitation of resources, and lack of human empathy was a threat that rose higher than the hopes of finding success of their inventions. Their idea of a utopia was nothing more than a forgotten dream. Many tried to raise awareness of what they were doing to the Earth. To their home. But they were unsuccessful. Some people listened, but they never bothered to put it on their list of urgent priorities. Others ignored the cry for help and even more refused to believe that it was nothing more than conspiriacy to try and topple their already crumbling societal structure. There were bigger things that they had to take care of. Or so they told themselves. "Things will get better," they said as everything got worse. "I hope things will be better," they said as everyone gave up and lost both their hope and faith in everything. "Things can't get any worse than this..." they said as it most assuredly did. And even then, as they hoped and wished and prayed, no one did anything. They merely hoped and wished and prayed. As if that would solve their unsurmoutable problems. And one day, the Earth decided it had had enough. Without warning, their home began to crumble before their feet. Their foundations collapsed and almost all at once, their lives, their creations, their inventions were all being swallowed. Casualties were high. All the threats they faced over the course of their existence were nothing compared to this. And for a moment, it really seemed like this was to be the very end of the Humans. But before it was too late, engineers, architects, and scientists from all over all came together for one last effort to save what remained of the human race. Where they believed the first Humans had emerged from was the very place where they had to return to. Though their efforts were... mildly successful, they were forced to leave so much of themselves behind just to be given a chance to survive. Their past was forgotten, borders and boundaries were abandoned and languages became mixed, forgotten and sometimes unrecognizable. And still, their ignorance and lack of empathy continued to grow. The only thing the Humans could agree to focus on was survival. And to escape the destruction they were responsible for. And this, on the brink of human extinction, is where our story starts.
