Fated Mates
Despite being a beta, Jensen's wolf is a dominant alpha. However, due to his past mistakes, he had no other option than to take on the beta position. His apartment, located on the second floor known as the "beta floor," has been his home for the past two years since becoming the beta to his brother's Alpha Parkers Blood Moon pack. He sits on his living room couch, his expression heavy with regret as he gazes at a photograph of his chosen mate, Lisa, and their young son, Chase. A knock on the door breaks his contemplation, causing his wolf, Roman, to stir within him. JENSEN: (whispering) Not now, Roman. I can't deal with you right now. Roman growls in protest, but Jensen stands up and goes to open the door. His best friend and fellow werewolf, Lance, stands in front of him. LANCE: Hey man, you don’t look too good. How's it going? JENSEN: I'm not feeling great. Lisa, my former partner, recently found her true mate and left me a text message wishing me and her son Chase the best in life. She's starting a new life with her fated mate, Oscar, and starting a family with him on his territory. LANCE: What do you mean? JENSEN: Well, because I never truly cared for her and my wolf, Roman, has been in an eternal battle with me, I was unable to mark her and break the bond. She found her fated mate as a result. LANCE: So she used you for years because you're a strong and powerful high-ranking wolf, only to leave you for a warrior from another pack? JENSEN: I couldn't bring myself to mark her, to fully claim her as my chosen mate. Roman has been irritatingly difficult about it since we first shifted. LANCE: But how could you have known that Lisa's mate would be a warrior from a neighboring pack? He was only here with his Alpha, Sam Jarge from the Winter Moon pack, to negotiate a treaty with your brother. If that treaty didn't go through, she would have never met her true mate. JENSEN: Look, I got her pregnant before even transitioning to my wolf, so I was never able to mark her to begin with. Even if I had, it would have severed the bond between them. Jensen's expression falls, his eyes clouded with memories of that fateful day when he first transformed into Roman. His wolf, dormant for so long, had erupted with a fierce anger and resentment towards Jensen for denying their destined mate. JENSEN: I regret it every single day. I never should have let Lisa seduce me. But we're wolves, it's in our nature to be sexually active even before shifting. Lance's mind races as Jensen reveals his inner turmoil. Standing up from the couch, he moves to sit next to Jensen, looking him up and down before suggesting they shift into their wolves and go for a run. LANCE: Why don't you shift into Roman and let him out for a run? It'll do you good and help clear your head. JENSEN: No, I'm fine for now. My wolf needs to calm down anyway. LANCE: What I don't understand is how Lisa could just leave her son and you to be with her mate. That's messed up. Wolves are fiercely protective of their pups. JENSEN: Lisa doesn't want Oscar to resent her or our son Chase. JENSEN: I know Chase has been struggling lately. My mom and Phoebe have been a huge help since then. LANCE: Come on, let me let my wolf Bo out. You can do the same for Roman? We'll go for a run together. JENSEN: Well” LANCE: Trust me, if you let Roman out to run, you'll feel better. You know that. And maybe you two can rebuild your bond. He's a part of you, Jensen. Let your wolf roam for a little while and strengthen your connection with him. I promise it'll do you good. Jensen took Lance's advice and decided to temporarily leave the pack in order to clear his head. He needed to go for a run, but he wanted to do it alone. Shifting into his large black wolf, Roman, Jensen ventured into the backwoods of the territory. He ran for hours, happily exploring the wilderness of Missouri. As he caught the scent of lavender and vanilla, Roman stopped in his tracks. Excitedly, ROMAN: Mate Mate I smell her and feel her close by ! Jensen realized that they had found their fade mate. JENSEN: I can’t Believe it “ ROMAN: It was a blessing that we had not marked Lisa, because somewhere in the distance is our true faded mate. Jensen watched through Roman's eyes as they noticed three girls sitting by a campfire . They all appeared to be in their teens. However, Jensen's excitement quickly turned to irritation when he realized that the girl was human. He was pissed off and told Roman that he would not accept her. They were having an internal battle, but Jensen lost control and Roman shifted back into his human form. Jensen was angry that Roman had decided to hibernate in the