Chapter two

1108 Words
The strange man holds onto me whilst I unlock my front door with shaky hands. I feel my heart beat rising with anxiety as my keys shake in the lock along with my hand. I walked him over to our wooden kitchen table, I pulled out one of the chairs, he took a seat still holding onto his stomach. The second that he took his hand off my shoulder was the second I felt like I could breathe again. "What's your name?" I asked as he looked up at me clearly in pain. "Ash." He mumbles as I nod. "Ash, Umm, I Ugh, I'll have to take the bullet out." I whispered with a trembling voice. "Well, you could try to sound a little more confident," he says as I look nervously at him and he lets out a loose but pained chuckle. "Sorry, it's my first time stitching and taking a bullet out and doing anything like a nurse really, I'm going to need a second, I have to look this up!" I said, pulling my phone out of my back pocket. He pulls the phone out of my hand and puts it in his back-pocket. "Hey, How am I going to know what to do now?" I asked, looking at him, panicked. "It will fix itself!" He says, then stops. I looked at him perplexed. '"You know natural selection, it's just nature shit." He says as I raise my eyebrow but nod a second later. "I get it, I think?" I said, kind of confused, still shook up from this strange encounter. "Good, " he mumbles as I look around the room. "Would you wait here while I run to the supply closet upstairs to get the sewing kit and first aid box." I ask as he nods. "Okay." I mumbled. Going to run, as I trip over my foot and fell onto the steps, my cheeks heat red, but I quickly recover from that mortifying fall and run upstairs, as soon as I make it out of his eye-line I start to breathe in and out fast. I made my way to the closet with the supplies in. I get the stuff I need and run downstairs. To my surprise, he's still sitting there. "I thought you'd run" I announced honestly as he chuckled lowly. "I don't think I'm in shape to run, darling." He says as I nod and my cheeks heat. Darling, s**t Lux not the time. I can see his perfectly toned stomach with abs rock hard against his bloodstained shirt as I held my breath. LUX NOT THE TIME. This has to be some kind of weird realistic dream. I ran over to the kitchen and turned on the stove. I shove the needle under the flame for a second. I then turned off the stove and walked into the front room again. "I had to sterilize the needle. I didn't want your stomach going green." I announced as he smiled weakly. "Would you lie down on the floor. I know it's not the best, but it's all I can offer," I say as he nods and, without hesitation, gets out of the chair and sits down on the floor. He lays down stiffly. I got a pair of tweezers out of the sewing kit. "Could I unbutton your shirt?" I asked nervously as I felt like I was going to vomit. "Yes." He replies simply. My hands are shaky and clammy as I blow them to cool off the heat, my fingers are unsteady and I feel like throwing up, but I have to stay strong. "Okay, I'm going to remove the bullet now." I mumble as he groans in pain. I take that as a signal to hurry the hell up and stop delaying his agony. I looked closely and saw the bloody bullet. "Oh, I think I'm gonna puke." I murmured as I held my lips together trying to stop the vomit from coming up. I stick the tweezers into the flesh wound, trying to grip the little critter as he lets out a blood-curdling cry. "Got it!" I said, shoving my free hand in the air like bender did at the end of the breakfast club. "Why were you shot?" I asked, feeling confused as he looked at me intensely. " I just ran into some bad people, " he says as I shut my mouth and started to attempt to stitch him. I've learned from previous experiences that its best to keep your mouth shut and to not pry, because it can get you in trouble for some reason. Trouble always seems to find me even when I'm not looking. "I'm nearly done," I say as he groans. For a muscular man, he is a huge wuss! "Okay, nearly done!" I said, pouring antiseptic alcohol on his stitches. "All done." I said, putting a safety wrap over the stitch. "Thank you?" He says, looking at me, waiting for me to reveal my name. " Lux" I said as I took his hand, helping him up. "Well, thank you, Lux, you saved me." He says and I nod. I heard the sound of keys jingling in the lock of the front door. Ash must have listened to Because he turned his head like a dog in the direction of the door. "You should go, that's my dad." I said quickly, as he nodded. "Thank you again." He mumbles as he takes my hand and gives it a quick swipe much like a credit card but somewhat of a much more meaning full gesture. He lets go of my hand and in a flash he's out the back door. "Lux, what are you doing up so late?" dad says as I smile at him. "Sorry I was going over what filters to use for Yasmin's headshots." I said, as I pulled my camera out of my bag. "Did you read the letter yet?" Dad asks as I shake my head. "Nope, it can stay sitting on the counter till the day I die for all I care!" I mumbled, hoping he didn't hear most of it. "You know, I would never pressure you to talk to him or visit him, but Lux, he's filling up the Mailbox." Dad says, I feel my heart sink. "Then I will write back and tell him to stop sending the stupid letters," I said. "Okay Lux, as long as you're sure you don't want to, visit him." He says as I nod. " I am sure, I don't want too!" I said quickly as I walked up the stairs to my room.
