Kiara's life took a unexpected turn when she walked home to find her husband cheating. Not only that. She realised that they had been using her the entire time. Angered, she acted on impulse and commited a grave mistake. So she ran away, never to return.

However, fate had other plans for her. She was captured, chained, and assaulted by a group of gangsters. They forced her into submission, but she revolted, resulting in being rebuked.

Until she was saved by a mysterious person. A person who was way stronger than a normal human. A person who could make her knees weak and heart flutter with a simple touch. Who was he? And why does he keep calling her his mate?

Point of no return
Kiara Pressing my back against the cold pillar, I carefully listened to the quiet sounds. I hadn't expected anyone to be home since I had just returned from service. Not in our room, at least. My spouse informed me that he had an important work meeting. He was, however, obviously at home. The fact that I heard a female voice astounded me. A voice I recognised. She sounded like someone who was close to me. He said, "Kiara won't know." "Mmmmm," sighed a familiar feminine voice. I remained covered as I leaned forward, clinging as firmly as I could to the pillar. As I listened to them, my heart thudded hysterically. What exactly were they up to? What were they trying to keep from me? "I love this," he groaned, followed by shameless moans from my closest friend. Were they having an affair behind my back? It had been a few days since I first noticed my husband's change in behaviour. He appeared to be the same man I knew, but I had the notion he was concealing something from me. Things began to change after we discovered I was barren. He began to distance himself from me. I initially assumed he was just as broken as I was, and that he needed time to heal. However, this was not the case. It appeared that I was foolish and had placed my trust in the wrong people. I held my breath, unsure if I should investigate what was going on. I refused to believe what my conscience was telling me. I felt compelled to deny everything. I wanted to disprove my own logic. Maybe I was mistaken. Maybe they weren't being unfaithful to me... I peered out from where I was hidden, gulping down the massive lump in my throat, hoping to see something that would disprove my suspicions. What I saw, however, was enough to drive me crazy. My spouse, the man who vowed he would love me to the end, was making out with my best friend without shame. His hands scoured her curves in the same way that hers explored his frame. My heart splintered into a million pieces with each movement of their limbs and lips. I was unable to move. Tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, but I couldn't deny the truth. I averted my gaze and chewed the inside of my lower lip. Something had to be done to keep me from making any noise. I didn't want to let them know that I had seen them. Although I was a police officer, I also was a woman. As I watched being stabbed in the back by those closest to me, my heart broke. Was it my fault that I was infertile? It wasn't my fault in the least. I told myself this while wiping away my tears. They were both being unfaithful to me. "Oh, Danny," Joy murmured, drawing my attention to them. When I saw them, my sadness instantly turned to wrath. Daniel had slid his hand into her jeans after turning her around. Her shirt's buttons were undone, showing a portion of her creamy breasts. What filth! I scowled. They irritated me to no end. How could they stab me in the back with such glee? Was it all due to the fact that I was sterile? "Danny, wait! This isn't why I came here." Joy spoke up out of nowhere, writhing in his arms. "What, my sexy lady? When you come to see me don't expect me to keep my hands to myself. You have such a gorgeous figure," he complained loudly enough that I could hear him. My jaws were clinched as I swallowed the lump in my throat. He never referred to me as sexy or gorgeous. Not even a year after we got married. "But, Danny... the boss... ah..." When he shoved his hands farther into her jeans, Joy's voice drifted off. Yet it was the single word she spoke that threw me off. Boss? Who was it, exactly? "How about the boss?" Danny's tone changed abruptly. As he spoke, his tone was solemn, and his grip on her eased gradually. "He sent me as a messenger. He claimed there would be no excuses if you don't meet him in the shed tonight. He didn't like it when you didn't show up for today's meeting. He didn't want to call since he was being watched and his phone calls were being recorded by the cops. He didn't want to risk calling you and jeopardising your identity... you know... we're doing an excellent job spying on them. I'm delighted Kiara isn't aware of our secret," she stated I went completely still. My eyes widened. So they have been deceiving me the entire time. Joy was a newcomer to the neighbourhood. She moved in last year. She was nice, and we became friends fast. Joy had introduced me to Daniel. He turned out to be the perfect man for me. I mean, how foolish could I possibly be? Perhaps they had this in mind from the start. Maybe they were trying to get vital information from us to their boss. Rage coursed through my veins as my heart thudded furiously. So he never loved me. To them, I was nothing more than a puppet. My hand was gripping the pistol's handle, which was fully loaded. I had just returned from duty and was still dressed in my police uniform. I took a step forward, clenching my teeth. I took up my Glock and pointed it at the two rascals without thinking twice. When Danny realised what was about to happen, his eyes widened. He was about to take something from his pocket when Joy exclaimed. "Kia…." I didn't give them the opportunity to say anything. I had heard enough of it. I started shooting, oblivious to the repercussions. With each shot, their bodies trembled. Blood pooled at their feet, and they were soon both dead on the tiles. I didn't, however, come to a halt. I kept firing until I couldn't anymore, and when I couldn't, I was appalled by the sight I saw. I glanced at their lifeless bodies. Their garments were drenched in blood. Danny's bright blue shirt has turned into a dark red shirt. What have I done? I gradually lowered my hand, my rage dissipating. They had no choice but to die. They were the mafia lord's cronies, whom we were attempting to apprehend. And they were watching us work, most likely hindering our efforts to arrest the well-known underworld figure. Nonetheless... I took a step back. I shouldn't have killed them. I should have called for the assistance of my co-workers. I should have recorded and produced their conversation as proof. But it was too late now. I had let my rage get the best of me. As an officer, I had failed miserably. I lacked sufficient evidence to back up what I had heard from them. It was impossible for me to prove that they were the criminals. I hurried out the back door of the home and dashed towards the forest's big trees. Perhaps, living near the woods gave me an advantage at the time. I didn't know how much longer I had until they discovered I had murdered them. Most likely not long enough. The 'boss' would almost certainly try to contact them, and my co-workers would soon learn that I had assassinated them. In the city, I was no longer safe. I didn't turn back. I had no choice but to flee. I pushed myself to run as far as I could. I ran away… never to return.