back of his mind. Feeling exposed and vulnerable, Jensen hid in the bushes, still naked, and used his wolf hearing to listen to the conversation between the girls. He learned that the girl's name was Crystal. She seemed to sense that someone was watching her, but she wasn't scared or uncomfortable. She turned to her friends, Jenny and Kay, and spoke to them. CRYSTAL: Hey girls, I think I’m head to bed and get early start in the morning. Crystal glances one last time direction where Jensen is still watching her. She goes and zips it up then gets ready for bed. Crystal stirred awake to the sweet symphony of birdsong and the gentle warmth of the sun's rays peeking through the flaps of her tent. A smile graced her lips as she stretched her limbs, eager for the adventure that awaited her. She was always the first one up, fueled by her insatiable love for camping. It was her sanctuary, a place where she could escape the mundane chaos of everyday life. But this trip, something felt off. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched all night, until the early hours of the morning. As she began to pack up their camping gear, her two friends, Jenny and Kay, stirred from their slumber, amused by her uncharacteristic early riser behavior. JENNY: Crystal, you seriously wake up earlier than the sun even on weekends. You're one of a kind. KAY: (chuckling) Yeah, but what's even funnier is how she never wants to hang out with us, but the moment Mr. Matthews mentioned the meteor shower, she was all for it. CRYSTAL: (smirking) Hey, when it involves being outdoors, count me in. You know I'm socially awkward, and I'm okay with that. Crystal joined in on the laughter, but the uneasiness still lingered. She tried to brush it off as nerves for the test they had the next day. Kay noticed the change in her demeanor and inquired about it. After some hesitation, Crystal confessed. CRYSTAL: (sighing) I don't know, I just can't shake off the feeling that someone or something was watching me all night. But it's probably just my nerves acting up, right? Kay dismissed her worries, assuring her that they would be heading back home soon anyway. KAY: (laughing) Ah, the Midwest. Always keeping us on our toes. Little did Crystal know, her instincts were spot on. Jensen, had been observing her all night. As he roamed the woods, shifting back into his human form, he caught a glimpse of Crystal and couldn't believe his luck. He had finally found his human mate. Jensen couldn't resist the urge to get closer to Crystal, so he followed her from a distance, staying hidden in the shadows. Jensen couldn't believe he was reduced to this, sneaking around like a common thief, just to cover his nakedness. But he couldn't risk being seen by Crystal and her friends, not when his heart was already torn in two. As he listened to their conversation, he couldn't help but feel a surge of disappointment and anger. How could he have a human mate, when his heart was so fiercely drawn to Crystal? The mate bond between them was so intense, it was almost suffocating. He felt like a creep, lurking in the bushes and watching them. But what else could he do? Roman, his wolf, was still fuming over Jensen's refusal to accept his human mate. Jensen had tried to shift back and return to his pack, but Roman's anger had kept him from doing so. ROMAN: "You should accept her, Jensen," "The moon goddess gave you another chance, and this is how you act? It's a damn shame to be your wolf." Roman growled from the back of his mind. Jensen's anger flared at Roman's words. He pushed his wolf further back into his mind and locked him out. He wouldn't let Roman dictate his actions, not when it came to matters of the heart. JENSEN: enough Roman”, since you won’t help me shift back, I can’t take matters into my own hands now. Thanks dickhead. With determination in his eyes, Jensen swiftly made his way to Jenny's truck. He knew he couldn't stay hidden in the bushes forever, and he needed clothes. He rummaged through the duffel bag and found a pair of pink sweatpants with the word "juicy" emblazoned across the rear end. Struggling to put them on, Jensen couldn't help but feel ridiculous. At 6 foot 8 with a muscular build, the pants barely reached his knees. But at least they covered his nakedness. Running back to the bushes, Jensen couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. He hated how he had to resort to this, but he also couldn't deny the thrill of being this close to Crystal. He just hoped she would never find out about his shameful actions. Jensen walked till he found a little gas station the back roads. Found a payphone and dialed his