Chapter One

Present Day March, 2021. Ridgeway Valley Pack "Ms. Silverstone, the car is here." I looked up to see Poppy, one of the omegas. "Thank you, Poppy." I said, smiling. She beamed at me, skipping away, her blond hair bouncing behind her. I walked out of the sitting room to the foyer, my footsteps echoing against the oakwood flooring. My duffel bag was on one of the numerous hooks built into the wall of the foyer. I grabbed it, adjusting the strap. "I hope you are not leaving without saying goodbye." My head snapped up to Peter, Alpha of the Ridgeway Valley, and my uncle. "Me?!!! I would never!" I laughed watching him make his way down the stairs to me. Uncle Peter was a tall man with piercing grey eyes, which matched his graying dark hair. "Be careful, and please stay out of trouble." He advised. I rolled my eyes, smiling at him. "Have a little faith in me, Uncle Pete; besides, I never get into any trouble." I replied innocently, and he snorted as I slung my duffel bag over my shoulder, making my way out of the house. "Have fun!!!" He called out. I got into the car to see Liam; his eyes were glued to his phone. So what excuse did you give Father? He asked through our mind link I told him I was going on a five-day backpacking trip. I replied as he started the car and drove us off. "Where are we heading?" I asked, confused, when it seemed like we were heading deeper into the city. "You don't expect to waltz into Jacob Mont Blanc's area looking like a younger version of Aunt Helena." He explained. I sighed; he was right. I was a miniature of my mother, except I had the distinct silvery-tinted black hair, which was a trademark of those who had the Silverstone blood running through their veins. "So what are we going to do?" I asked. "You'll see." He said it cryptically. I huffed, sitting back and watching as we drove past buildings until we came to an unassuming house. Liam parked in the driveway, and we got out. I looked around; it was a quaint area, perfect for anyone who wanted to start a family. We walked to the door, and he knocked. Three minutes later, I could see someone peering through the curtains. I raised an eyebrow at Liam, who just shrugged before bending and slipping a black card underneath the door. The door was unlocked immediately, and a tall, gangly-looking teenager with zits the size of London stood aside. "Welcome," he stuttered. Liam nodded and walked in. I followed him, eyeing the teenager, who looked like he was about to pass out. I wrinkled my nose at the amount of sweat he was secreting. He locked the door behind us and scurried past us, leading us to a room that had about five computers with three guys and two girls working behind them. "What can we help you with?" He asked. "We want fake passports and IDs." Liam said, leaning against the wall. "That usually takes a day or two." He replied. "We don't have a day or two. We need them now." I cut in, glaring at him. He squeaked before turning to Liam. "It'll cost you." "Money's not a problem," Liam drawled. The boy nodded before turning to one of the girls. "Liz, can you get her ready?" Liz looked up from the computer; she was your classic e-girl. Eyeliner, choker, a kitty headphone, fishnet stockings, the whole ensemble "Sure." She said she was getting up and approaching me, chewing loudly on her chewing gum, aggravating my sensitive hearing. "This way." I followed her to the next room; she gestured to a chair, and I sat. The room looked like a cosplay convention had exploded in it. "Blonde or brunette?" She asked, and I looked over at her, confused, when I noticed she was holding two wigs. "Blonde." I said, and she walked over and placed a wig cap on my head to secure my hair before fixing the wig on. When she was sure it was secured, she grabbed a pair of brown contact lenses to cover my blue eyes. They were a pain to put on, but I finally got them on. "And some glasses." She said, handing a pair of heavy-framed glasses. "They are not medicated, but people would think they are. I mean, no one would be caught wearing frames like this unless they were forced to by a doctor." She explained. Once we were done, we walked back to the other room where Liam was having his photos taken. He looked totally different with red hair and fake yet very believable facial hair. He grinned when he saw me. The girl led me to the other photo station, and I had mine taken. "You look like a school teacher." Liam teased me, ruffling my hair. I slapped his hand away as we waited for the passports and IDs. Everything was done in less than an hour; money really did talk. "Here you go." The boy from earlier said he was handing Liam everything. Liam passed them to me, and I looked them over. It was impressive; no one would think I was Adelaide Silverstone; I was just an ordinary Emma Thomas, while Liam was Jarred Hayes. He paid them, and we left, driving to the airport. The trip there was a quiet one. I was lost in my thoughts; this was something that had been planned for years. Nine years and finally! I was going to get my revenge. We got to the airport, Liam found a spot in the parking area, and we got out. He helped me with my duffel. We already had our tickets ready, and we had arrived just in time for the flight. "Do enjoy your flight," the air hostess purred at Liam as we walked into the plane. He scrunched his nose as if he smelled something putrid. I chuckled as I walked past her to my seat. "I honestly can't wait to find my mate; at least the attention from the female species will be reduced." He muttered. "Female wolf species," I corrected. "It doesn't apply to humans." He let out a curse, grumbling under his breath. "So how's the mate's finding going?" I asked. He sighed, rubbing his hand over his face. "I don't even know. At times, I feel like she doesn't want to be found. It's so frustrating." He explained that I could feel him becoming angry. Placing a hand on his fist, I squeezed gently. "You'll find her... when the time is right." I whispered. He nodded, shooting me an appreciative smile. The announcement for takeoff was made, and soon we were in the air. Jacob Montblanc, here I come. ******************* The 26-hour flight had Liam and I feeling very restless by the time the plane landed at West Yellowstone Airport. All we wanted to do was run around in our natural forms. Liam slipped on a pair of sunglasses while