Chapter two - New quiet place

Nate's POV:

My name is Nate Rogers and I am the most popular boy in my school. Sometimes I wish that I wasn't. This is why I am the school's football team captain as well. It's not that bad, but football is not my thing. I have two best friends named Tyler and Henry. From the whole school, they are the only people with who I feel comfortable sharing everything. The line of girls walking behind me is long, but I am still single. The reason is that I want to find my special girl. I don't know when and where will I do this, but I know that I will feel it when I see her. The girls in school walk after me only because I am popular. They don't want anything else from me. I want my girl to talk with me, to listen to me, and actually to look at me as a normal person. I am nothing more than the rest. All of this I call luck. I have never imagined that I will be popular or be the captain of the team. I have seen the boys from other schools. Most of them are mean just because of this reason. Well, I am not. I am thankful for all of this, but I won't let it change me. 

There is one month until the new school year. This is my last one and then I have to think about university. I still haven't decided what I want to do with my life. There is enough time for that. If I have to be honest, I would love it if my friends and I are together in the future, but I don't want to cut their wings. Even if we are not together, we can still keep in touch. They won't get rid of me that easy. If Mason is not with me, I am good. I don't hate him, but I just can't understand him. He is part of the team and to every girl who I look at, he is trying on her in front of me to make me mad. Well, he doesn't know that this is not working, because none of them is what I am looking for. I don't know how my girl looks, but I know that she will be pretty in her own way and doesn't need to show off. 

Today I will go out with my friends. First, we'll play some video games at home and then we'll go to our quiet place. It's just a diner with a nice atmosphere. I don't hate crowded places, but they are too loud. I don't want to scream so my friends can hear me. No thank you. This place always had an average amount of people, which was perfect for us. 

I heard a knock on the door and went to open it. My parents are at work so the house is for us. It's not like we'll do something f*******n. After all, I am a good boy or that's what I am trying to be. I don't understand what girls find in bad boys. They are normal people who don't like to follow the rules. 

- Hey, hey, hey. How is our captain?

- Henry, stop with this. 

- Why? You are the captain after all. 

- I don't feel like one. 

- Since you won't let me come in, I will do it by myself. - Tyler said

- What we'll do today?

- How about some video games. I have a new one in my room. 

- And that my friend is a great idea. 

All of us walked into my room and I gave the boys the controllers. They looked at me with smirks, which I didn't understand. Did I do something? 

- For what are the smirks?

- Only one month left. Won't you find your señorita? - Henry chuckled

- Why do I have to do it now? Moreover, the girls only walk after me, because I am popular or the way I look. 

- And what's wrong with that?

- I am a normal person and I would like it if she accepts me this way. 

- You, my friend, want the impossible. If I was you, I was going to be very happy to have so many girls walking after me. 

- But I am not. They are nice, but they don't want to know the real me. They only like what's outside. It's not wrong, but I don't like it. 

- Then why don't you search out of school. No one said that your girl must be from our school. - Tyler said

- You can try the new ones.

- With who?

- Every year new students come to our school. That includes girls. You can try one of them. They don't know you so you can be who you want. 

- I think that they quickly will understand who Nate is. Especially when they see him in the field. 

- Tyler is right. Even if I hide, she still will find out everything about me. I just want to be normal and people to accept me that way. Do I want too much?

- No, but these days, girls want someone who looks good. The ones who want someone for what's inside are not much. 

- There is still a chance that he will find his special girl. 

- Ok, enough talking. I want to kick your a**es. - I said and they laughed

The boys and I played a couple of games. I left them to play, while I am taking a shower. When I walked out, both of them looked at me. I swear that they are checking me out. Are they girls or what? I understand if a girl is checking you, but boys to do it makes it weird. 

- Why are you looking at me like that?

- Because you post only shirtless pictures. That way you won't find your special girl. - Tyler said

- What do you mean?

- If you want to find your girl, try to look normal in one picture, not showing off your workout. 

- This is what girls want. Who I am to deny their wishes?

- True, but if you want someone to like what's inside of you, find a way to show it. 

- Look, if I will look for a girl, I prefer to talk with her in person instead of online. 

- If both of you are done arguing, can we go out? - Henry asked

- Yes, let's go. 

