Chapter Two

1913 Words
-Gage POV- “We are at a standstill. There’s nothing we can do but wait.” Jessa, one of my generals says. “The other packs are neutral. They don’t want to get involved.” “Maybe we can try to infiltrate them again. Get them from the inside.” Floyd, also one of my generals, says. Besides my Beta and Gama, I have four generals. Jessa, Paul, Floyd, and Elena. “It’s impossible to infiltrate them. Hendrix has the place tightly secured.” Jessa says. I grind my teeth in anger. This is not what I want to hear. (I will kill him even if it’s the last thing I do.) For too damned long I have waited to sink my claws into him. The problem is that his pack and mine are two of the strongest and none of the other packs want to get involved in the feud. But we are better. We have more numbers and we have more experience in battle. “Then find a way. I want his head on a platter. No, I want to make him suffer first and then his head.” I say in a low tone. “I want him to feel the same pain he made me feel.” “His mate never leaves the packhouse so that will be very hard to achieve.” Paul says with caution. Elena grinds her teeth. “Man, if we could get our hands on her, that would be a game-changer.” Hendrix took everything from me. He killed my mate. I punch the table. “I am not asking. I am ordering. Find a way. Why the f**k does he always have the upper hand! How does he get to have everything he wants-” I stop and try to calm myself. This is personal for me. I killed his brother for what he did but that wasn’t enough. His brother was the Alpha of our pack. I came to him when I felt it. I felt my mate die. And Richard, Hendrix's brother, didn’t do a thing. Since children's, we always had a feud with each other but I never did anything to provoke him to the point where he would take my mate. Hendrix took my mate out of spite. He kidnapped her, took her to his pack, and then killed her and his brother just stood by and did nothing. So, I challenged him. I was so enraged that I tore Richard apart. That was eight years ago and now I am Alpha. But I want him, I want his head on a stick. He takes everything from me and then goes his merry way and gets everything I ever wanted. A mate, a child a pack that backs him no matter what. No, I’ll take it all from him. He will suffer just as I have. “The neutral meeting.” I say. “What?” Jessa asks shocked. “We can’t.” Paul says. Max, my Beta finally talks. “That is suicide, Gage.” When he talks, I listen. He doesn’t talk unless there is something worth saying and he is usually right. “You know... with all that Hendrix taunts us every time we go to this meeting...” James, my Gama says. “...it’s like he wants us to do something there. That would make us targets for all other packs.” He is more laidback and gets bored easily in these situations but always has a good point too. I growl feeling irritated because I know they are right. James looks at me cautiously. “Look, Hendrix is not perfect. He’ll mess up. We just have to wait for the right time.” “That could be... thirty to forty years from now for all we know!” I shout and get up feeling agitated. James now straightens up and analyzes me, making sure it’s not my wolf in control. My wolf has no control, if he wants to kill someone or something, he does it without thinking it twice. Thankfully for James, I am still in control. James takes a deep breath. “Or it could be tomorrow. Only the goddess knows when.” I sit down and growl, wanting to punch something. I look at James. “I want to kill you.” I say lowly. “I know but thanks for not giving in to the impulse.” He says trying to make it a joke but its anything but that for me. He knows it’s my wolf who wants to do it. Being of Alpha blood means we are stronger, but so is our wolf and it is harder for us to keep them in check. I try my best though. Of course, having a mate makes it easier. Having a dead one is just chaos twenty-four/seven. “Alpha?” We are interrupted by one of my warriors. “What?!” I almost shout. “The Hunters are requesting an audience.” He says. “For f**k's sake!” I get up and go past the shaking pack member. Max and James follow me as I head to my office. “Grant them the audience.” I tell James and he immediately gets on it. “What the f**k do these shitheads want now?” I mumble as I sit on my desk. Max and I wait silently for about fifteen minutes when finally, James arrived with the Hunters behind him. “Alpha Gage.” The cocky-looking man says. “What do you want?” I spit out. “Your rogues are causing a problem in town.” The