Chapter 2“Stay still!” Milo shouted in Japanese as he pressed the thrashing man underneath him down onto the wet and muddy ground in the forest.
It had been raining heavily on and off for more than two days in Tokyo, so Milo wasn’t surprised at the condition of the soil in the forest. Unfortunately, the rainwater washed away any tracks, and Milo had spent nearly twenty-six hours trying to capture this abomination now trapped under him. The man’s name was Kenji Takahashi. He was the second son of a prominent politician in Japan and a notorious womanizer. He had a wife and two young sons, but that didn’t seem to matter to him. Milo abhorred people like Kenji, but he put his personal feelings aside because the man needed his help.
“Let me go!”
Milo snorted in amusement as Kenji struggled to break free. “Not a chance, buddy.”
Kenji’s eyes flashed red, and there were dark blue lines crisscrossing his entire face. Milo sighed. This was a classic case of possession by an evil spirit. Milo quickly pulled out a bottle of red ink from the pocket of his jeans, opened it, and dipped his left index finger into it before drawing the symbol of an ancient rune on Kenji’s forehead. He sneered when Kenji’s eyes widened. The evil spirit in Kenji’s body must know that its fate was about to be sealed, and it screeched at Milo, but he easily ignored it. He stared into Kenji’s eyes and muttered a silent spell to activate the rune. In an instant, the rune glowed a brilliant electric blue.
After that, Kenji hissed like a snake right before black smoke started to come out from his mouth before it disappeared into the soil. Milo held Kenji down for a while longer until the smoke stopped slithering out through the man’s mouth before he exhaled loudly in utter relief and exhaustion. Kenji wasn’t moving anymore. Milo checked on Kenji’s pulse to make sure that the man was still alive. It was weak, but at the very least, Kenji survived to see another day. Then Milo was startled when he heard the crunching sound of someone’s foot stepping on a tree branch from somewhere behind him. That was immediately followed by a gentle applause. Milo turned around, readying himself to face another adversary. However, he ended up chuckling under his breath when he recognized the person who was clapping for him.
“Hey, baby.”
“Hey, yourself,” Milo greeted in return, and he slowly got up to his feet. “When did you get here?”
“Around five o’clock this morning,” Jensen replied. “New York time. Six o’clock at night in Tokyo. Harris and I departed from New York at seven last night. Anyway, right after dinner, I slept for the remainder of the ten-hour flight.”
“Lucky,” Milo said. “I’ve been awake for nearly thirty-six hours. What time is it now?”
“Almost nine,” Jensen answered before he peeked at Kenji’s body. “Who’s the guy?”
“Kenji Takahashi,” Milo answered. “The second son of one of the most powerful politicians in Japan. I hate him.”
“Which one?”
“Kenji,” Milo clarified without bothering to conceal the disgust from his tone of voice and expression.
“Why?”
Milo gazed into Jensen’s eyes. “Why do you think?”
Jensen was quiet for a second or two before his facial expression showed that he figured it out. “Oh! He’s the cheating kind, isn’t he?”
“Yeah,” Milo confirmed. “But I can’t allow the damn evil spirit to take control over him and eventually kill him. I’m an exorcist, and it’s my responsibility to rid the world of such an entity.”
“He deserves it.”
“True,” Milo agreed, and he turned around to sneer at Kenji in distaste before facing Jensen once again. “Enough about Kenji. Please tell me you didn’t walk all the way to the forest.”
Jensen scoffed. “Of course not. The car is parked at the edge of the forest. Harrison is waiting for us.”
Milo smiled a little. “And I’m sure he has already prepared a towel and a fresh set of clean clothes for me to change into after I’m done with my shower.”
Jensen grinned. “You can bet your sweet ass on it.”
Milo snickered. “Down, boy!”
“It’s your fault.”
“My fault?”
“Yeah. Watching you in action always arouses me and makes me desperate to f**k you.”
Milo rolled his eyes. “You’re always horny.”
“I blame you for being too sexy and good-looking.”
“Whatever,” Milo retorted before activating one of the runes on his arm by tracing his left index finger over it. Then he aimed his hand toward Kenji’s body, and in an instant, the man’s body floated off the ground. “Let’s get back to the car.”
“Sure,” Jensen responded before leading the way.
Milo followed Jensen without bothering to check on Kenji’s body. He had faith in his magic, and he knew without a shadow of a doubt that Kenji’s body would tail him and Jensen all the way to the car.