I unconsciously pushed my glasses up my nose as I went through immigration and customs. I could smell the werewolves all around, and it kept me on edge. This was Jacob's area, and the last thing I wanted was for him to be alerted to my presence. Fortunately, we passed through all the checks without drawing attention to ourselves. Liam hailed a taxi, and we got in. I had hired a nondescript cabin close to Mont Blanc territory. It was situated in a small human town. "What brings you two to old West Yellowstone?" The taxi driver asked. "We are actually heading to Yellowstone National Park for some peace and quiet." Liam replied, shooting me a smirk. I smirked back at him, knowing what we intended to do was far from peaceful. I let Liam chat with the taxi driver; it wasn't like he was going to remember anything by the time we left. Even with our disguises, I was not about to risk it. My mind drifted to the days after the Silverstone m******e. Those were the hardest—reliving the nightmares every night for months. I had lost everyone I loved in a single night, all because of a bloodthirsty monster. The council didn't bat an eye or summon him to answer for his crimes. Everyone was terrified of Jacob Mont Blanc. The dark and mad Alpha Prime No one knew why he attacked my pack or why he was encroaching on other territories belonging to fellow Alpha Primes. Some say he was searching for something, but all I knew was that anyone who dared to cross him met their end in the most gruesome and horrifying way imaginable. Most people at this point preferred to submit to him; it was much easier. But I was not just anybody, as far as he was concerned. I was dead, and I was going to use that to my advantage. I would make sure my face was the last he would see as he died. I could still feel the heavy shotgun with uniquely made silver bullets that was in my bag. Normally silver bullets do not hurt Alpha Primes, but this was specially designed; all I had to do was aim at the back of his head, and the bullet would do enough damage to allow me to rip his head off. Liam calling my name brought me out of my thoughts. I blinked, looking at him. "We're here." He announced. I nodded, leaning over to pay the taxi driver. You will forget this ever happened. I whispered into his ear. His eyes glazed over, his mouth flapping open. Liam got our bags out of the trunk, and I exited the car. The compulsion would kick in at any moment, and he flicked the latch open, pushing the gate open. We walked down the dirt road to the cabin. I love the fact that it was surrounded by trees, perfectly hidden from sight. The floorboards creaked as we walked up the stairs. The agent had said the key was under the flower pot. I lifted it and grabbed the key, unlocking the door. "Home, sweet home," Liam murmured, sarcasm coating every word he uttered. The cabin looked like it had not been lived in for years. At least the agent had cleaned the cobwebs and the majority of the dust. I wrinkled my nose when a rat scurried past us. "At least he stocked the fridge." Liam said this from the kitchen, which was adjacent to the living room. There was a hallway and three doors. Probably leading to two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. "I'm going for a run." I said I was pulling off my hoodie and jeans and standing in my underwear. As packmates, nudity wasn't something that was frowned upon. Liam had seen me in my underwear more often than not. "Have fun," he called, his head still stuck in the fridge. "Don't finish the food!" I called out, walking out of the house; the taxi driver was gone. I made my way into the forest, breathing in the smell of sap, moss, grass, and dew. Letting myself connect with the aura of the forest, I took off, running as fast as I could. Jumping over fallen branches and trees, feeling the wind in my hair. I could see a large stream in the distance. Increasing my speed, I leapt, transforming mid-air. My hind legs hit the ground with a thud, and I took off once again. There was something different about running in my lycan form. Everything felt sharper and more real. I could feel the connection with the forest and with the earth in every step and every minute movement. It was exhilarating. I soared into the air, sinking my claws into a tree, before climbing up till I reached the top, surveying the sight before me. Tall green trees as far as the eyes could see. It was beautiful. I was tempted to let it all out, to howl into the evening sky, but I knew I was close to the Mont Blanc area, judging from what looked like part of a roof peeking out of the trees. If I looked further, I could see the roofs of other buildings too, and what looked like smoke coming from the chimneys of some houses. Howling would do nothing but endanger my entire mission. The howl of an Alpha Prime was distinct and powerful. It would definitely attract unwanted attention. I leapt off the tree, free falling through the branches, crouching as I landed. My ears perked up, and my eyes darted to my left. The leaves shook slightly, and I tensed up, my nose flared, my lips pulled back, exposing razor-sharp fangs. I prepared myself for a fight. To my surprise, a rabbit hopped out. Relaxing, I suddenly felt peckish, darting after the rabbit; it had no chance. Digging my claws into it, I tore it apart, digging into the fur and separating it from the meat. I was done in a matter of minutes. Lapping up the blood from my snout and claws, I made my way back to the cabin. I morphed back as I approached the cabin stairs. Liam had kept my hoodie on the railing. I shrugged it off and walked into the house. "Well, you certainly have a good run." Liam drawled, his brow raised at the dried blood on my fingers and mouth. I ignored him, going into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. "I saw a rabbit, and I got hungry." I replied. He nodded, turning his attention back to his phone. I had a quick shower before joining him in the living room, and we sat in silence. I could feel the tension. We still had not discussed our reason for coming here. We already had carefully laid-out plans; all we had to do was enact them, but I had no idea what was stopping me. "Tomorrow... let's just have some normalcy tonight." Liam whispered, and I realised I had been channelling my emotions to him. "Okay," I whispered. "Goodnight." "Goodnight Adelaide."