man says. I slap the desk. “My rogues? What rogues? Everyone in my pack is a pack member.” “You know well rogues are unruly. You can put them in a pack but they will do what they do best. Kill.” He says. I let rogues into my pack because it makes my numbers grow fast. It is not something common packs do because the Hunter is right. Rogues are a problem even if they are in a pack. But I am not admitting that to him. I get up from my chair. “Do you really think that any of my pack members would ever cross me?” I stare at the man who is now a little uncomfortable and is starting to smell of fear. “Even you can’t hide that salty sweaty scent in my presence.” I say. “No, it wasn’t any of my pack members. I can assure you that.” The man nods. “Well, we’ll keep looking into it. Maybe we missed something.” I nod. “Yea, you do that.” “Um... thank you for your hospitality, Alpha.” He says as he turns around and leaves like a dog with his tail between his legs. Once he leaves, I think about it for a moment. For all the s**t I just talked, I don’t trust my pack for s**t. “Max, call a meeting.” I say and Max quickly does. (These fuckers better not be stepping out of line.) I get up and start walking to go outside but then Yvette steps in front of me. She rubs her small belly. “What?” I say lowly. She swallows her spit and looks at me nervously. “I just came from the doctor and the doctor says everything is going perfectly.” I stop her. “Alright. But you know I won’t acknowledge this kid is mine until it’s born.” “But-” I cut her off. “You are being taken care of even now, you have everything you need. I am making sure of that. So far this is the only appointment I’ve missed and right now I am busy so don’t bother me.” I start walking and go past her. I know that kid is not mine. That girl has slept with half of the pack and I only slept with her once and that’s because I was drunk and super horny. And of course, that’s when she ends up pregnant. I have a thing for using rubber-like it’s my religion, so I know I used it. I’m sure that kid is going to end up looking like Ronald, with red hair and even a beard to go with it. Ronald is one of our best warriors and everyone has seen him sniffing around her like a fly attracted to s**t. A bad metaphor to use because I don’t consider Yvette to be s**t. She’s actually a nice girl. But I am not a gullible man and that girl is not Luna material. Even if it was my child, I would never make her my Luna. I make it outside and head to a small wooden stage in the back of the packhouse. Almost everyone is there already and those that aren’t, scurry to the crowd like their life depends on it. I close my eyes as I massage the bridge of my nose. When I open my eyes, I explode. “I swear to the f*****g goddess if anyone of you has stepped out of line, I will murder you myself!!” Everyone’s feet shift where they stand looking tensed and uncomfortable. “I have hunters breathing down my ass about murders in town made by rogues. And they are looking at us!” I look at the crowd. “Now I ask you, do any of you know of someone who has stepped out of line? If I find out that any of you is protecting anyone, you’ll go down with them.” (I am not known for my mercy, that’s for sure.) Everyone in the crowd shakes their heads saying no. I look directly at a few who are known to be trouble makers but they also vigorously shake their heads. “Know that this is going to be investigated. Now go!” I say and the crowd quickly dissipates. “Put Floyd on it.” I say to Max. “Insulting the goddess, good job there.” James says as I start walking off the stage. “The goddess hasn’t done s**t for me, now, has she?” I spit out. He rolls his eyes. I stop in my tracks when I hear the words that come out of someone's mouth. “A... Alpha I challenge you!” I look back to see Tom, a pack member with Alpha blood. “You challenge me and you know I will kill you.” I say warning him. He is shorter and built smaller than me. He nods. “If, you kill me.” He says. The guy looks scared but I am impressed that he is showing this kind of determination. Non the less, I will have to kill him. Leaving him alive is a sign of weakness on my part. I nod at the guy and start walking to the open field. As we walk, I decide to ask him. “Why do you want to challenge me? Why do you want the Alpha position?” He looks at me as we walk. “I don’t agree with the way you run this pack.” “Is that so?” I mumble. He nods. “You are out for vengeance and that is going to be our downfall.” (Smart kid. Thing is, I know this already.)