“Have you already checked in at a hotel?”
Jensen shook his head. “I figured you must have a room somewhere.”
Milo nodded. “I do.”
Jensen leered at Milo. “Can’t wait to get back to the hotel. My hard d**k has a long overdue appointment with your tight ass. It has been a week since we last had sex.”
Milo chortled. “Is that all you can think about?”
“Yeah. What’s wrong with that?”
Milo sighed. “I guess the romance in our relationship is officially dead now. I’m nothing more than a warm hole for you to park your c**k in.”
Jensen looked stricken immediately. “Baby, you know I love you.”
Milo forced himself not to lose it, but he couldn’t hold back for more than a few seconds. Jensen’s facial expression was hilarious. Amusement overwhelmed Milo, and he burst out laughing.
“Relax, man. Just teasing you.”
Jensen seemed stunned for a second or two before he glared at Milo. “Just for that alone, I’ll spank you later when we get back to the hotel room.”
Milo winked at Jensen. “Is that a promise?”
Jensen visibly gulped. “f**k yeah!”
“Good,” Milo said. “Let’s change the topic for the time being. Not the right time and place for it.”
Jensen chuckled softly. “Sure. What do you want to talk about?”
“How was everything back home in my absence? And what about your parents?”
“Financially, everything was well,” Jensen replied. “Still is, I’m sure. My parents asked about you when I met them yesterday. They missed you.”
Milo smiled. “I miss them, too.”
“You will get to see them in two weeks’ time.”
“I know. I have one more assignment here in Tokyo. Then we can return to New York.”
“Sure. I’ll accompany you, and we can fly home together.”
“Okay.”
After that, neither of them exchanged a single word as they made their way out from the forest. Milo was telling the truth about how he felt regarding Jensen’s parents. His own parents had passed away when he was only eleven years old, and none of his relatives had been willing to take him in because of what they dubbed as his freakishness. In reality it had been nothing other than his magical ability acting up and manifesting in accidental feats of weird incidents.
His magic had made things so much more difficult and complicated for him. Fortunately, a magical couple had adopted him, and growing up in that household, his natural magic developed and flourished. However, tragedy struck on his twentieth birthday. A powerful demon killed both of his adoptive parents, along with some other members of the coven they belonged to. Milo had lived on his own for about one year before he and Jensen started dating. The rest was history.
“I can’t imagine what life was like back in the twentieth or twenty-first century.”
Milo glanced in Jensen’s direction. “That’s such a random thought.”
“I had plenty of time as I made my way from the airport all the way here.”
“Did you track me using the signal on my phone?”
Jensen smirked. “Harris did.”
Milo chuckled. “Harris is certainly worth every penny of the salary you’re paying him.”
“That’s why I overpay him,” Jensen retorted. “My life will be a mess without him.”
“Mine, too,” Milo admitted. “Anyway, back to your weird thought about what life was like for people in the previous centuries.”
“What about it?”
“What do you have in mind?”
Jensen was quiet for a second or two. “Do you know that people used to fly fourteen hours just to get from New York to Tokyo? That’s insane. Ten hours in the air are tiring enough.”
“The technologies were less advanced back then.”
“And people used to drive their own cars,” Jensen added. “Or any other motorized vehicles for that matter. That was crazy, and it was such a waste of their time and energy. They could have used the time to work.”
Milo nodded. “That’s why we should be glad that we live in the twenty-second century.”
“True.”
After that, the two of them proceeded to list out the things they were grateful for, and soon, they reached the edge of the forest. Milo smiled and waved when he noticed Harrison standing in front of the car. As expected, Harrison was holding a set of fresh new clothes and towel for Milo in one hand. He even had a new pair of shoes in the other hand. Milo grinned at Jensen.
“Remind me to double Harrison’s year-end bonus.”
Jensen nodded. “Noted.”
After that, Milo accepted the clothes, shoes, and towel from Harrison before he got into the car. He made sure to place Kenji somewhere toward the back of the car before making his way into the bathroom. He desperately needed a warm shower, a sumptuous dinner, and then a long, restful sleep. He also missed s*x with Jensen. Unfortunately, he still had to deliver Kenji back to his parents first before he, Jensen, and Harrison could head over to the hotel. He groaned a little at the thought, but he would rather get it over with. Then he and Jensen could reconnect with each other to their hearts’ content.