brother. JESEN: Parker I need you to come pick me up I’m off of Farm Road 195 and bring clothes PARKER: Well, good morning to you too brother. All right well I’ll send Lance out to your location. Why don’t you just try mine linking. JENSEN: Can’t Roman being a jerk right now I can’t access any of my inner wolf abilities unfortunately sauce tell you all about it when I get back home PARKER: I’ll be waiting Parker's heart raced with anticipation as he waited for Jensen to return home with Lance, eager to hear all about his brother's recent endeavors. Every second felt like an eternity until finally, the door swung open and Jensen stepped inside. Parker's excitement was palpable, radiating from every fiber of his being. He could sense that something monumental had occurred, and he couldn't wait to hear all about it. With bated breath, Parker hung on every word as Jensen began to recount the events of the day. His voice was filled with a hint of disappointment and anger lurking beneath the surface. Parker knew that his brother was struggling with the idea of having a human mate. In a world where supernatural creatures and humans were meant to remain separate, the thought was daunting. But Parker couldn't bear to see his brother suffer He knew that Jensen needed time to process and come to terms with the situation, but he also knew that he would always be there to support him, no matter what. PARKER: (With a determined tone) “My brother, do not let fear hold you back from true happiness. We will face whatever challenges may come together, as we always have. Trust in yourself and in your love for Crystal. That is all that truly matters." He reminded Jensen that love knows no boundaries, and that Crystal could very well be the one for him. But Jensen's mind was clouded with thoughts of their differences and the potential backlash from their pack. The weight of these concerns was written all over his face, and Parker could see the toll it was taking on his brother. JENSEN: She’s 15 I have 3 years before the moon got us involved in pushes her towards me since I’ve already found her. All I have to do is find another wolf or supernatural and mark them. and I can’t have a human as a mate. But Parker would not let Jensen give into fear. With a determined tone, PARKER: "My brother, do not let fear hold you back from true happiness. Parker's words echoed through the room, filling it with a sense of determination and hope. He knew that Jensen needed time to process and come to terms with the situation, but he also knew that he would always be there to support him, no matter what. Together, they would overcome any obstacle and prove that love knows no boundaries. If it wasn’t for his family, he’d be all alone, raising his son Chase packs take care of their own specially when it comes pups. As Jensen and Parker engaged in a deep conversation within the walls of Parker's Alpha office, Phoebe gracefully enters, her presence radiating warmth and love. With a gentle kiss on her husband's cheek, Alpha Parker, she turns her gaze to her nephew Chase, who eagerly jumps into his father's arms. Parker returns the affectionate gesture before Phoebe's soft voice interrupts their moment. PHOEBE: You know Jensen, we are not meant to be with humans. Crystal may not be just a mere mortal, but perhaps something greater, only appearing human to the rest of the world. You should look into that. JENSEN: Even so, I just have no urge to be with her, though my Ramen, might I just refuse to Jensen Son chasing that moment interrupts the conversation, showing Jensen his new toy. CHASE: Daddy, daddy, look what I got! Chase proudly displays his new Superman toy, a gift from his aunt Phoebe during their recent trip to the human town. Excited, he looks up at his father. JENSEN: That's pretty cool, buddy. PARKER: But remember, that's just a fake hero. We are the real deal. Parker's words are met with a grin from his nephew, who then watches in awe as Parker demonstrates his wolf abilities, growing claws with a simple flick of his hand. JENSEN: You know, Phoebe, I have to admit, you are the best sister-in-law I have ever had. With you and my mother's help, I don't need a mate. You both have done an incredible job in helping me raise my son. As Jensen rises from his chair, he holds his son tightly in his arms and makes his way out of the alpha office and onto the beta floor, towards his apartment. In that moment, he makes a firm decision to avoid and ignore the mate bond at all costs, even if it means losing his wolf. He is determined to push himself to be the best beta he can be and, above all, to be an exceptional father to his son.