All of us walked to our place. It's close to my house and how I said we like the atmosphere. We ordered our food and drinks and sat at our usual table. The waiter came and we paid him. This food is delicious. Well, I am hungry too. Soon more people came here. The place quickly got louder. I have never seen so many people here. What is going on here? Even at our football games, it's not that loud. It's not that bad, but for me, it's too much. 

- WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

- I DON'T KNOW, BUT I DON'T LIKE THE SCREAMING. - Tyler said

- BOYS, WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO? - Henry asked

- LET'S GET OUT OF HERE. I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE. 

- WHERE WE ARE GOING? - Tyler asked

- SOMEWHERE WHERE IS NOT THAT LOUD. 

- CAN WE GO ALREADY? - Henry asked

- YES. LET'S GO NOW. 

All of us walked out. I feel like I left without a voice. How did this place become so popular? I guess that we have to search for a new one. We walked to one park and sat at the benches. I really liked this place, but this is not what it was. Well, maybe we can find a better one. The question is where. I don't know many places in town. When I like a place, I always go there and the others don't exist. Not really, but you get the idea. 

- What we are going to do now? I don't want to go back there if it's going to be so loud. - Tyler said

- I don't know. I think that we have to find a new place. 

- Where? To find another place like our diner means that there shouldn't go people. - Henry said

- That's true. We can walk around the town and see if there is something for us. 

The boys agreed and we started walking. Most of the places where we passed by were full of people. They don't shout, but it's enough to make it louder. Do people really have to be out so often? We were walking for more than an hour and the only place that was closer to what we wanted was a coffee shop. I don't think that we'll ever find what we are looking for. The boys and I were walking when I saw a man closing a shop. I looked up and read the sign. Milkshake shop. Why the man will close it so early? I walked up to him and he smiled at me. 

- Why are you closing so early?

- Because I have some urgent things to do at home and my worker doesn't feel very well today. I have no other choice. 

Then an idea came to me. Can this be our place? If there were people here, he was never going to close it. Maybe this is our chance. 

- I'm sorry for the weird question, but how many people usually come here?

- Not much, why?

- Me and my friends over there used to go to one diner, but now it gets louder and we need to find a new quiet place. Can you help us? We only need a place to chill and talk. 

- If you want, you can come here, but from tomorrow. I have to go now. 

- Sure, no problem. We'll be glad to come here. 

- But I have to say that we serve only milkshakes here. There is no food. 

- It doesn't matter. If we want, we can buy some food and eat it here. Well, if there isn't a problem. 

- No, there is no problem. I will go now. See you, tomorrow boys. 

- Yeah, us you too. - I said and he left

I walked to the boys with a smile on my face. They looked at me confused. 

- Guess, who find us a new place to stay. 

- That there? - Henry asked disappointed

- Yes, why? Not many people come here. 

- It doesn't look that bad. - Tyler said

- The only issue is that the man only sells milkshakes. There is no food, but he said that if we want we could buy and eat it here. 

- We can try, but once. If I don't like the place, I won't come here again. - Henry said

- Ok, deal. Now, let's go home. Will you stay for dinner?

- Why not? I have nothing to do at home. 

All of us walked home. My parents were already there. When the dinner was done, we sat at the table. My parents were talking to each other, the same as the boys. I still think about the place and the man. I feel like this place will change us or at least me. It's weird, but this is how I feel it. I don't know will it happen for real. What's interesting is that not many people come here, but the man has a worker. It's not bad, but it doesn't make sense to me. 

- For what are you thinking so much?

- What?

- I asked for what are you thinking so much. - Henry said

- For our new place. It won't be like the old one. 

- True, but after all, we want it to be quiet. 

- Can I know what my boys are talking about? - mom asked chuckling

- The diner where we used to go is now full of people and it's too loud for us. That's why we walked out of there and decide to find a new place to hang out. 

- And I guess that you did it. 

- Yes. It's a milkshake shop, held by one man. He told me that he even has a worker no matter that not many people go there. 

- Well, I hope that this will become your new favorite place. 

- I'm not sure about that, but I hope for the best. 

We talked for a while. Later the boys walked home. I offered them to sleep at home, but both of them denied it. Maybe the next time, they will stay here. I played a couple of video games. I'm still on vacation so I can stay late. I might be popular, but I want to have good grades as well. When I got tired, I went under the covers and fall asleep. I hope that tomorrow will be a good day. I don't know why, but I am excited about the new place. Maybe this is what a need. A fresh start before the new school year.
