Chapter 3

1239 Words
Unknown's POV I lean back in my chair and stare at the dust particles highlighted by the ray of sunlight streaming through the bay window. Glancing down at my desk, I once again try to make sense of the script and symbols on the parchment of paper. Growling in frustration, I swipe at the paper and it flutters to the ground, landing near a moist area on the old wood floor. I scramble to pick it up before it gets damaged and stop suddenly. The moistened end of the parchment turns a different shade of brown and on it, another line of script appears. I lift the paper up to the light to look at it closer when there is a knock on my door. "What is it?" I yell at the unknown intrusion. "The elders have called a meeting sir. Your attendance is required" came the scared voice of my butler on the other side. An elder meeting? Interesting. "Very well. Confirm my attendance" I shout across the room. His retreating footsteps can be heard over the wooden floor. I return my attention to the script, only to look up again in confusion. The elders have not called a meeting in years without it going through the Alpha first. For the summons to come through the elders and not from the Alpha makes it all the more interesting. I fold the paper and replace it in my desk drawer and lock it safely. Grabbing my coat, I glance back towards my old, moldy office. Soon, I shall reside in much higher standard dwellings. Soon, they will all kneel before me and my every word. A sinister smile envelopes my face as I turn and close the door. Very soon, it will all fall into place. Eliza's POV Sitting across from the headmaster in his office, I chew on my bottom lip impatiently. I've been here for about half an hour now while he continues to browse through my transfer paperwork and keeps glancing at his door. The sound of the door opening causes me to turn around to see who was joining us. The tall figure steps into the office and I let out an audible gasp. The man was over six feet tall, and had the body of a Greek god. Clad in dark grey karkis and a white shirt, he walks slowly towards the chair next to me and sits down. "Sorry I'm late Headmaster Collins. My lab ran a bit later than usual" he says apologetically. "Once you made it here without another fire breaking out Professor White" the older man replies. My head swivels in Greek god's direction with my mouth hanging open. "Uncle Ethan?!" I ask godsmacked. He chuckles softly before giving me a killer smile. "In the flesh Eliza. It's good to finally see you again. It's been a long time" he rubs the back of his neck nervously. "The years have been really good to you" I reply, trying to hold back the urge to rub my eyes for clarity. The headmaster clears his throat and we're both reminded that there was a third person present to our exchange. Facing forward again we wait for him to continue. "Well then, everything seems to be in order. Miss Cade can proceed to her assigned classroom and she will be given her schedule later on today. I trust that is to your liking Miss Cade?" he looks at me over the papers in his hand. "Sure, whatever works" I respond, earning myself a brief nod and then I'm ushered out the office by my new and improved uncle. As we step out the admission office into the main hall, I stop short. "So do I call you uncle Ethan or professor?" He turns to face me, raising his hand to scratch his head as if not sure himself. "Ethan is fine. The uncle part makes me feel old" he laughs half heartedly. "Okay, cool. And I guess you're also my home room teacher according to this" I wave the admission paper in my hand. "Yup, so it seems. Come on, I'll show you to your class" he says and leads the ways down the hall. We pass a few classrooms on the way as well as the library for this floor. Ethan explained that the school has four floors in each of the three buildings. Each floor has its own library and computer laboratory for the comfort of the students on each floor. I nod in silence as he continues to give me the micro tour and almost bump into him when he stops suddenly. His attention is on an open door to the music room and he walks towards it. "Hi Luca, can you lock up when you're done, thanks" he continues on and I follow him. As I pass the open door, I glance in and my eyes collide with the cold grey stare of the guy who helped me on the stairs. I stop dead in my tracks as he looks at me through hooded eyes. He turns away from the grand piano he was seated infront off and angles his body on the seat to face me at the open door. I take a step back and look down at my feet momentarily. " Don't trip on the floor this time" came the smooth, heavy voice from inside the room, and a shiver runs up my spine. I look up in time to see his smirk before he turns back his attention to the piano. Soft waves of music play from the room as his fingers dance across the keys. I remain standing there for a moment before I feel a hand on my shoulder, making me jump. "Whoa there! it's just me" Ethan looks at me apologetically as he places both hands at his sides. "Sorry, I zoned out for a bit" I respond quickly as I walk past the music room. He walks briskly to keep stride with me before leading me to a room almost at the end of the hall. I walk in behind him and stand awkwardly at the chalkboard at the front. The crowd of students quickly take their assigned seats before turning their undivided attention towards Ethan and myself. I clasp the admission paper in my hand as Ethan addresses the classroom. "Okay everyone. We have a new classmate joining us today. Please welcome Eliza Cade" He motions for me to step forward and introduce myself. Taking a deep breath I lift my head while squaring my shoulders. I'm about to open my mouth when a hooded figure enter the classroom through the back entrance and walks towards a desk by the back window. The hooded figure sits down and removes the hood. Cold grey eyes look back at me. A lopsided smile plasters his face as he leans back in his seat and stares me down. I turn my head to focus on the board at the back of the classroom. The words "BE HEADSTRONG, YOUR CHOICE, YOUR FUTURE!" are written across in bold letters. Nodding my head in acceptance I go ahead. "I'm Eliza Cade. It's nice to be here" I turn my head towards the back of the class with my renewed confidence but I'm now looking at a crouched hooded figure with his head buried in his arms on the desk.
