Chapter 2

880 Words
“Your wolf?” Casey asked, still not sure that she had heard him correctly.                 “Yes, my Wolf,” said Shane, as he parked the car in front of the building. When he had put the car in park, he turned so that could fully gauge her reaction.                      “So, you’re telling me that you are a werewolf? That I am a wolf, too?” Casey asked as she looked around at the building and the few cars that were parked around them. Her heart skipped a beat when her eyes fell on her parents’ car just two spots over from them. “What are my parents doing here?”                 “My father probably called them and told them what happened. Lane called him as we were leaving the school. And yes, I think you may be a wolf as well. I think that your wolf surfaced to protect you from being hurt by those boys. That is the wolf spirits’ job, to protect its vessel. And most wolves have a mental link to other wolves. That’s how I was able to hear your distress. But like I said, my father can explain everything a lot better than I can. My wolf just surfaced a little over a year ago and I am still learning about him,” Shane finished as he waved at the man who was approaching the car from the office building.                 Shane opened his door and stepped out of the car after taking off his seat belt. “Hey, dad,” Shane said as he closed the door.                 What in the world was Shane talking about? Her wolf? He had to be crazy. She wasn’t a werewolf. And what did they have to go and call her parents for? She didn’t hurt those boys, did she? She thought as she unfastened her seatbelt.                 Shane turned to face her from where he was standing in front of the car and motioned for her to get out. She reached for the door handle but hesitated as she thought, But what if he was telling the truth?                 I am, came a thought that clearly wasn’t her own, catching her completely off guard. She looked up to see Shane and his father watching her very intently through the windshield. Now please get out of the car and talk with my father. Just talk to him. Then you can decide what to believe. Deal?                 Before Casey could really grasp the fact that she was hearing Shane’s voice in her head, she found herself nodding her head in agreement and stepping out of the car.                 How can I hear your voice in my head? Asked Casey. Is that another wolf thing?                 Shane only nodded in response as she joined them in front of the car.                 “You can already communicate with her on the link?” asked his father, shocked.                 “I guess so, I was really only testing it. I didn’t think it would work. Her defenses have been up since the incident with the boys at school,” Shane answered as his father motioned towards the door of the building. They all headed in that direction. “And she doesn’t seem to really remember what happened with the boys. She said that it was all kind of hazy.”                 “That’s to be expected the first time the wolf surfaces. It has to overpower the mind in order to get control of the body,” his father said, holding the door for them to enter the lobby.                 She was instantly wrapped in a hug by her parents.                 “Oh my gosh. Darren, our little girl is one of us. Isn’t this exciting?!” her mother almost shrieked with excitement. Her father, Darren, who was beaming from ear to ear, just nodded his agreement. His eyes were shiny like he was trying to hold back tears.                 “Wait. What are you talking about, Mom. One of you? I am your daughter, how could I not be one of you? What in the world is going on?” Casey asked, turning to face Shane.                 Calm down, Casey. I can feel your wolf rising again with your anger. Just take a deep breath. Shane sent, along with some calming vibes.                              They knew this would happen and they didn’t tell me or prepare me for it?! Why? Casey asked as she tried to do as Shane had asked her.                 I think that would be better answered by your mom and dad. Just hear everyone out on this. And if you want me to, I can stay linked with you like this and try to help you understand anything that troubles you a little better.                 Yes please, Casey almost pleaded                 Then I will. But please let them help you too. I can tell that you feel betrayed but I am sure that there is a perfectly good explanation for why they didn’t prepare you for this.                 I hope so Casey thought as she followed her parent’s and Shane’s father down the hallway that led off to the left of the lobby.                 I hope so.
