Chapter Three

1027 Words
We all head to the living room and each duo sat on a sofa and since I was the new person there, they thought it would be nice to know more about me. "So what do you do?" Max asks me while everyone turns their attention to me "I am a final year student at the university." "What do you study there?" Sarah asks me "Business management." I answer her. "Sounds nice, our son here also studied the same course and he currently works for our company." she says pointing to William. " Yeah and you can come to me when ever you have a problem with your studies." William tells me with a smile on his face, I look at him a little skeptical, so he is only rude when his parents aren't looking. "Well I think it's time for me to leave." James says standing up. "Thanks for the dinner, goodnight." "You are welcome anytime." "Once again, it was lovely meeting you." he smiles at me. "Goodnight James." They bid goodbye and William stands up and follows him out, the two head outside and we kept chatting with the family, I learnt that Emily was about my age but she studied fashion in Paris and came back just recently while her elder brother William was in charge of some parts of the family business and is 30. William came and said his goodnight and went straight to bed, he gave me a cynical smile and I'm glad he left because I didn't understand his mood changes. Williams' POV I follow my best friend James outside to his car. "I can see this girl is a little different than the others, for one she isn't throwing herself at you or trying too hard." he says as we reach his car. "That's because she doesn't know." "Yes I know that, but I still think she is different." "I don't think so, she is just good at acting, I'm sure her true self will reveal in a few." I say self assured, they are all the same. "Get Rory to run a background check on her, I can't wait to see what dirty secret Lillian is hiding." "I really like your ways my man." James smirks as he high fives me, we chat for a few before he enters his car and drives home. I walk back inside home to find they are all still chatting together. "Goodnight everyone, I'm headed to bed." "Goodnight William." as everyone said goodnight, I look at Lillian and give her a cynical smile before retreating to bed. It was just a year ago that my parents decided I should get married before they would handover the company to me, it was what I worked so hard for and now the only thing standing in the way was marriage, but I wasn't planning to get married, all the other women I have met in my life were all the same, they wanted nothing but the money or the good life and fame that comes with it and I wasn't planning to spend the rest of my life with someone like that. I thought hard and told my parents to to choose a wife for me themselves, they were very glad and soon, they started arranging dates with different kinds of women, rich, poor, famous etc, but all to my parents' surprise, only a week after the arrangement, the girl would willingly back out of it. My parents accused me of doing something to the girls but had nothing on me so they left me alone but that didn't stop them from introducing other girls. My parents promised me that this time it would be different and the girl would not know we were going to be arranged for a marriage and that I should try and woo her. Only my best friend and I knew what went on, as soon as my parents introduced me to a new girl, I get Rory to run a background check on them and the check always comes up with a dirty secret. I threaten to expose their secrets to the world and the girls leave willingly on their own in fear of their dirty secrets getting exposed. Now true to James words, this girl might have seemed a little different than the others but I'm sure they are all the same, and the background check I have going on will prove just that. I believe one day my parents will stop throwing girls at me and decide to just handover the company to me. ***** The next morning, I get up and get ready to go to work, as I cascaded down the stairs I could hear my mother talking and as I reached down the stairs, I saw her talking to Lillian. "Oh there he is." my mother said as soon as she saw me, Lillian who's back was to me turns around and seems unhappy. "Lillian wants to go to school and I said you could give her a ride." "No thanks really, I can just get a Taxi" Lillian objects and I wonder why. "Nonsense, why board a Taxi, I can drop you myself." "But don't you have work to do? I don't want you getting late on my behalf." "Don't worry that won't be a problem." Lillian seemed to fonder it before giving up and my mother gave me a proud smile. The three of us walk outside to my car and when we reached, I opened the door for Lillian, she gave me skeptical look before entering and I closed the door, my mother gave me a nod of approval before waving us goodbye and we drove out. Lillian's POV I enter the car and we drove away, we come to a junction and instead of him to turn left, he turned right "You took the wrong turn." "I know." "But why? you are supposed to take me to school, I will be getting late." I say checking the time on my phone "I know, I just have to get coffee." "But ... Wait! You are doing this on purpose" "Yes."
